Here In An Instant
Yesterday was LA’s last full day of warmth, at least for a little while, because as I type this post this noontime the rain is pattering against my window … slowly cooling down the temps around here. You know, it’s actually OK with me … we’ve had a great run of high 80 degree weather so I don’t mind the cooling down. Mebbe I’ll get to wear my new knit hat with a ball (which is, apparently, all the rage these days) on it sometime this weekend … HMMM. I spent some of yesterday playing around with my Polaroid Instant Camera, which I’ve been very fond of lately, snapping pics of my apartment and neighborhood. It won’t be long now before David and I make the move to our new home together so I’m trying to capture some memories in my current apartment while I can. I’m happy to report that the makers of the Poladroid program finally released a Windows version of their software, which allows any computer user to turn their digital photos into virtual Polaroid photos:

Additionally, I’ve been reading a few of the Polaroid books that I’ve procured recently (including a couple of books that were given to me by David for Xmas) for inspiration. I even snapped a couple of self-portraits in the same vein as Andy Warhol, the famous pop artist who was a big fan of Polaroid photography:

My photos aren’t nearly as good as Warhol’s (obvs) but I’m having fun with the medium anyway. I must say, with each photo that I take I feel another pang of sadness that the Polaroid company has ceased production of their instant film. I pray that The Impossible Project is successful … I really don’t want to stop taking photos because I’ve run out of film — forever.
I have started packing … that’s always fun.
And, to answer some of your inquiries, I did watch the 2 new eps of Lost that aired last night. Sadly, I no longer feel inspired to recap the show anymore. I am not a big fan of the time-travel bologna that they are handing us on the show … you know when a show resorts to using time travel that they’ve run out of ideas and plan to use the convention as a “magic wand” to explain away all the seemingly impossible corners they’ve painted themselves into. I’ll still watch but trying to figure out the secrets and clues is pointless now … all they have to do is Zap! themselves to the past/future/whatever and make whatever tricky square peg they are faced with fit into a round hole. Meh.
In any event, the rainy day will prolly keep me indoors today … I’m trying to figure out my weekend plans but, at this point, it looks like I’m just gonna lay low and keep it simple.

A lil off topic: I suggest adding to your reading stack The Mayor of Castro Street, The Life and Times of Harvey Milk. I’m 1/3 into it now and loving it :)

Wow, I’m so out of the loop! I knew David was leaving New York, but somehow I missed that you two were getting a place together. Sheesh, I gotta read things closer from now on! Well, I guess congrats are in order! I’m sure you’re both very excited to finally be in the same place! Yipee! :)

Blasphemy Sir! LOST is awesome!

I thought you had been watching Lost since the beginning? If you did then the time travel should not have been new to you . It was introduced in the “The constant” episode, season 4, I believe. And eventhough last nights double wammy felt a little overwhelming, trying to keep up with all the little references to past episodes was pretty fun.

@nat — I have been watching from the beginning but last night’s eps prove that they’ve run out of ideas and are now gonna go crazy with the time travel. i’ll still watch, as i said, but i’m not impressed.

Lost is so complicated now. It is hard to keep up with but it is still very entertaining and I am so HAPPY the show is back. Hopefully, it will get going (like the preview showed last night). Take some polaroids of your new place and share them with us:)!!

PS I still love those glasses you are wearing. I remember when you first bought them!

In its place, you should totally start recapping Gossip Girl…..because I think we would all enjoy your take on the show……and because I cannot get enough Chuck Bass. HOT!
I am also packing for a February move. Doesn’t it blow? Be thankful that you hired movers!

I work in interior design and up till about 5 years ago I used Polaroid to take pictures for clients. Now of course everything is digital. Where I live it has been in the 60’s and 70’s. That is just not normal for Denver. A cold front is moving tonight maybe some snow for me(YUCK). Happy packing!

I know that Lost gets convoluted and frustrating sometimes, but how can you keep recapping a blech show like The Hills and give up on the greatness that is Lost? I always look forward to reading your take on the show each Thursday morning and the comments always present something I hadn’t seen or thought of. Please reconsider Trent!

so sad, I can’t get the polaroid program to download :(
January 22nd, 2009 at 2:28 pm
I will echo the sentiment of Missy and say how can you know on Lost and love The Hills or even The City! There’s so few good scripted shows in the tv landscape that keep you guessing. And even though they’re doing time travel, the show is still about the people and their experiences in that crazy world. Oh well… I’ll miss the recaps…

No Trent!!! Please keep recapping. I always loved all the questions you posed and interesting thoughts!!! :0(

P.S. Great polariods and cool shades.

dude u are tripping balls, lost is back to amazing edge of your seat form, meh my rectum
January 22nd, 2009 at 5:38 pm
I was just saying the same thing on Lost myself. It was way better when it was just people ship wrecked on an island with monsters and others. the others didnt need to be time travelers who can leave the island and know physics. And now they are off the island and need to get back on. blah. i will still watch becasue i’ve invested years of watching and want to know how it turns out, but come on……….

Sad to hear you won’t do recaps of Lost. I always came to this site to get your insight on all the little things I missed in the episodes. Here’s hoping you’ll change your mind!
January 27th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Trent! I agree with the other posters! Please continue to recap LOST! I always thought your recaps were funny, thoughtful and always mentioned something I missed. Please think about it! I would really miss your thoughts!
January 29th, 2009 at 8:54 am
Trent, this truly saddens me. My coworkers and anxiously awaited your LOST recaps every week. Very disappointed.
January 29th, 2009 at 11:08 am
@Paula — I’m saddened, too. I wish ‘Lost’ would rely on great, inventive storytelling rather than gimmicky time travel fix-alls.
February 18th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
i cant BELIEVE you could hate on LOST… you realize the “time travel” thing is only lasting for the first few episodes… right? it’s not a permanent thing… as a matter of fact, tonight’s episode, 506, will find most of the Oceanic 6 returning to the island and putting an end to the flashes… to stop watching LOST because you think time travel is now going to be the main focus of the show is very lame… you’ve invested 5 years into the show and now you stop? lmfao… wow
February 18th, 2009 at 5:37 pm
@Josh — I’m not sure what you’re talking about, I never said I was gonna stop watching – just stop recapping.
