First Look: Green Day, ‘21st Century Breakdown’
Yesterday we learned that Green Day have announced the name of their new album, 21st Century Breakdown, and today they reveal the official artwork for the disc … check it out:

Green Day have revealed the cover art for the new album today (February 10), just a day after they named the record. The stenciled artwork, pictured, was apparently inspired by artist Sixten, with art direction credited to Chris Bilheimer.
No other information about artwork is provided … but you can click HERE to see examples of Sixten’s work at his official website to compare this album art with the apparent source of inspiration. I am not at all familiar with Sixten’s work but there is a simplicity in his pieces that looks very much like something Green Day would be interested in co-opting. It’s been about 5 years since Green Day released their last album, American Idiot. They were able to use dissatisfaction with the GWB administration to win all sorts of awards and accolades (they had a really great year at the Grammy Awards, I seem to recall). I’m curious to hear what their new stuff sounds like. I’m also curious to know if anyone still cares about them. Will their brand of mature power-punk-pop still resonate today? I’m not too sure.

Green Day has been a favorite of mine since middle school. Dookie will always be one of my favorite albums ever. I, for one, definitely think they are still relevant and cannot wait for their next album!!

I really liked “American Idiot”, and have been a fan since “Kerplunk”. I just hope this new album doesn’t jump the shark (see Weezer’s last two albums).

It looks very Bansky – the two kissing.

Also, my local radio said this morning they might tour with reunited Blink-182

I still care! I’ve been patiently waiting all these years for their next album. I’m excited!

Um, YES. People still care about them. Most music fans don’t just stop caring about artists they’re into because they’ve been out of the spotlight for a while. Whether the Grammy-running Recording Academy still cares…I don’t know. And it doesn’t matter. I’m pretty sure they just nominated the Jonas Brothers for an award. I can’t wait to see Green Day live again; they put on a fantastic show.

I care a great deal more about Green Day than I ever will about Britney.
Green Day = talent
Britney = smoke and mirrors.

I’ve had a huge crush on Billie Joe Armstrong since high school! I love that each album is completely different.

:O Repo! The Genetic Opera rip off! Same font, same colors, same effects, and there’s a song called 21 Century Cure in the movie

Not feeling it. One bit.
American Idiot, like i said in the last post, had it’s moments but it was one big whine-fest. What I did find interesting about it though, was it told a story “The Jesus of Suburbia” character. That was interesting.
But their early stuff is FAR better and they’re SO overplayed now that I actually can’t listen to any Green Day stuff because the sound of his voice makes me want to implode.
They were great for what they did, but I think they are past their prime.
And just so we’re clear I’m not anti-Green Day.

Might be a reference to the “Watchmen” comics. In the comics there is graffitti of a couple embracing, very similar to this.

Green Day will be my favorite band forever!

I am so excited about this album. I’ve been listening to Green Day since I’ve been consious to music. I didn’t know that there were different bands, and so I thought every song on the radio was by Green Day. It was funny. I went to the Sixten site and there is a painting of a couple kissing. So, I’m assuming that is the inspiration. I’m also an Armstrong, so, Armstrong family pride!
@Melissa- While I did find the “Jesus” storyline interesting (And I still hope that their developing the movie about it), I found the whole effect of the album, from beggining to end, mind blowing. The operatic tones were so different from everything else that had been presented that year. It’s no wonder they racked up the Grammy’s. All artists have transformations. Madonna is not the same artist she used to be, but she’s possibly even more popular now. Kid Rock changes his style constantly, but he still has a great fanbase.
It’s just a fact of music.
Either way, Green Day will always have their fanbase, just as Madonna and Kid Rock. No matter how old they get, no matter what comes out of Billie’s mouth, Mike’s bass, and Tre’s drums. Always and forever.
It would be SICK if they toured with Blink 182. I still haven’t seen either live, so this would just be amazing!!!!!

@Heather_ Lea – first I just want to thank you for not jumping down my throat hahahaha! I do agree with you on some aspects, for what it was it was interesting… and i know bands transition and although they will all have their fanbase, some choose to stay with it, others (like myself) just don’t get the appeal anymore. I must admit I thought I liked it at first, but I think after the millionth time of hearing Boulevard of Broken Dreams I wanted to kill my radio hahaha!
I will say that if they do make a movie about it, I’d watch it. I just am not excited about this new album because in my personal opinion American Idiot was a let down for me. I sincerely hope though Green Day comes back to slap me in a face and prove me wrong and that this album is great.

Oh yeah, Green Day cemented its status as a staple in american rock with American Idiot. They will have much success with this album (unless they release like a BAD BAD single, which I’m sure they won’t. Can’t freaking wait for it!
This year will be amazing for music!: New Kelly Clarkson, new Green Day, new No Doubt (maybe not the album but possibly a single?) and Blink 182 are in the recording studio! Move over whiney-emo bands (I’m talking to you Metrostudio, All American Rejects, Nickelback, Daughtry) these guys will show you how its done!

I was 13 when Dookie came out. Green Day’s my favorite band since then. Just can’t wait!!!

People DEF still care!! Green Day will always be one of my favorite bands ever! I’m very excited for this new album to come out and even more excited for them to tour … I never miss a concert!
