Jason Mraz Marches To ‘Free The Weed’

Herbal Essence
Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Jason Mraz, who has been known to dabble in the ways of Mary Jane, has posted a whole slew of new photos in honor of his friend Toca Rivera’s 53rd birthday showing the pals celebrating his bday by participating in a march for the legalization of marijuana … which is what any good friend would do ;) Here are a few of Jason’s personal photos from their march to “Free the Weed” and the full text of his latest blogpost explaining what is going on in the photos:

Free The Weed

On February 22nd, my friend Toca Rivera turned 53. For the last ten years of knowing the man, i have always marveled at his youth and his ability to be so mobile and free. In addition to singing along with his beautiful voice, I’ve had the pleasure of laughing with him on millions of occasions, while loving the lie he tells about his age. This year, we say he’s 35. After a most delicious and nutritious macrobiotic lunch in Harajuku, Tokyo, Toca was swept away by perhaps the most perfect parade for his character. If anyone’s birthday wish ever came true so quickly after blowing out his candles, it would be Toca’s. Here’s a look at the rally we quickly became a part of. Enjoy the walk thru Tokyo town. For more on the benefits of the legalization of Marijuana, Click HERE.

Happy Birthday Brother.

LOVE IT! And what a great birthday for Jason’s friend Toca. Actually, the randomness of a parade like this coming by right when you wish for it is very reminiscent of the No on Prop 8 protests that were sweeping LA in the weeks following Election Day last November. I was out with friends one Saturday night and we were talking about how upset we were that Prop 8 passed in California and then a protest march came parading down the street! We ran out of the bar we were in and joined the protesters for a little bit. This scenario sounds just like that one. I don’t know Toca Rivera at all but I am glad to know that he had a great birthday with his friend Jason Mraz. Kudos to Jason for so openly advocating a cause he believes in. I have many friends who also champion the same cause. Woot!

‘Twilight’s Kristen Stewart Does ‘Nylon’ Magazine

Isn't really a fan of "bullshit" questions from 'Twilight' fans
Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Twilight Saga star Kristen Stewart, who plays the living-breathing incarnation of protagonist Bella Swan, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Nylon magazine. In her coverstory interview, Kristen talks about topics as varied as how uncomfortable she is on talk shows to her love life (yes, this interview has range). Additionally, Kristen Stewart goes on the record about all those rabid Twilight fans out there who like to ask her, in her own words, “bullshit” questions that don’t really mean anything to her. Way to bite the hand that feeds you, girl. Here is Kirsten’s Nylon magazine coverphoto and some portions from her coverstory interview:

Though she’d caught our eye with her piercing turn with Emile Hirsch in Into the Wild last year, it was her Twilight role as Bella Swann, the mortal love of a “vegetarian” vampire named Edward Cullen (a phrase now synonymous in America with “hot, unattainable soul mate”) that showed she was ready for her NYLON cover turn. Apparently, Superbad director Greg Mottola agrees – he’s cast Kristen opposite Jesse Eisenberg in his new flick Adventureland.

Here’s what Kristen told us about her new life as a bonafide, tabloid-chased celebrity. Read the new issue of NYLON for even more about the world of a Hollywood veteran, but a very new movie star.

On the Twilight Madness: “Anywhere we’d go for Twilight was a psychotic situation. The sound was deafening, and it’s thoughtless, as well… You get a slew of all these bullshit questions like, ‘What’s it like to kiss a vampire?’ and ‘How much do you love Robert?’ Then you’ll get one that’s actually real, but you’re like, ‘No, I can’t right now, I can’t even consider [it].”

On her memorable David Letterman appearance: “I feel like I have nothing to say on those shows… I’m not good at the funny thing—most people are really great on those shows. I don’t have a contrived personality that [I can] just pump out [for] a five-minute segment, so I end up sitting there and looking kind of baffled. Embarassing.”

And no, she’s not dating Robert Pattinson: “It’s just totally false… Rob and I are good friends. We went through a lot together, so we feel very close. But if we go out in public, every little detail is scrutinized, like the way I stand next to him. And it’s like, I know this guy really fucking well [laughs]. It’s only natural that we’re sort of leaning on each other, because we’re put in the most fucking psychotic situations.”

On who she’s actually dating: “He’s older than me—he’s 20 now—but when you’re 13 and he’s turning 16, it was always sort of an out-of-reach thing. Then you get a little older, and you realize, ‘Oh, What the fuck am I thinking? I can have you, like, lickity…’” she snaps her fingers, laughing. “He’s awesome.”

LOL. You gotta love that the girl tells it like she sees it. To be honest, I am actually impressed that Kirsten Stewart just cannot dumb herself down to pander to the insipid questions that get thrown at her by rabid fans. I think it is a much better thing for young girls who want to relish in the fantasy to get a little dose of intelligent reality from the actress they so dearly look up to. I really hope Kristen Stewart never changes, she seems like a very smart girl … and we deffo need more smart girls in Hollywood. After the jump, check out a few photos from Kristen’s Nylon magazine photospread …

Melanie Chisholm Gives Birth To Her First Child

Sporty Spice spawns
Monday, February 23rd, 2009

At last! The final Spice Girl has finally crossed over into the realm of motherhood! Melanie Chisholm, aka Mel C., aka Sporty Spice has announced on her official website that she gave birth to her first child, a daughter, yesterday afternoon. The new baby Spice has been named Scarlet Starr. Here is the full text of Scarlet’s birth announcement published on her mother’s official website:

A New Arrival
23 Feb 09

Melanie C gave birth to a beautiful little girl at 4.10 pm on Sunday 22nd February. The baby weighed 8lb 3oz. Both mum and baby, named Scarlet Starr, are doing fine.

Finally! Now Sporty cannot be excluded from all those fun Spice mom events that the other Spices like to engage in … er, in order to try and exclude Sporty Spice. You just know that the Spice Moms were “too bizzy” with their children to hang out with the childless Mel C. when they were on their reunion tour last year and I’d bet good money that that had something to do with Melanie’s decision to get knocked up. She was the only Spice without a baby … and now she’s one of the gang again. HMMM. I bet Vicki B. will still find a reason to NOT invite Melanie or Scarlet Starr to any of her mom-related things. Ah well. Congrats, anyways, to Mel C. on the birth of her firstborn child!!

Matthew McConaughey Gets Half-Nekkid In Brazil

It's about effing time!!!
Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Halle-freakin’-lujah!! Matthew McConaughey has FINALLY gotten back into the habit of taking off his shirt in public … a practice that he used to be very fond of ON A DAILY BASIS back before he got all grown-up and father-like. Matthew and his babymama Camila Alves (and presumably their son Levi Alves) made their way to Brazil this weekend and almost immediately upon arrival, Matty stripped off to the waist and hit the beach to soak up the sun:

Now that’s a sight for sore eyes. I cannot believe that it has been so long since we’ve gotten to see the half-nekkid Matthew McConaughey that stole our hearts all those years ago. Sure, we got to see some shirtlessness last summer whenever Matthew went surfing but … he really has gotten all conservative since becoming a father. Pshaw. Whatevs. Who knows how long this half-nekkidness will last, I guess we should enjoy it while we can. After the jump, check out a few more photos of Matthew and his toplessness as he gets in a little work out on the beach — you’ll be happy to know that he is still very bendy …

Amy Winehouse Horses Around In St. Lucia

Hey, why not?
Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Amy Winehouse continues to enjoy her very extended vacay on Paradise Island in St. Lucia in the tropics of the Caribbean but has managed to relatively stay out of trubs. For the most part, she’s managed to remain totally clothed (unlike her previous incidents of nekkidness) and hasn’t been seen begging for alcohol for weeks now. Good on her! She has expanded her modes of entertainment, tho … apparently taking up horseback riding:

Lord, I love this hot mess of a trainwreck … even moreso as she sits astride a cute horsey. I understand that Amy is scheduled to perform at the Coachella music festival here in SoCal in the coming months but my guess is that she will stay right where she is until she absolutely has to leave. I don’t blame her … it looks as if she’s been having a ball and even at her worst down there, she’s been nowhere near as messy as she tends to be when she’s home in London. I still contend that Amy should stay in St. Lucia for a long time … if not the rest of her life. She’s been thriving down there — she’s been horseback riding, for Pete’s sake — mebbe it’s her best shot at a nice long, healthy life.

‘Vanity Fair’ Magazine Celebrates The Academy Awards

'Fair' play
Monday, February 23rd, 2009

After all the Oscar trophies were handed out at last night’s Academy Awards (actually, some folks didn’t even wait ’til all the awards were handed out … some showed up at the party before the Oscars were even finished), a who’s who of Hollywood A-Listers made their way to the Sunset Tower to party the night away at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party which was hosted by Graydon Carter. Folks this is THE party to go to if you are “anybody” in Hollywood. Here are a few pics from the red carpet arrivals last night:

I gotta say … I was very bummed to see that Madonna showed up at the VF party sans her much younger beau Jesus Luz. I was really hoping she and her boytoy would walk the red carpet together and set the gossips afire with her brazen brash & sassiness. Boo. On the plus side, tho, Jennifer Aniston was happy to cozy up to her beau John Mayer for the cameras … tho, the couple did not make a scene on the red carpet in full view of all of the cameras … they saved their canoodling for inside the shindig. While many folks make the rounds on Oscar night and hit up as many parties as they can, the folks who get an invite to the Vanity Fair party make sure to make an appearance and some end up staying all night long … it’s that good. I’m sure a great time was had by all … now that we’ve got the 81st Academy Awards in the can, I’m sure many folks were rearin’ to get to the celebratin’ (or the drownin’ ones sorrows in free booze … like Brangelina). See, there really ain’t no bizznazz like showbiz.

The 81st Annual Academy Awards Are Handed Out

Penélope, Heath, Kate, Sean & 'Slumdog' take home Oscars
Monday, February 23rd, 2009

The 81st Annual Academy Awards were given out at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, CA last night and pretty much everyone on Earth tuned in to watch the show … or, at least, they should have because last night’s Oscars were the most entertaining of any show in recent memory. A bunch of tweaks to the traditional format, coupled with an energetic and engaging (ie. HOT) host conspired to give us, IMHO, THE best Academy Awards ever. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals last night:

God bless Brangelina, they showed up to last night’s awards with the biggest smiles they could muster to try and show the world that they were honored “just to be nominated” because, judging by their collective track records during this year’s awards show season, they knew they were going home empty-handed … which is exactly what ended up happening by night’s end. Sarah Jessica Parker looked like a DREAM in that beautiful dress … it was a little Carrie Bradshaw but she pulled it off wonderfully. Generally, I was quite pleased with what I saw on the red carpet … Sophia Loren didn’t scare the hell out of me until she showed up on the Oscar stage to present her award. In HD, she was not treated too kindly.

For me, tho, the big star of the night was Hugh Jackman. He really turned in an amazing performance and totally made the show. His opening number (and subsequent numbers, I must add) really showed that there is life yet in the old Academy Awards and they are worth watching:

I was also very impressed with the way the Academy chose to honor the acting nominees by having former winners in their categories come on stage to say nice things about them. I know I was touched by some of the nice things said about the actors who were nominated this year … I can only imagine what an honor it was for the nominees to hear those same things being said about them, to them. I hope they will continue to honor the nominees in this way in future shows … it was my second favorite thing about the show after Hugh’s job hosting.

And how about those winners! I think everyone was pretty surprised by that “shocker” of a winner. After the jump, check out some photos of some of the winners posing with their shiny new Oscars and read about what went down last night — oh, and watch Hugh Jackman’s amazing Oscar opening one more time — it’s deffo worth it …
