‘Creado Y Regado De Los Angeles’
Last night, I was very fortunate to be among the lucky few to be allowed entry into The Echoplex here in LA to attend the notso secret Jane’s Addiction show that was quietly announced a few days ago. A new friend messaged me on Saturday night (while David and I were enjoying our Valentine’s Day dinner) and asked if I was interested in seeing Jane’s play a show on Monday night … so, of course, I immediately said YES!!! I was allowed to bring 3 people so I asked my dear friend and musician Ollie from The OohLas if she would like to come with. In the end, David opted out and Ollie brought her friend Caleb and we met up at the Echoplex to watch Perry Farrell and the boys play and pretend it was 1990 all over again. Here are a few photos from last night’s show:

I am very happy to report that the guys are in fine form … they sounded great. Dave Navarro killed it on guitar, tho (as Caleb noted) he seemed to be holding back a bit. I suspect this small club show (coupled with the one the band played at the minuscule El Cid venue last November) is more a warm-up thing rather than an indication of what’s to come. Now that we know that Jane’s Addiction will be touring with Nine Inch Nails later on this year, I’m sure the guys will TEAR IT UP once the full-blown tour gets underway. Perry Farrell, gods bless his soul, hasn’t lost a thing … he looks great, he sounds great … he is the same wiry little minxy-minstrel that he has ever been. If I have one complaint, it would be that the show was WAY too short. The band went on at 11pm and were finished at just after midnight. Trust me, I am not complaining at all … but the band has such an amazing catalog of songs that I think many in the crowd (me included) were left wanting more (they didn’t even play Jane Says). Truth be told, tho, tt was pretty damn thrilling to see the band in action again. It’s been, seriously, a million years since I saw the band together on stage (I think Perry had dreadlocks back then) and, no lie, I was immediately zapped back in time as the first notes rang from the speakers last night. I really wish all y’all could be there. It was kinda magic.
After the jump, check out a video I shot of the band performing Mountain Song so that y’all can kinda experience some of last night’s magic, too …
I know the vid is dark but I think you get the gist. Much love and thanks goes out to my friend for hooking us up with tickets … we had a blast. You better BELIEVE I will be there to watch Jane’s Addiction open for Nine Inch Nails when the tour starts up here in the US.
Plans for today … David and I are gonna celebrate our 3 year anniversary, you know, no biggie ;)

Now that is a surprise indeed. No wonder a 10 minute song wasn’t on the playlist then!

Ugh I love Janes, they’re my absolute favourite band, I adore them. I saw them a few years back here in sunny Scotland and they didn’t play Jane Says then either. Here’s to another tour! Glad they were good :D

I was there as well and what a night! Navarro hung out after in the smoking section and was very cool to all. I got a ton of pix and video. So great. Highlight of my year so far… until I see the NIN/JA tour.
