David Beckham Unveils The Adidas ‘Predator Power Swerve DB’

Shoes!
February 24th, 2009

Soccer diva David Beckham was on hand for an in-store appearance at a promotional event in downtown Milan, Italy this week for the unveiling of a new Adidas soccer shoe named in his honor. Here are a few photos of Becks, wearing his temporary AC Milan uniform, at an Adidas Store in Milan to officially unveil the Adidas Predator Power Swerve DB soccer boot:

He sure does look smiley, no? While Becks maintains that he is still optimistic that the LA Galaxy will release him from his soccer contract with them so he can jump ship to play permanently with AC Milan, the news isn’t really going his way these days. AC Milan has run out of money and confesses that they will not raise their monetary offer to the Galaxy to buy out his contract and are starting to come to grips that they might not get to keep their new golden boy. The only way it could happen now is if Becks chips in some of his own money to buy out his contract … which he very well may still do. While I feel it’s kinda shitty for him to bail on his soccer team to run off to Milan, I’d be cool with it if the Galaxy were paid back the money they’d lose by losing Becks. Ahhh … so much soccer drama. Hopefully Becks will be able to sell enough of these new fancy shoes to buy out his contract … otherwise, he’ll have be dragged back to SoCal kicking and screaming.

    Trent,

Can you please do us all a favour and not comment on the business of football whilst pretending that you know the first thing about the intricacies and complications of the transfer market? To anyone informed on the subject, which i am, you sound unbelievably childish and ignorant.
AC Milan have not run out of money, they are simply refusing to pay any more than the 6.75m pounds they have initially offered the Galaxy. Beckham is now 33 and its no secret that he is fast approaching the end of his playing career, and just under 7m pounds is a price that is almost unheard of for players his age, even for those with vastly superior technical ability. AC are simply offering what is right from their business standpoint.
As for the Galaxy, you say that you would ‘be cool’ if they were paid back the money they would lose by losing Beckham, quite simply that isn’t going to happen if he moves. If he leaves then Galaxy will just have to take a monumental loss, it is a risk that I’m sure Alexei Lalas and Don Garber at MLS were aware of when Beckham first made the move stateside and it is all part and parcel of the business of football. Get over it.
So if you want to keep commenting about your seemingly unending infatuation with David Beckham then more power to you. But please, please do not act like you know what you’re talking about when it comes to football. Quite frankly it’s a little bit insulting to those with ACTUAL knowledge of the sport. Leave the sporting opinions to the sports journalists, they’re much better at that than you are I’m afraid.
