Angelina Jolie Makes A Goodwill Pit-stop In Thailand
Stops over to visit refugees on her way home from Japan

Saint Angelina Jolie made a short visit to Northern Thailand this week on her way home from Japan. In her role as UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, Ange spent some time with Karenni refugee children in the Ban Mai Nai Soi camp in Thailand yesterday. Here is a cute pic of Angelina with some of the refugee children and a report on her visit:

Angelina Jolie is lending her voice in the fight to give more freedom to thousands of Burmese refugees that have been locked inside camps for up to 20 years in Thailand. After Jolie’s visit to Thailand’s Ban Mai Nai Soi refugee center Wednesday, the Oscar nominee and goodwill ambassador for the U.N. Refugee Agency asked the Thailand government to give approximately 110,000 refugees in the northern part of the country freedom to move around and seek higher education. “I was saddened to meet a 21-year-old woman who was born in a refugee camp, who has never even been out of the camp and is now raising her own child in a camp,” Jolie, 33, said in a statement released Thursday. Jolie’s request comes at a time where there has been an increase of migrants from Myanmar, also known as Burma. Thousands have fled Myanmar, as the country’s military junta is accused of flagrant crimes against ethnic minorities. During Jolie’s visit, she met orphans at a boarding school and teenage girls who worried about a return to Myanmar. “I hope we can work with the Thai authorities to speed up the government admissions process and that you will not be forced to go back to Burma if danger remains,” Jolie said.

I am always just so amazed at how much time Angelina Jolie devotes to charitable causes like this. Her commitment to helping end suffering wherever in the world she finds it is absolutely commendable. I may love to give her grief for her acting prowess (or lack thereof) but I absolutely love and respect all the hard work she does for her various charities. I was absolutely unaware of the plight of the refugees in Thailand … and altho I’m far from educated on their plight, I think it’s important for high profile people like Angelina Jolie to bring whatever awareness they can to these sorts of issues. All this charitable work that she does comes from her personal desire to offer aid whenever she can … no one is forcing her to do any of this. This sort of behavior should be commended. It would be amazing if more high profile people lent their fame and prominence to help others in need … imagine what the world would be like then.

I wish she’d make a Goodwill Pitstop at a McDonalds and eat something!

  2. lyndyloo says:

shopping for a new baby, or just getting some good publicity for the oscars?

  3. Katie says:

    Team Jolie.

  4. Rawad says:

I really love the way her life evolved (and still is), good to better, and better. J’adore Angelina. Ange b7bbik. :)

  5. lyndyloo says:

Team Jolie my ass, she’s a fucking freak.
she should stay at home and look after her 6 children instead of flying around the world on her “look at me I’m a saint” tour.
if you chose to have that many kids, they deserve to be looked after by their mother not a bunch of nannies.
    she is a hypocrite.

  6. nicole says:

@ lyn – your first post made me laugh.. im thinking new kid lol

  7. lyndyloo says:

@nicole, I can’t believe how many people are taken in by this woman , just ask the cambodian charity which is still waiting for its money from the Jolie-pitts to show up.

  8. Pam says:

    team jolie all the way.
Her kids have her attention lyn, it would be a bit selfish to say, I have kids of my own to take care of so I’m not gonna spend time trying to help others, a bit ridic for me. She is a goodwill ambassador for something, she likes it and feels good about what she is doing, I think it is great.

  9. lyndyloo says:

@pam, that’s what she’d like you to think.
where’s the money she promised the cambodian charity?
where’s the year off she promised to take?
she is the biggest hypocrite in Hollywood, she has turned Brad into a joke, nobody takes them seriously, they are too overexposed to be belivable in a parts. Why do you think they haven’t won a single award they were nominated for? because a real actor is someone who doesn’t overexpose themselves, look at sean Penn, look at Leo and Kate, these people don’t flaunt their lives and don’t sell their babies pics to the highest bidder because they know to keep their private lives private.
Angelina Jolie has allways been a show off, she can’t help it, as for Brad, he isn’t too bright.

I don’t think it’s selfish to look after her kids. She has six, and they’re all really freaking young. She spends a ridiculous amount of time away from them. I’m not saying her efforts aren’t commendable or shouldn’t occur, but she seems a little ADD on her responsibilities as a mother, and kids need those. It would be nice if other celebrities with fewer commitments… and babies could be as giving and selfless as she is. But her selflessness translates a bit into neglectfulness in the mom arena. Sorry, but when you have six kids, your causes need to take a bit of a hit. You can’t raise the world if you can’t raise your children.

  11. canuck says:

Gawd Trent, could you fawn over Jolie any more??? She does good things, yes, but your comments were gaggingly over the top.

  12. Avi says:

Thank you Lyndy..i am so sick of her.

  13. me says:

You guys are crazy. You’d rather she spend tons of money on what, a new pool or designer clothes? Trent is right, the world would be a better place if more rich/famous people used their influence for good causes. Give me a fucking break. (And I”m not “team jolie” or “team aniston”, I just appreciate people trying to improve the world.)

  14. Pam says:

people look what u are saying!
I am a single mom who works all day long and gets to see her son 3 hours a day. I would give my right arm to have the comfort that she has and the chance to work 3 months a year and take the rest off to be with my son. Year off? I would be happy with just a couple of months off.
And penn gained the respect of the paps by being agressive and you know it, paps learnt to leave him alone cos he wasnt taking any of it. Do u expect angelina to start kicking some pap ass so they can stop taking pics of her walking with her family? Or expect them to live underground? let them be.

  15. Criss says:

To those who are hating on her. What are you doing to help others in need?

  16. Katie says:

Imagine what kind of a world it would be if us non-celebrities actually participated in ending suffering once it was brought to our attention.

  17. Cupcake says:

I like what Katie said :)

  18. chris says:

    Awesome. Thanks T.
People…y’all are fucking weird. And bitter. And weirdly bitter, yo.

  19. Thai says:

Oh Please TRent! Why doesn’t Angelina try to talk to the Myanmar Junta Government instead? Cos it’s the root of the problem why these refugees are all over Thailand! You know what we host them a camp and they escape and hold hostage of innocent people? They did it before… it’s mess!!! Going there for a trip wont help.. Angie.. Take all refugees with you cos I know you can afford it.. I know that you are not only good at husband stealing!! Stop your Stupid PR on the expense of the others..it’s annoying!!!

  20. Michelle says:

I second that Chris. I’m sure they would have something negative to say about anything. Why complain about someone who is trying to make things better for others? What if her motives are for publicity? If so, so what?!!!! I think she just has a big heart and is genuine. Get over it haters!
