The Olsen Twins Have Their Walk Of Fame Star Defaced!

Oh, the horror!
January 25th, 2009

It would seem that PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has not eased up on their crusade against Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s love of wearing fur. The twins are protested against by the animal rights group at public events but it appears that that is no longer enough. The twins’ star (along with that of Sharon Stone) on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been defaced with the epithet FUR HAGS! … behold:

Stars of actresses Sharon Stone, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen on the Hollywood Walk of Fame have been smudged with the words “FUR HAGS!” by anti-fur campaigners. While Stone’s star, received in November 1995, was smeared with “OLD FUR HAG!”, the actress twins’ shared marker bared the words “FUR HAGS!”, reports the Daily Express. Many other celebrities, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Socialite Khloe Kardashian have previously found themselves at the centre of controversies for wearing fur. Activists supporting People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have been on their feet to discourage the use of fur and protest against the torture inflicted on animals under the name of fashion. And it has been commonplace to observe anti-fur demonstrations outside the A-listers’ signings and public appearances.

In addition to referring to the Olsens as Fur Hags, the animal rights group also refers to them as the Trollsen Twins … going so far as to set up a website where folks can play dress up with ghastly cartoon-versions of the girls on the site:

Dress Up The Trollsen Twins!

It is NOT absolutely certain that PETA had anything at all to do with the defacement of these stars on the Walk of Fame but, judging by the term FUR HAGS!, it’s likely. At the very least, the grafitti was done by a PETA/animal rights sympathizer … or mebbe just a hater.

  1. zachary Says:

lol i like the olsens but that shit is pretty funny!

  2. Amy Says:

It is pretty funny and the defacer is pretty talented, I’m guessing they were probably paid to do it.

  3. Amy Says:

But seriously, thats the best they could come up with.

  4. Laura Says:

I think that’s gross…I don’t support people wearing fur but PETA takes things too far. I think making a website calling them the “Trollsens” and making jabs at their appearance really undermines their cause–very immature.

  5. kimmy Says:

wow I don’t know what to think about that, but this is from the same people that dumped red paint on people…I guess I shouldn’t be too shocked…

  6. Sassy K Says:

Preach on Laura – I’m with you. There are many animal rights organizations (WSPA, for example) that stay focused on the cause as a whole and choose not to zero in on celebrity offenders. That being said, I absolutely do not support fur for fashion. However, I’d rather donate money to an organization that focuses its dollars on more productive things.

  7. kimmy Says:

Laura I totally agree with you, its hard to support an organization that just attacks people that don’t go along with their M.O.

  8. Oy Says:

    For shame, PETA…for shame!

  9. Hannah Says:

I agree with most people here. Campaining against animal cruelty is one thing, undermining people, abusive behaviour and breaking laws is another.

  10. JJ Says:

Honestly, everytime I hear the words “animal rights” I cringe b/c PETA gives that cause such a bad name.

  11. Jadedkitten Says:

    so stoopid

  12. Dots Says:

While I would never wear fur, I wish someone would deface PETA.

  13. PinkIsTheBestBlog Says:

It’s funny. Not as if these girls are even all that talented in the first place. Does anyone think they’re good enough to even receive a star on the Walk of Fame…? Not really! PETA have gone too in the past with splattering people in paint and causing public havoc, which is unacceptable behaviour. There are other ways to protest without causing harm. Who honestly cares about some star on a sidewalk having a bit of graffiti?

  14. Camille Says:

I don’t like the Olsen twins and I don’t believe in wearing fur, but this is ridiculous. This reminds me of that old axiom ‘fighting for peace is like whoring for virginity’.

  15. Ashley H. Says:

How childish to deface someones hard work… Although I would never wear fur or support retailers who supply it, to each their own.

  16. M Says:

I’d like to see PETA actually put up an educated debate rather then use childish, ignorant attempts to get their message across.

  17. Lisa Says:

PETA is so petty. Their ways of “protest” are immature and degrading. They attack anyone who doesn’t share their views. I personally won’t wear fur, but I don’t see the big deal. To each his own!!!

  18. Traci Says:

I don’t wear fur, and I don’t like the Olsens, but this is so immature and stupid. And the “Trollsen Twins” thing has been done before, so it’s not even creative.
Nobody should really be surprised at what they do though, this is the same group that handed out “Mommy is a Murderer” coloring books to children.

  19. Ella Says:

How is targeting two people with questionable acting abilities supposed to stop the use of animal carcasses as fashion?
Trollsen Twins? My five year old nephew could come up with that shiz. I am all for animal rights, but these people keep going about it all wrong.
    M I agree with you.

  20. tatiana Says:

Its probably not the best way to get your message out, but its kind of funny. I have no sympathy for someone who wears fur.

  21. debho Says:

I hate PETA. More than that, I hate people who deface public property. Graffitiists and vandals are just scum. People who choose to wear fur, sorry, but that’s their choice. No worse than wearing those horrible CROC shoes IMO.

  22. nicole Says:

PETA has to be the worst organization out there. they take things to far & act like a bunch of kids. all the protest they do..doesnt really get the point across..it just seems to piss everyone off. how can the expect people to take them seriously if they cant gain any respect?

  23. Felicia Says:

This is really ridiculous and PETA always goes too far :(.

  24. Samantha Says:

that is just ridiculous! last time i checked this was the united states…it’s a free country! they can wear what they want. yes peta can say and do things that they want but they take things a little too far. such as defacing things that these people have earned and throwing flour on lindsay lohan. they really let their stupidity shine! i hate people like that…if you don’t think the way they do, you’re wrong. not everybody is going to agree with you peta! get over it!

  25. Aislin Says:

It’s pathetic. I’m sorry but wearing fur is a CHOICE. I personally don’t agree with it, I wouldn’t wear fur… but I wear leather boots. Does that make me a murderer? Defacing someone’s well earned hollywood star is just immaturity at its peak. Everyone has their own opinion

  26. Kay Says:

PETA is being really childish. I get the ‘no wear fur thing’ but this is so immature.

  27. pooneck Says:

lame to damage or deface someone’s property to attempt to prove a point. kinda like the naked girl’s that were up here in wisconsin, naked, covered with sandwich boards at KFC, to protest the cruel treatment of chickens when it was literally below zero. i mean use some common sense. prove your point in an intelligent way.

  28. sykosoo Says:

[sarcastic clap] “fur hags” defacement will surely get peta the serious media attention it deserves.

tmz? are you ON THIS?! top storyyyy…

  29. bip Says:

I didn’t realize they shared a single star, that seems like a slap in the face itself, no?

Anyhow, I think they are cool for continuing to wear fur.

  30. Joanne Says:

Did anyone see the number of celebrities proudly wearing fur at the inauguration?? … Say and think what you like about PETA’s style, but fur has crept back into the western world AGAIN, because people have become lazy about the cause and don’t want to think about the gross-ness behind where that fur came from.
I’m not a fan of PETA – but who else is drawing attention to this cause – in a way that people (of the pop culture obsessed generation) will pay attention??

  31. meg Says:

i completely suppor tnot wearing fur and PETA, but graffiti and defamanition of public propert yis dusgusting and also illegal. that is pathetic PETA.

  32. wendell Says:

PETA edges closer and closer to being a terrorist organization every year. They are fanatical idiots with no regard for HUMAN life. If you don’t like wearing fur, DON’T WEAR IT. Nobody is saying you have to. What a bunch of morons.

  33. Project Samuel Says:

I hate PETA… they need to leave people alone!

  34. John Says:

Why is everyone blaming PETA for this? They shouldn’t assume PETA is behind this. PETA would never condone such behavior!

  35. CB Says:

I’m anti-fur, but I’m also pro-freedom and a personal choice is just that. PETA is pretty immature and sensationalistic, in my opinion.

  36. ackeegirl Says:

i LOVE how PETA is all “save the animals” but is totally using crazy sexist language and imagery…i mean, how hard is it to go after them for their fur wearing? Is the rest that necessary? or effective? I always said that PETA’s biggest backers are straight white guys because then they can play the hero for victims that can’t talk back to them.

  37. MeGs Says:

Shouldn’t PETA be out saving some animals rather than wasting time making fake websites about the Olsen Twins?? pathetic! They aren’t the only ones wearing fur, so move on and do some REAL work!!

  38. DMac Says:

I don’t understand how anyone can support PeTA and the efforts they make to try to turn people off wearing fur, eating meat, and whatever else they do. They use news stories for their own selfish, insensitive, inappropriate gain (e.g. the Robert Pickton case, where they tried to compare the murder scene to a pig farm and support their anti-pig-farming campaign) and look like jerks doing it, and now they’re calling fish ’sea kittens’ in order to get people to stop eating fish.

PeTA is definitely not getting any respect from me after seeing this ad campaign.
