Michelle Obama To Be Immortalized
Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum in Washington DC unveiled last month a new exhibit that featured wax statues of now President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton posing with Xmas gifts in the Oval Office of the White House. Today, the museum has announced and released photos of their newest wax statue exhibit which is currently in production. First Lady Michelle Obama is the latest person to be immortalized with her own wax statue:

The First Lady is already getting her first statue: Madame Tussauds Washington, D.C., will unveil a wax figure of Michelle Obama in March. In this photo (released Wednesday), Madame Tussauds senior sculptor Colin Jackson touches up the clay mold of her figure’s head. When complete, Michelle’s figure will join her husband Barack Obama’s wax figure, which was unveiled in February 2008, in a replica of the Oval Office. Obama is the third First Lady to be immortalized in wax by Madame Tussauds Washington D.C., joining Jacqueline Kennedy and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Even tho the statue is in the very early stages, the likeness is really pretty remarkable. Not all of the wax statues that the Madame Tussaud’s sculptors create are perfect likenesses of real people they represent … but sometimes, like in this case with First Lady Obama, they get it pretty perfect. I had no idea that the museum had only previous created likenesses of former First Ladies Jackie O. and Hillary Clinton (I assumed that all First Ladies were immortalized along with their president hubbys) … I guess it’s quite an honor to have a wax effigy created in your honor. Michelle Obama is such an amazing woman, I love that she’s being honored in this way (if, in fact, a wax statue of one’s self is an honor). So far, it looks pretty good … I can’t wait to see the final product — and what outfit from J. Crew it’ll be wearing.

oooh! a bit creepy at this stage but they did get her jutting lower jaw right!

wut none of laura bush lol

Why, exactly, is she so amazing? I’m not being arbitrary – I really want to know. What has she done that’s so amazing?
January 28th, 2009 at 1:02 pm
she is only “amazing” (IMO) for having managed to snag the world’s most powerful man – and aren’t we all a bit jealous!?-
afterall, she gets to sleep (read, “have sex with”) the most powerful man in the free world whenever she wants and that, in itself, is pretty amazing – good for her b/c he’s a bit of a hottie (in that dignified, politician kind-of-way!) !
January 28th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
@Camille, @surgeon girl — actually, I think Michelle Obama is amazing because she worked hard to achieve two degrees (academically, she has more pedigree than Barack Obama does) and still enjoy a happy marriage with two children. She is the perfect embodiment of a proper First Lady. I hope she runs for President after Barack’s eight years are completed and her daughters head off to college.
January 28th, 2009 at 1:12 pm
Yes, she is amazing, but no moreso than many other women who have managed to wear many hats. A lot of women have earned degrees, raised families, run businesses or juggled careers. She really hasn’t earned “immortilization” yet.Just like she hasn’t earned the title “fashion icon”. So far the world has really only seen two outfits. And neither of them were anything to write home about IMO.
January 28th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
She deserves to be president, because she has two degrees and a successful family? Apparently I’m halfway there already!
There’s nothing wrong with her, she seems like a great person but lets let her do something before we put her on a pedastal.
January 28th, 2009 at 2:12 pm
@H — where did I say that she or anyone deserves to be President? I said I hope that she runs for President just like Hillary Clinton did after Bill finished his two terms. Much like Hillary ran for and won her NY Senate seat, I think that Michelle Obama has the same intelligence and wherewithal to have a career in politics. Whether or not she does is beside the point. I merely stated that from what I know about her education and intelligence, she could absolutely have a career in politics. If comedian Al Franken is worthy of a Senate seat than so is Michelle. I guess it pains me that so much focus has been on Michelle’s clothes and sense of fashion and no one is talking about what an incredibly intelligent woman she is. I am absolutely not putting her on any pedestal, nor have I done so for Barack Obama. I’m merely stating my opinion about what I would like to see mebbe happen in the future.

That thing is scary looking! ew
January 28th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
ok – so here’s the deal – i am also a very accomplished woman by current standards. i have an Ivy league, Summa Cum Laude Wellesley ( hillary clinton’s alma mater!) education and degrees and have a very successful surgical practice in NYC but let’s be real, Trent , Michelle Obama’s educational pedigree has nothing to do with the public’s fascination with her – yes – i am quite sure she is a brilliant woman in her own right but people are fascinated with her as she is an extension of her husband – and that’s OK – but let’s be honest – NOONE knew or cared about her outside of her relationship with our President – it’s not an insult – just the fact! And as for running for president in the future..god willing, hillary clinton will be the democratic candidate!
January 28th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
I love her, but is anyone reminded of the Lionel Richie video…Hello is it me your looking 4?
January 28th, 2009 at 2:32 pm
Trent – “where did I say that she or anyone deserves to be President? ”
“I hope she runs for President after Barack’s eight years are completed and her daughters head off to college”
So you hope she runs for presidency, but she doesn’t deserve it? I would hope you think she’d deserve it if you want her to run (and i assume win).
January 28th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
@H — clearly, you’ve missed my point. ah well.
January 28th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
Trent – God Bless You – you seem like a nice enough guy but let’s get real – you are hardly the barometer for all things important or political – understand that there are an awful lot of accomplished women out there who will take offense when you suggest that Michelle Obama is in any position to run for president in the future…please – stick to the idiotic celebrity info that we are all so enamored with (myself included) and nothing else….
can’t wait for your response!
January 28th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
@surgeon girl — oh, I understand why the public is facsicnated with her and I agree that no one “cared about her” before Barack Obama ran for office … but, to be fair, she’s never chased a life of public service (yet). I recall that many people never thought Hillary Clinton could or should run for president and she did so almost successfully. My point is that much like Hillary ran after Bill’s terms were finished, I would love to see Michelle run too, if she so desires. I doubt Hillary will ever run for pres again.
January 28th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
oh trent – it’s so easy to be dismissive when you don’t like what intelligent people have to say in response..
@H – i’m with you – hopefully Trent can reflect before he responds so defensively – sorry Trent -
January 28th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
Trent – why so angry?! Is it offensive to you that smart women have something to say? I’m all for women doing well – God knows – but it only holds merit when it’s based on our own history and not that of our Man…it’s hard to be a feminist-man until you have lived with a woman who continues to fight the sexist struggles…. whatever – this argument is going nowhere…God Bless – I am a true proud American so whatever good things come their collective ways then “YAY!”
January 28th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
@surgeon girl — I’m not angry, far from it … I’m actually glad we’re talking about Michelle Obama’s qualifications rather than her outfits :)
January 28th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
Just one last thing to say, and then I promise I will leave this discussion :)
what your doing is confusing the issue by blowing it off. you’re saying now should she want to run for office she should. That’s a good thought, everyone that wants to be a leader of the nation (assuming they qualify, don’t worry I never will) should be allowed to give it a shot. But you came off as if you were endorsing her. Saying you hope she does run is saying you can see her as a leader of this country, because you wouldn’t want to see her run and then lose. How is there any other way of looking at that statement about her running for presidency. She may be a great leader, I have no idea because she hasn’t done anything and the only evidence you have given is that she is educated and has a family. That sounds like blind loyalty.
January 28th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
@H – indeed! never better said!
January 28th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
So, intelligence and degrees makes you more qualified to argue on an internet gossip site…?
If your just as qualified as /her/, then run for politics!
Its the internet, nobody here’s impressed by your anonymous passive-aggressive bitching.
January 28th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
oh dear neptune! none of us ever said we are more qualified to argue than anyone else- fact is, we are the ones who are! if you have an opinion, then please voice it! sorry – but i’m too busy operating on people to bother with politics (which i have never claimed to have any expertise in)…sorry girlfriend that you are so offended! good night – off to do homework with the kids!
January 28th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
@H — I shall clarify what I meant by my comment … that I would love to see a woman like Michelle Obama follow in a woman like Hillary Clinton’s footsteps and run for public office if she so desires based on what I know of her intelligence. Call it whatever you like, I’ll call it my opinion which you don’t have to agree with … but how cool is that wax statue?!
January 28th, 2009 at 3:22 pm
Very cool :)
January 28th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
I’ll make it short:
Trent, I TOTALLY get your point! It would be awesome if Michelle would run for office in 2016 (if she wishes to do so)! She’s so well rounded, intelligent and she inspires people the same way Pres.Obama does.
@H and (especially) Surgeon girl: You’re just TOTALLY off. There’s nothing more to say to you that Trent hasn’t already said.
January 28th, 2009 at 3:36 pm
It looks pretty good except for the horse teeth they gave her!
January 28th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
yes, Tigresse! i’m totally Off! hope that makes you feel better!
January 28th, 2009 at 4:28 pm
Surgeon Girl, no it doesn’t make me feel better… but thx anyways for admitting it anyways :P
Can’t wait to see Michelle’s wax statue when its gonna be done! The ressemblance up to now is pretty impressive!
January 28th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
I think it’s a little early for anyone to be immortalizing Michelle Obama. And I think it’s interesting that she’s being praised as this amazing women for having 2 kids and 2 degrees and we’re talking about her running for President eventually while Sarah Palin had 5 kids, more executive experience than our current President but everyone kept saying what an idiot she is. Oh, well, I guess it’s only liberal women who are amazing for being able to juggle a career and family. And I think it’s interesting that you use Hillary Clinton as an example because if anything, she’s the worst example for feminism being that her whole career has been based off of riding on Bill Clinton coattails.
January 28th, 2009 at 7:37 pm
@JJ — a wax statue at Madam Tussaud’s is a far cry from a marble statue in the Smithsonian … and how immortal can a wax statue be after all? Regarding Sarah Palin, I would put Michelle Obama up against her any day, and ask them both questions about government and law (like what the job of the Vice President is, for example) to show who is the more capable person. It has nothing to do with liberalism and more to do with actual intelligence.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
jj, h, surgeon girl. please stfu. sail on a boat far away to your know-it-all kingdom. kthnxbye.
moving on..
I can’t wait to see the finished product.
January 28th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Huh. I think it’s interesting that people are talking about Michelle Obama running for president (already? WTF?) when she has absolutely no executive or legislative experience. She has two degrees; well, so do a lot of women, myself included. Does that mean I’m qualified for the Presidency? She’s a mother. Well, so are lots of people. I didn’t realize a uterus meant you were capable of running a country. Don’t get me wrong – I’m not debating Michelle Obama’s intelligence, but I think it’s ridiculous to call her amazing when she has accomplished nothing so far as First Lady. Perhaps judgment should be reserved until after her husband has been in the White House for a reasonable length of time? Also, telling people to STFU because they expressed a difference of opinion from yours (or Trent’s) is grossly immature and frankly pathetic. Like Trent, I believe it’s wonderful to discuss these issues – so let’s discuss them, rather than whining like shrews because we don’t all agree.
January 29th, 2009 at 1:33 am
the reason people like “seriously” resort to phrases like stfu is b/c he/she has nothing more substantial, persuasive, intelligent or introspective to say…fact is “seriously” when you resort to telling people to stfu they’ve clearly won the argument and you have clearly not! so HA!
January 29th, 2009 at 7:20 am
gag me with a spoon
I’m so tired of people thinking that just because she is married to Obama, has degrees, gave birth to children, and can speak automatically makes her smarter than Palin.
January 29th, 2009 at 7:40 am
@surgeon girl — I thought you had all these better things to do (like “operations”) than to comment on gossip blogs and yet here you are again, commenting on gossip blogs. i agree, stfu — not because I don’t have anything more substantial, persuasive, intelligent or introspective to say but because you’re really annoying.
@Karly — the fact that Michelle Obama DOES have degrees does make her smarter than Palin, the ex-”beauty” contestant. based on the things that Sarah Palin publicly talked about during the campaign, I’d contend that a rock is automatically smarter than Palin.
