January 3rd, 2009

Just when you thought the exploitation of rabid Twilight fans couldn’t go any further comes the latest product tie-in that is designed to entice impressionable fans to part with their money. Hot Topic has just launched a new product for that Twilight fan in your life that already has every t-shirt, poster, bedding product, etc. available … now they can sink their teeth noses into Twilight Perfume:

Twilight Perfume
$48.00

The forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest! So take a bite of this apple-shaped bottle. It contains a delicious lavender and freesia scented perfume. 2.7 fluid ounces. Imported.

I can only imagine. After the jump, check out a bigger pic of the apple-shaped bottle …

OMG, who wouldn’t want this stuff? You can spray it all over your person, your teddy bears, your bedroom … the possibilities are endless! Sadly, folks outside the continental US cannot order this fragrance because customs won’t export fluids into foreign countries … but that just means that there’s more cheap perfume for US Twilighters to hoard! Order now, operators are standing by!!! Er, but don’t blame me if this stuff gives you a rash.

I’m deeply disturbed. Is this supposed to be a unisex scent?

  2. Cherrylips Says:

    THAT’S ENOUGH TWILIGHT

  3. nicole Says:

    hahah yeah right…..

  4. Calliwell Says:

That’s got to be fake, the bottle looks like the same one for Nina Ricci’s http://www.wikicover.com/images/thumb/336px-Nina-ricci-fragrance.jpg

  5. reece Says:

that’s the same bottle as Nina Ricci’s new perfume

  6. Devin Says:

exploit the teeenagers. and make them smell nice. win win.

  7. kittycatastrophe Says:

“…burn, burn down, burn down the Hot Topic…don’t let it steal your soul away…” *sung in best Peter Murphy voice*

I believe the Goth kids from South Park addressed this issue with a clarity that everyone could understand.

    The Goth kids rule!

  8. mel Says:

It’s supposed to smell like Bella, not Edward.
That’s how he describes her to smell in the book.
I wonder if it’s any good. This franchise is getting a little out of hand

  9. JG Says:

that bottle is a ripoff of this: http://www.fragranceonline.co.uk/images/_catalog/nina-perfume-by-nina-ricci.jpg

  10. kristy Says:

  12. LizInDC Says:

I’m with Kristy. The raping and pillaging of my fandom can stop now- thanks.

  13. Roxster Says:

oh man, and I thought after the dolls the marketing couldn’t sell out any further. Damn it. I love Twilight…this just makes it even harder to admit it in public.

  14. Heather_Lea Says:

I walked into Hot Topic the other day, and the chick by the door started telling me and my friends about it. She said something like “It’s super exclusive. Like, each store only gets 10 bottles of the stuff. And when it’s gone, it’s GONE.”
And when we went up to the counter to pay for our stuff, there were, like, 4 bottles sitting on the counter. Obviously not many people are into it. But, hey, you can’t blame them for trying to get a little extra cash.

And also, I saw a new Edward Cullen doll. Similar to the one already featured on the site, but it wasn’t the same. It was slightly less scary looking. Haha.

  15. Yoka Says:

Really? Is this real? Because the bottle is exactly the same as the Nina Ricci perfume: http://www.talkingperfume.com/pics/nina/nina.jpg

  16. Olive Says:

This is so ridiculous…I adore Nina Ricci perfume, love the books and like the movie :-) … but enough is enough…This is just too much…

…just can’t get the thought of Edward smelling like a girl out of my head; I think this supposed to be made for girls trying to attract Edward…Too bad he’s not real…

  17. Kari Says:

I have the exact bottle (w/out the words) but I got it this past summer when my boyfriend brought it back from Iraq. It’s called affection.

  18. Sawadee Says:

it’s the same bottle as Nina Ricci perfume… but i don’t know if you have those in usa. Here is a picture :
    http://www.talkingperfume.com/pics/nina/nina.jpg

    so strange

  19. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

Looks like the Nina Ricchi folks will be suing the pants off the Cullens

  20. Christina Says:

They sell it at Borders and it smells exactly like a candle. A nice smelling candle, but a candle nonetheless.

  21. Dani Says:

This is obviously fake. That’s the bottle of the perfume NINA by Nina Ricci, but slightly photoshopped. If I were to invent a fake Twilight perfume,I would have chosen a LOLITA LEMPICKA apple shaped perfume bottle. It’s definately more gothic and vampire-like.jeez..even fake news aren’t what they used to be..

  22. megan Says:

ok enough with it being like nina whoever…its obviously not fake if what’s their name up further says they actually saw it.

  23. richard s Says:

man them shorts are screaming BEARD to me, is this guy really positively hetero ?

  24. Sarah Says:

Jeez am I the only one excited here? Who gives a damn about Nina Ricci and her perfume, this is Twilight. I therefore am extremely excited and can’t wait to get my hands on it and my nose smelling it =) They make things for every movie, every artist, every famous person, so why cant twilight have a perfume? you guys are being way to picky. If you dont like the fact that it looks like her bottle then dont buy it, duh! and then get over it.

  25. Tracy Says:

I heard this perfume smells like ass..

  26. Fatima Says:

    It does smell like ass.

  27. Tammy Says:

I was at the mall today and decided to take a sniff just to see what it smells like. Even though I love Twilight, I could not fathom spending $48 just for “Twilight” perfume. Especially since it smells like Pine Sol. Dead serious.

  28. Erin Says:

Ok, so I’m a Twilighter, but even for me this is a bit much! I wouldn’t want to smell like Bella! I have a 14 year old cousin, who was going to buy it but was 5$. I would want her to at least smell it before she buys it, but it was wrapped up so tight that she couldn’t. I told her not to buy it, since she may not like the smell once she buys it. I’ll just stick with the poster and a tee.

  29. Lana Says:

To those of you who think it is not real, I have seen it in Hot Topic and it is super lame. I am a Twilight fan but even this is too much.

  30. Val Says:

Lavender and freesia sounds like something I’d enjoy, regardless of it’s Twilight affiliation. I’d have to give it the ol’ sniffy sniff first, for sure, though.

  31. Heidi Says:

I know what the world needs next….Twilight toilet paper!

  32. Val Says:

Come to think of it, when the inevitable Edward fragrance comes out, it should be packaged in a blue glass heart and smell of cinnamon, vanilla and cedar. I’d probably buy that too.

  33. shannon Says:

What does this smell like? Oh, I know! It smells like a lawsuit from Nina Ricci!

  34. Lisa Says:

lol!! ok this made my day.

  35. meggles Says:

Before this came out, there were (are) fans of the series who crafted their own perfumes of the characters and put them up for sale on my favorite crafted goods site (etsy.com, not a direct link to the perfumes… you’d have to search for them in the shops.)

Their perfumes are cheaper and you have more options… and it makes me able to be the “twerd” I am while supporting other people’s hard work… not a franchise. I do like going into Hot Topic to look around, but I’m always content to go home and search the craft site for what new twilight stuff is on there!

Once I can talk my husband into it, I’m thinking of getting an Edward or Jacob scent…. to sniff while reading my books again :)

  36. meggles Says:

Found the link to their shop! (Hopefully they don’t get too overcrowded with orders)

    http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_list_2&listing_id=19259023

  37. Linda Says:

This stuff is not fake. I bought it at FYE for a friend for xmas. It’s not that great, but it doesn’t smell bad either.

  38. Linda Says:

It’s not exclusive either. There were dozens of them in the store.

  39. Laine Says:

yah deffo a ripoff of nina ricci.

  40. Faith Says:

    This is just disturbing -.-

  41. Zainab Says:

omgosh! what a nina ricci rip-off!
    i think it’ll smell really weird.ughhhh

  42. Emily Says:

I just wanna smell it and I prob won’t because I live in Canada!! There’s gonna be more crazy suff coming out to keep eyes on the twilight movies to get more $$$. Just wait and see

  43. rossy Says:

I like perfume as much as the next gal but this is pretty silly debating over “rip-offs” – a perfume BOTTLE can’t be ripped off because none of them are patented or exclusive to one company or another… The perfume’s ingredients can be “copied” & is by those putting out generic brands I’ve seen in stores (generic name – based on Calvin Klein’s “Obsession”, etc.).

So just because the bottles are similar to each other, take a closer look & (if possible) sniff them both, but color-wise… Nina’s is rosy while Twilight’s is “blood” red. So they may be very different indeed. As Jared wrote: “it caontains a delicious lavender and freesia scented perfume.” – What is HER’S made from?

Granted, the Twilight guys could have gone with a more unique bottle design than Ricci’s… Hell, does a perfume company make their own bottles or get them from suppliers after submitting designs? Maybe the bottle should have been fired in the image of Robert Patterson WITH FANGS.

    Would that be better?

  44. sophie Says:

can Nina sue hot topic for copying the bottle ? lol

  45. Kirsten Says:

Ack!!! Bloody Hot Topic is desecrating my obsession with their relentless hawking of shite Twilight-themed products! Enoooough. I’m a total fan-girl but the only time I’d buy this is if it was in the £5 bargain bin. As it is, it’s not available in the UK, but i’m going to assume that it smells like diesel mixed with flowers. Not good.

I’d still like an Edward though…if Hot Topic started selling those off the shelves I’d be there in a shot.

  46. PinkIsTheBestBlog Says:

I know what Edward Cullen smells like! Or rather, I know what Robert Pattinson smells like as he was right up close in front of me signing autographs at the London premiere of “Twilight” and I straight away noticed his aftershave – VERY NICE INDEED!
The perfume idea is going too far with the merch ideas, though. Stick with the posters, t-shirts and all the usual stuff, but who’s going to buy a perfume? Will it actually take off or be a bad scent of a flop?

  47. PinkIsTheBestBlog Says:

…looks like a photoshopped version of the Nina Ricci bottle, for sure. I’m not convinced just yet if this really is a genuine item of merch.

  48. Mary Says:

Trent, unfortunately it is very real. I saw tons of these bottles in stock yesterday at my local Borders. For the record, I thought it smelled like laundry detergent so if any of y’all are into smelling like that then go for it!

  49. pinkfan Says:

We’re all sick of everyone and their mother coming out with perfumes… but as long at Britney and JLo keep selling millions of bottles of their scents we will continue to see and (hopefully not) smell attempts to cash in on this market.

  50. Marbeque Says:

I agree this looks sooo much like the Nina Ricci perfume that I just assumed it was fake, even the box looks fake.

  51. Kirsten Says:

Heh Trent was there any doubt that Edward Cullen/Robert Pattinson would smell anything less than divine? I doubt that :D

  52. Sassy K Says:

    This is so lame. Barf.

  53. Marissa Says:

It smells kind of alcohol-y, but you can get it for $24.99 at Borders book stores!!!!!!

  54. Suzy Says:

Yeah, I smelled it at the Borders bookstore yesterday…

It smells like some really gnarly AVON SOAP from the 80s…stuff my lame aunt wore and made me gag.

They could have and should have made it smell better. Shit, I would have bought it if it smelled good…and I’m a 29 year old! hahaha…

  55. PixieBassline Says:

Nope. I have never wondered what Edward Cullen smells like.. Not once.

  56. BEE Says:

I give props to Twilight for making their own perfume. At least they could have picked a different bottle design instead of using the same one as Nina Ricci….which is an awesome scent by the way!!

  57. Christie Says:

    This is absurd.

  58. Panterasuno2 Says:

Yea, we had it at Borders. (Went really quick too, oddly enough) Ours was only $24 tho…..still a bit much for something they never even sent testers with. Don’t want to by perfume without smelling it…..

  59. Desirae Says:

IT SMELLS HORRIBLE, SERIOUSLY LIKE CHEAP HOOKER PERFUME LOL

  60. Michelle ma belle Says:

Don’t get me wrong, I love Twilight (books and movie) but I really hate it when the marketing people go overboard on making random crap and then slap the name on it. Maybe it’s just me. It does however tend to make me like them less.
