Doll Parts
Blah … plans to hang out with Darion and Kirsten kinda fell apart at the last minute last night so we had to reschedule but I was able to hang out for a bit with Steph and Alek. We went out for a nice dinner at Fat Fish before returning to their place to watch a movie … we somehow ended up watching Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City) and Andrew McCarthy (Lipstick Jungle) in their HIT 1987 movie Mannequin:

I prolly hadn’t seen the movie myself since ‘87 so I forgot that Kim Cattrall even starred in it … as did the late Estelle Getty (Golden Girls). Seriously, the movie is sooooo cheesy (full of bad acting and even worse fashions) but we had a lot of fun watching it together (S&A had never seen it before).
Today, with the temps going into the 80s, is a beach day … I’m gonna wrap up soon and get my ass out to soak up some sun. I hear that NYC is gonna get some snow this weekend … pity. Hopefully I’ll have some fun pics to share!

“Mannequin” is an awesome 80s comedy! The sequel with Kirsty Swanson (who also starred in the original movie version of “Buffy The Vampire Slayer) sucked! Kim Cattrall and Andrew McCarthy were great.

I loved Andrew McCarthey….he was my favourite brat-packer. Don’t tell anyone, but I have a collection of 80’s films on DVD…The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Mannequin, St Elmo’s Fire, About Last Night, Can’t Buy Me Love, Say Anything, She’s Having a Baby. The fashions were for the most part tragic (yet I did wear them back then lol) and the storylines sometimes trite and cheesy, but loads of fun.

Mannequin is the absolute best movie, ever. When I was a kid I used to call it the “Dummy” movie because I never knew what it was called. Nothing can touch the 80’s era.

Oh I love Mannequin!! It’s hilarious and so cheesy in the greatest way! Oh, Mannequin! Now I want to watch it right now!

This is one of my favorites! I was so surprised to see it on the blog– I shouted “Mannequin!” lol.

That movie takes me back! I can remember watching it when I was, oh, about ten. LOL.

Mannequin is awesome 80’s with a great montage, what else does one need.

This is so wierd. I watched this movie last night too. It was something random that was on encore or starz. I probably watched it 20 times when I was a kid, if not more. What struck me most was how bad the special effects were. It was still fun to watch though!

i absolutely love mannequin!! 80’s movies are so great, you have to admit. my absolute favorite movie though is “big business” with bette midler & lily tomlin. it’s another 80’s gem that you so need to watch if you haven’t before.

LOL! I saw this too! I watched most of it a few months ago probably on the same channel, and the other night I thought I’d watch the parts I missed! But then I got a phone call… still haven’t seen the whole thing. I’m considering buying it on Amazon because it’s cheap and has both 1 and 2 togther… could be interesting to add to the 80s movie collection.

hey don’t talk smack about the sequel, that one creepy ass dude with the mole hair stole the show, but the original mannequin has it’s place in 80’s pop culture history. Started me and my sister’s weird obsession with Mannequins( my mom even tried to find us one for christmas one year) scary huh

yeah khrystal, big business, had that awesome “higher love” song in it too. I used to watch it on video at my cousin’s house in her parents room . good times folks, good times

Whoa. Did you know this movie won AWARDS? I’m watching it now (because you brought it up and I hadn’t seen it in awhile) and I had to Google it. Mind you, some of these awards sound made up…it’s still interesting.
Good ol’ “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” was even nominated for an OSCAR.
So THERE! It’s a GOOD movie!! :)
