Yesterday was a totally chill day … I spent the most of it working but managed to get in a lot of relaxin’ at evening time. I really didn’t do anything very exciting at all, just read a bit and watched some TV. As I mentioned yesterday, Battlestar Galactica returned with the first of 10 new (and final) episodes last night — which I made sure to watch as soon as it aired:

Holy Frakkin’ Hell! The ep was good and, I thought, a great way to kick-off the coming half-season of new eps. At long last, the 5th Cylon was revealed and the cliff-hanger from last June was kinda, sorta resolved. There is so much more to come, I can’t wait for the rest of the eps to air. In case you missed it, folks here in the US can click HERE to watch last night’s ep Sometimes A Great Nation in full online.
I read the entirety of Ayn Rand‘s masterpiece Anthem before going to bed, I’ve got The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged lined up for reading next. I may get out and enjoy the sun today but … no pressure. This is one of my last weekends in my current apartment. I think I’m gonna spend as much time at home as I can, while I can.

The Fountainhead is amazing, enjoy!
I’m not feeling Tigh’s dead wife as the 5th Cylon at all. I was sad about Dee but you could see it coming from a mile away. What is up with stalky Cylon dude being completely freaked by Starbuck now? He’s got no creepy love vibes for the non-humans I guess.
Nerd Alert: The title is actually from the novel Sometimes A Great Notion, by Ken Kesey (author of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest ). Beautiful episode, but so dark all the way around.
Ugh, my name – Dagny – is straight from Atlas Shrugged, and even though it was a thrill to see my name in a book, I’ve never made it further than a chapter in. Be forewarned, she does tend to beat you about the head and down again with her views in Atlas!
Hon, I hate to go all English teacher on ya, but nothing Ayn Rand wrote is a masterpiece from a prose standpoint. And from a content perspective, you can’t be lovin’ on President Hopey if you’re going to subscribe to the egocentric philosophy of Ms. Rand who totally believed that helping one’s neighbor was akin to a crime and the Dick Cheneyesque my-way-or-the-highway was an A-OK way of life.
My advice is don’t worry your sweet head on never finishing Atlas Shrugged and stick to the movie version of The Fountainhead. Gary Cooper might have been half-plastered during the filming, but he was still a hunk.
What “Jukesgrrl” said! And how.
It’s great to see another BSG fan out there :)
What “Jukesgrrl” said, Not!
You can ascribe to many of the ideals set forth in Ayn Rand’s writing and still believe in hope and its attenuant philosophies. I think one of the greatest triumphs of her writing is exposing hypocrisy and the lemming-like desire to follow what one is told to follow. Not everything is black and white- you are allowed to pick a choose things that appeal to you and meld them together with other things that appeal to you- that is where innovation comes from. Thank god for free will.
I agree with Lula! The Fountainhead is my favorite book but I don’t entirely subscribe to her philosophy; it’s a great story regardless! You should not let those comments sway you from reading those two great books.
