Another set of 'Twilight' toys
Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Edward Cullen and Bella Swan have been recreated as a new set of action figure dolls and are being made available for pre-sale HERE:

I believe this set would be the third set of dolls that have been based on these Twilight characters (previously we saw THESE dolls and THIS doll) … I guess one can never have too many, right?

Jennifer Hudson Sings Her Heart Out At The SuperBowl

Well, lip syncs her heart out ... but that's OK
Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Jennifer Hudson was on hand to perform the US national anthem the Star Spangled Banner in front of 80,000 spectators in Tampa, FL and over a billion others on TV ahead of the the SuperBowl match-up between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals yesterday evening. Altho J. Hud did not sing the song live and only lip synced along with a pre-recorded vocal, she sounded absolutely amazing and, IMHO, is worthy of praise and adoration. Here are a few pics from Jennifer’s performance yesterday:

Singer Jennifer Hudson made a triumphant return to the spotlight last night when she performed the U.S. national anthem at the Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida. It was the 27-year-old’s first appearance since her mother, brother and nephew were murdered in October. Hudson looked composed and confident as she launched into the Star Spangled Banner in front of an 80,000 crowd in the Tampa stadium and a TV audience of more than a billion … Last night at the end of her performance, she anxiously asked the pre-game show producer Rickey Minor: “How did I do?” “I told her ‘Touchdown!’” Minor said after the performance. “This was such an important performance, because it’s the first time everyone has seen Jennifer. But she’s in such a great place, with such great spirits and time can heal her wounds. She’s on fire right now and totally grounded.” Minor, the music director for American Idol, has produced numerous Super Bowl pre-game performances, including Whitney Houston’s 1991 anthem in Tampa that’s considered the benchmark for singers. He added that Hudson’s two cell phones lit up ‘like slot machines’ following her performance, and she received a moving text message from Jamie Foxx, her co-star in Dreamgirls. “His text said ‘Amazing. It brought tears to my eyes,’” Minor said. “She’s just getting so much love.”

The lip syncing ain’t no thang … Whitney Houston did it when she performed at the SuperBowl back in the early 90s and her rendition became a huge hit at the time (due to the US’s involvement in the first Gulf War, patriotism very rampant). In fact, many performances at such high profile events are pre-recorded. I didn’t get to see the game myself (moving and all) but I did make time to watch J. Hud’s performance. After the jump, check out video of her performance of the Star Spangled Banner

Miley Cyrus, Justin Gaston & Friends Mock Asian Features

She's just being Miley racist?
Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Over the weekend, personal photos of 16-year old Miley Cyrus and her 20-year old manfriend Justin Gaston made their way to the Internets that showed the couple paling around with some friends of theirs. Honestly, none of the photos were very interesting to me … except for one in particular. In some of the photos, a Asian male friend is seen mugging for the camera with Miley and Justin — which is fine. But this photo of Jiley, friends and this compliant male friend appears to show all of the Caucasian kids (and Justin, who is a full grown man) pulling back their eyelids apparently trying to mimic Asian eye features:

I suppose it could be said that these kids (and man) are “just having fun” and prolly don’t intend harm … which may be true BUT, I personally do not think that behavior like this is harmless at all. If children see this sort of thing, particularly from Miley Cyrus who they may look up to, and believe that it is “OK” and “funny” to mock people in this way I really feel they are getting the wrong message. I don’t imagine it’s very fun for Asian children (or adults, for that matter) to be mocked by others who think it’s funny to mimic their eye features. I’m sorry, I personally think it’s bad form. While not surprising (at all) it is very disappointing. I, for one, do not see the humor in a photo like this.

President Barack Obama Does ‘Vanity Fair’ Magazine

Waitaminute, where have I seen this coverphoto before?
Monday, February 2nd, 2009

President Barack Obama is featured on the cover and in pages of the new issue of Vanity Fair magazine, which is all well and good …

… but, the mag used a photo (that was shot by Annie Leibovitz) that has already been published on a previous issue of VF that went to press back in 2007 — clearly they do not believe in Change:

Barack Obama is on the cover of the new Vanity Fair as part of the magazine’s photo portfolio of his team and supporters taken by Annie Leibovitz. (Not to be confused with The New York Times Magazine’s photo portfolio by Nadav Kander from earlier this month.) If President Obama’s sideways position and stern expression look a little familiar, they should: It’s the same photo that ran on the cover in July 2007 as part of a 20-part celebrity-filled spread devoted to Africa, albeit with some small differences. A call to the magazine’s spokesperson confirmed that the two covers use the same photo and that the credit inside the new issue acknowledges that Ms. Leibovitz took the portrait of then-Senator Obama in 2007. We’re just excited to play “Check… and Double Check,” which we hadn’t done since our subscription to Highlights ran out in the fourth grade.

LOL! Clearly the new president didn’t have the time to sit for a photoshoot with Leibovitz since taking office … must be all that runnin’ the country that he’s real bizzy with these days. While I think it might’ve been more prudent to wait for a time when the president could pose for a new photo, I guess VF didn’t want to wait. In any regard, it’s a nice photo … I liked it the first time I saw it. At least we now know that Vanity Fair magazine is into recycling.

Happy Chaos

The TV Guide

OY! What a day it’s been … waking up to major tech problems that shut down my site for a considerable amount of time was not the way I wanted to start my first day in my new home but, there you have it. Okay, lemme backtrack, tho, and catch y’all up from Saturday afternoon … David arrived at 3ish on Sat. and we met with the realtor to pick up our keys — that was the first moment that David got to see the apartment in person. After running and skipping thruout the house (and no lie, David was doing somersaults in the living room) we grabbed a bite to eat and went to see Taken:

As you may know, Taken was the #1 movie at the box office this weekend … and rightly so, it was a really great film. Part Jason Bourne, part Jack BauerLiam Neeson’s character Bryan Mills kicked all kinds of ass to save his daughter from certain doom. I was most pleased to see that Aussie actress/singer Holly Valance is featured in the film as well. She plays a successful popstar (named Sheerah!!!) that needs to be saved from a vicious attack … again, Bryan Mills to the rescue. The movie was surprisingly entertaining … the action scenes were very cool. Luc Besson, the guy who wrote The Transporter movies, co-wrote this film so you can be assured, the action delivers. We both loved the film, it was a fun time at the movies.

Yesterday was the big move day … to be honest, we spent the entire day just sitting around watching the movers pack up and move my stuff. It may have taken Carrie Bradshaw “4 friends + 3 days to put 20 years into 38 boxes” but it took me 4 Russian movers 10 hours to put 2 1/2 years in about 85 boxes. Okay, mebbe not 85 but a helluva lot, that’s for sure. But, we’re here … we slept in my bed, in our new home together … twas very nice.

Today, tho, the tech problems came and, well, it’s to be expected. I still have work to get thru today and then a bunch of errands to run after a handyman comes to fix a few things. Ah domestic life, it so begins.
