Jessica Simpson Performs In Virginia
Yesterday we saw a few photos of Jessica Simpson making her arrival in Charlottesville, VA ahead of a live performance (opening for Rascal Flatts) scheduled for last night at the University of Virginia’s John Paul Jones Arena. It was the first time Jess appeared in public since photos of her previous performance last weekend (showing her curvier new figure) sparked much conversation (some, not very nice) about her weight. Last night, Jess took to the performance stage again and sang her heart out (making the faces to prove it) and, at the close of her set, thanked her fans for their support:

In her first performance since the flap over her figure, Jessica Simpson strutted across a Virginia stage in skin-tight leather pants Thursday night and lamented the world’s “completely pointless” focus. “Thank you for your support,” she told the crowd in Charlottesville at the end of her set. “Stay positive, and pray out loud! I love you guys, good night.” Simpson, 28, never specifically mentioned the news of her new curves or the vocal support from her sister Ashlee and Kim Kardashian. But in her performance opening for Rascal Flatts at the University of Virginia’s John Paul Jones Arena, Simpson was no-nonsense and outspoken in her black pants, V-neck T-shirt and hip-length black jacket. “Please remember, no matter what you go through in life, somebody else might have it harder,” she told the crowd. “So just appreciate.” She added: “I feel like in our world today we focus on so many things that are completely pointless.” Fans overwhelmingly supported her. “She’s obviously comfortable with herself to wear those leather pants,” says UVA freshman Laura Tiezzi. “Good lord, give the woman a break, she looks great,” adds Debbie Stollings, a 43-year-old kindergarten teacher in Charlottesville. “It’s mean. She looks more curvy, more womanly. She looks healthy. If Tony Romo’s happy, everybody else need to be too.”
While I still contend that Jessica’s facial expressions on the concert stage are too ridiculous for words (an opinion I’ve held for quite some time), I think she looked great on that stage last night … freaky faces, notwithstanding. I imagine that it cannot be easy for her to hear some of the nasty things being said about her so I honestly believe she is genuinely thankful for the support she’s received from fans.
After her airport arrival yesterday but before her live performance last night, Jessica was spotted on the streets of Charlottesville yesterday afternoon … lookin’ about as fine as she ever has:

I blame that really fug outfit she wore last weekend on all this insane “controversy” about her weight. Again I say, she looks happy and healthy and that is all that matters. Keep doin’ your thang, Jessica. I may not be a fan of the music but I am a big fan of your resolve to not let the haters get you down.

It’s obvious she gained weight by looking at these pixs but yeah no she’s not fat

This is proof that what you wear is very important. Jessica is very curvy and has a small torso, so high-waisted jeans are very unflattering on her. Throw in a crazy wide belt and the focus shifts to the wrong areas, making her look much, much bigger than she actually is. So what if she put on a little winter weight? It’s normal.

I too think her clothing choices are the problem more than anything. They’re just not very flattering. I think she looks great either way be it a few pounds heavier OR thinner. Heck, we all fluctuate from time to time right? At least I do. It’s sad that Hollywood focuses so heavily (no pun intended) on that.

I think she wears fat looking clothes on stage! Each time I have seen her off the stage she looks great!! She looks great on stage but she looks bigger. She looks thin in the second set of pictures. Either way, fat or skinny, who cares…SHE IS HAPPY!!!

She looks amazing and people need to lay off of her.

Girl looks FAB! The fat comments stem from pure jealousy only.

This girl is NOT FAT. But she *does* need someone to choose her wardrobe. She looks awesome in the second set of pics, but that leather (pleather? rubber?) outfit is a horrible fit. She has a terrific body but needs to choose ensembles that are more flattering to her figure.

Someone make this girl a mix tape to let her know we love her!

She seems healthy to me not fat. It’s the clothing choices that are horrible. Fire the stylist and all will be well again. Also, if she could work something out about those awful facial expressions while she sings, it would be appreciated. I like her voice but can’t stand to watch her perform. Her ex-boyfriend John Mayer has the same problem, but Jessica is so much worse to watch. Can’t they fix that?

I think she looks awesome. I think it is really a shame that some people would see her as fat. It is very telling of the way our society is when Jessica Simpson as a size 8 is fat. She probably weighs what, 135? Give me a break, that girl is fine just the way she is.

Totally agree about her facial expressions, Trent. I cannot even stand to listen to her (frankily, her voice does nothing for me anyway) because I just picture her making those dumb faces.

I agree that the outfit she had one last weekend was horendous…for anyone to wear….but she looks fabulous! Last weekend, that was just a really bad outfit schoice that was not flattering in any way whatsoever! But I think that’s all it was…I think the outfit made her look a lot worse than she really looks…in these pictures, she looks amazing, so I really do think that the only reason she looked bad last weekend was the bad outfit choice, it made her look kind of large and it was so unflattering….a really skinny girl would have probably looked bad in that outfit too…but she seems really happy these days and that’s all that matters….hopefully she’s a strong enough woman to not let all this talk about her weight gain get her down.

I agree with Heather. She looks like she’s about a size 8, which many, many women would kill to be. I think she looks great!
January 30th, 2009 at 10:40 am
She looks 100 times better than she did in the tank top and high-waisted jeans – shouldn’t she (or any personal stylist) know by now what she does and doesn’t look good in?
January 30th, 2009 at 10:51 am
@ Heather – Ashlee Simpson hinted on her blog that Jess is a size 2. If it’s true it’s crazy that America’s standards are so closed minded that we think a size 2 is fat on a celeb.
January 30th, 2009 at 11:11 am
Completely agree about the outfit – those mom jeans did nothing for her figure!
January 30th, 2009 at 11:47 am
LOL, Jessica is no size two!!! She was when she was Daisy. Either way she looks great!!
January 30th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
I think she looks fine. I’d kill to be her size. I’m just worried about why she’s walking around Charlottesville. There’s not much there…I’m serious. I love Virginia, but the Charlottesville area is boring.
January 30th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
Trent, you’re probably the only person being reasonable on the web about Jess. She just made the wrong choice of outfit the other day. I was at the show last night and met her and trust me…she’s TINY. She was actually pretty good last night!

Two comments on this:
1. Yes, she gained a few pounds, but it’s her clothing choices that make it obvious. She isn’t fat at all but really needs to choose better outfits.
2. C-Ville is not boring. It’s actually a super-chill town.

People definitely need to lay off with the comments about her weight. But I am totally with you on the facial expressions thing. I cannot watch her sing. That made me like totally not like her for several years after seeing her sing for the first time. Not good.

LOL!

have you ever noticed how much bigger she looks when her hair is big? she looks sooo much skinnier when her hair is straight. it’s weird.
January 30th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
Wow. I just had a “shoe ‘gasim” looking those boots! Bad Ass.
January 31st, 2009 at 1:02 am

she looks fabulous.
girls with a little too much extra meat can’t wear boots like that and pull them off like she does…

I think Jessica Simpson is beautiful…I always have! I just think she has bad taste in clothes a lot of the time!

Shiny fabric looks wrong (on anyone). All this talk about her weight is crazy! … In saying that, I really feel like she’s lost her way (career wise).
She need to retrain again with a good vocal coach who will get her out of those bad singing habits and those ‘tick’ facial expressions.
