Trent, I agree that the president doesn’t just deserve respect for his title. That’s the whole point of America, the prez isn’t some supreme ruler that everyone shows support just b/c of his title, he works for us.

With that said, I still thought it was tacky. The man is a hot mess (thanks to his fam) but he is a man with feelings. I found it just as tacky as McCain’s supporters chanting “Sarah, Sarah” as he gave his very gracious concession speech. (and remembering that, all I have to say is the people above trashing Obama voters should keep their mouths closed, McCain’s voters weren’t always the epitome of classy behavior either.)

I was at the inauguration yesterday and people were actually chanting the “na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye” song every time Bush’s face was on the jumbo tron screen. They also boo’d him continuously. While I voted for Obama and strongly dislike Bush and what he’s done to the country, I was embarrassed that people would act this way. The fact is, we should still show respect to the position of The President and while he’s in office, at least be mature enough not to taunt and harass him.

I don’t know what you all were watching, but the crowd was singing the na-na-na-na song when they ANNOUNCED former President Bush! Call First Amendment all you want-it was super disrespectful!!

I voted Obama, support Obama, and am extremely happy to see Bush leave office. But singing that was so embarassing to me; and frankly, I don’t think that action reflects the type of attiude that Pres. Obama has. He wants everyone to work together!! Seriously, act like Pres. Obama and have some class!!!

I think it’s absolutely ridiculous how childish people have been acting about President Bush leaving the White House. He was the leader of our country. Have some respect people. I don’t agree with a lot of the decisions he made in office, but I do believe that with every decision he made he was doing what he believed was right for our country. No president has had as much happen during his time in office than President Bush. And I understand that people are excited about a new president, but the Obama has no real experience. He promises change. I hope he can bring wonderful changes for our country. I will keep him in my prayers. I hope God blesses Obama and his presidency.

I have now seen four different Presidents sworn into office (and a few Presidential funerals too :( ) and I’ve never seen anything like what was on my tv today. Absolutely amazing. I’ll never forget what I saw today. I’m a staunch Dem and while I wanted Hillary to win the Primary, I quickly climbed on board the Obama train when she didn’t. I think he’s got some great ideas and I hope that his administration gets to see most if not all (hey we can hope) of them be acted out. Truely amazing day. And the whole Bushy leaving? It doesn’t bother me that everyone sang the way they did. It hasn’t been a very good 8 years. And to correct Matt I believe, we did in fact get attacked while he was in office, right under his nose pretty much. Our economy fell apart and half our country was left a distater area after the hurricanes and what did he do? I can’t blame him personally for everything because I understand that there are many people involved in the process but he’s the face of all of them. Let’s see what Obama can do for us in the next four years before we start arguing!

I was only able to watch part of the ceremony due to class and I recognize the historical significance of this day. I wish President Obama well with everything he wishes to do, he has some high expectations to live up to! I was thoroughly disappointed in the reaction of the crowd in DC and of those peers I watched this with and how they reacted to former President Bush. Whether you like the guy or not or agree with his decisions or not the guy deserves our respect. He just spent 8 years doing a job that I think the majority of the country does not have the ability to do. I challenge any one of you out there to do that job and not completely lose it under all the pressure and stress. I personally did not vote for President Obama and did not like how he came across in the interviews but I respect what he has achieved and I will keep in my prayers and I wish him well. That is what being an American is about. Americans should not only be proud of this day but they should also be able to be respectful of former leaders.

I’m sad to hear that people chanted like it was a football game when President Bush left. President Bush was so accomodating to the Obamas. He always spoke of them with respect and kindness. We should all wish him well as we wish our new President well.
History has not been written about President Bush yet. Who knows how we will look back in 20 years? I will always think of him as a kind man who tried his best to do what was right for our country in very tough times.
I wish Obama well. I hope he is able to live up to the high expectations everyone has for him. If he can live up to his press, then we will be lucky indeed!

There is so much to be proud of today. We have made great leaps in racial equality and this day is a testemant to how far our country has come. But just as our President said we have a long way to go. Things may get worse before they get better and that will not be a reflection on Obama, but Bush and that state he has left our country in.

Most of all what we have been gifted with from the swearing in of our first black President is hope. Obama is a beacon of hope and what I love the most about our new President is that he is working to plant that hope in all of us, though for most of the world I dare say, it is already there. That hope is what we need to cleave to.

As far as Bush goes, I said good riddance when he left. All I feel for him now is pity. He left his office with 22% approval rating from the American people. I cannot imagine leaving behind the legacy that he is leaving. Imagine what history books will say about him. For all his mistakes that has made, for the state he has left this country in he deserves no respect, no matter what title he has or had in front of his name.

While I don’t hope to see Obama fail, I hope people will realize that he is not perfect, and will make mistakes and decisions that they won’t agree with.

I think the amount of disrespect people have for Bush is disgusting. How can you judge a man’s decisions when you don’t have all the information? If you think you know everything that went on inside the Oval Office, then you’re a moron. There are so many sealed documents that we have no clue about. If he had chosen to do nothing, we might have been attacked again and then everyone would have been complaining that he did not do enough.

How can anyone just now be proud to be an American?! Nothing has changed! This country calls you a citizen simply for being born within it’s borders. Our brothers and sisters have given their lives for your freedom. Public school is free for everyone. Ane yes, life is not easy for everyone, but if it were than no one would strive for more. This is the greatest country in the world, and it has been for centuries. How can you JUST NOW be proud of it?! If you didn’t like it before, then why are you still here? No one was stopping you from leaving. Something kept you here.

If you expect me to show respect for Obama, then please, show a little respect for our former President, or at the very least, the country.

Whether you voted for Obama or not, whether you agree with his policies or not, whether you think he will be a decent president or not, you CANNOT deny what THIS DAY meant to MILLIONS of people worldwide. Today, I was INCREDIBLY PROUD of my country. I think we made the right decision, and if some of you don’t, well honestly, what else can you do? Be as negative as you want, but honey, look around you. You’re all alone on this one!

I honestly think we should all put our differences aside, and stand united, at least for this once. Can’t we all just be civil, and try to educate ourselves, and others around us? Stop being so negative? If anything, we can learn something from today, and stop being so damn childish! Grow UP AMERICA! IT’S TIME FOR CHANGE!

I just wanted to say that we watched the swearing in at the daycare I work at. My students cheered and clapped after each person spoke and when they announced that Barack Obama was now the 44th president of the US they all clapped and cheered and were so excited to witness such an amazing day in history. I even took pictures of us all enjoying the oaths :)

I was not making the comment that “countries that are not Canada or in Europe are not necessarily the godforsaken lands”. I know that a lot are great in thier own right. I have lived in Mexico (several years), Ireland, Russia, and my mother lives in Jamaica and I spend a lot of time there. I stand by my statement of “if you don’t like the US, go live somewhere else”. My point being, we have freedom of speach…. we call all say what we want, vote for who we want and we should still all be able to get along. My family (brothers and sisters, parents) are both dem. and rep. ….. makes for fun family dinners, LOL. but we all agree to disagree. I for one, am giving Obama a fair chance. I do not judge (at least not yet, it’s the mans first day!:)

I have to say that I do like Obama a lot and am excited to see what he brings to our country. I just hope that people realize he is not perfect and he is going to make mistakes as well. He will not hold up his hand and make everything ok. I thought the chants and booing were completely disrespectful as well, and I am not a big fan of our former prez either. Maybe people will see how classy and respectful Obama is and take after him.

Today was a fantastic day. I am so proud to be an American. I have always been proud to be an American. I voted for Obama and I look forward to him getting to work and bringing our country together. This is a joyous time for us….I think the nasty comments/chants/whatever you want to call it towards Bush or anyone really just kind brings negativity to what otherwise is a happy, unified occasion. Yes, we as Americans have freedom of speech but the nastiness it just disheartening.

A – I am one of the many who are only now proud to be an American. Obv only time will tell what Obama will do, but he seems to be a man of morals, and one who strives to work with those who think like him and differently from him.
I have been so ashamed of the many atrocities that the US has done all over the world., from supporting dictatorships to selling arms or using torture. My aunt can’t watch coverage of the Iraq war because it hits too close to home — the US attacked Panama under Bush I b/c they didn’t agree with their democratically elected leader. As you said, your opinion is yours, and other Americans have theirs — one great thing about our country is that we are able to freely express them.
And BTW, countries that are not Canada or in Europe are not necessarily the godforsaken lands that the media often portray them to be. I doubt that you have lived in every country other than Canada or those in Europe, so don’t infer that they are inferior to the U.S. I have only been to a couple, Panama, Mexico, Costa Rica and Brazil, and they have their problems, like any country, but they are also full of life and spirit.

I’m tired of people saying he was born anywhere other than America. Jesus christ, do you honestly think that he would’ve become our president without us noticing his birthplace?

Wanting to see him fail is disgusting. I did not agree with Bush whatsoever, but if he failed, obviously we would all fail.

Whenever people speak of politics, I often notice the “dirty liberals” comments are far more spoken of then “nasty conservatives”.

EVERYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD people are celebrating his election. From my mother’s Indonesian hometown, to everywhere across the world, people are happy. Any dumbass can see Bush has not done the best job, but blinded super-Republicans can’t see that.
