Avril Lavigne’s ‘Abbey Dawn’ Rears Its Ugly Head
Yuck! When last Avril Lavigne’s clothing line Abbey Dawn, which is sold at Kohl’s department stores here in the States, surfaced in public, it was inflicting its cruel torture on the good people of Japan at a fashion show in Harajuku, Tokyo last September. It pains me to report that Abbey Dawn has made its way back to the US and will be featured in a new ad campaign that is being shot here in SoCal this week. Here are a few photos of Avril wearing Abbey Dawn on the set of her latest promo ad photoshoot yesterday afternoon:
Yeesh … the clothes are pretty bad but WTF? is up with the beehive? It looks like Avril is getting some really, really bad styling advice from someone who appears to hate her. She looks so tragic … but, then again, I’m sure these threads are bringing her in quite a nice bit of change. In these trying economic times, I can’t blame her for capitalizing wherever she can. That said, she could try and class up the whole line, I think. The yellow outfit isn’t too wretched … she just needs to learn how to edit … and burn that beehive weave. Does any of this appeal to any of y’all?

Yuck. What’s worse is that this is what little tweens everywhere wear around…along with the all-around-the-eye thick, black eyeliner. They’re trying to look older, but you can spot their age a mile away just from the obscene amount of makeup and the styling of the makeup.

Maybe some of the pieces would be ok..separately but all of the crazy stuff put together is definitely an eyesore. Avril’s stuck in the past. She needs a mayjah overhaul! But I think the yellow hat is kinda cute, no?

I work for kohls…the stuff may be ugly but sells pretty well. Most people stick to the one ugly at a time part so it doesn’t look as bad.

I agree that some pieces could look hot alone. Like the shoes, or the yellow hat. But, she certainly is appealing to a specific type of buyer.. you would think she would want to diversify.

I’m 21, and while I don’t pair all the pieces with each other, I do have a lot of Abbey Dawn clothing. I’m not too crazy about some of the newer shirts, but I definitely have a lot of the hoodies. Don’t like it? Don’t buy it.

Personally, I think Av is adorable, and I love her style. No, I’m not a ‘tween’, but if I could get away with looking as cute as Avril does in those outfits, you bet your ass I’d be buying this stuff up!

Are those rain boots from her line? Cause they look a bit like Tokidoki boots, and if she’s wearing Tokidoki I’ll be very =(.
I don’t have a problem with the thrift store punk look, but she’s in her twenties, she can still look and act like a mature twenty-something who just happens to be a bit of a punk (not that she really is, obviously). She proves she can with the yellow outfit. But everything else is hideous.

I used to live in Hong Kong, so I can defend her a bit, saying that 1. Avril is HUGE in Asia, and 2. this does fit the asian teeny-bopper aesthetic, and 3. Kohl’s is known for cheap lines that induce vomiting. So yeah. She hit it on the nose. Otherwise, it just looks like she tried to rip off Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B.

Okay, so I can understand this wardrobe in an “I’m-too-cool-to-give-a-shit” type way. However, Avril has manufactured these terrible garbs so that young girls can look totally disheveled and homeless—— on purpose. All these little punks want to dress different and stand out but they all look the same. Bad, and the same. Avril is a pop star not a punk rocker. Lol.

I always thought the EARLY Avril was a fraud … A good Christian girl from Canada who scored a record deal and had her image shaped to be the ‘alternative’ to Britney and others … by record producers and stylists (to make $$$). Hence, she is older now and being herself and it doesn’t quite work! Avril seems so out of touch with how she is being perceived and what is fashionable (and I’m not just talking about the clothes). But I guess she’s getting richer.

well, I really don’t like her at all, but I own a couple of shirts from her line. SOME things are kind of cute. I certainly wouldn’t wear all those together. I’d wear the yellow top with the denim skirt, but not with that hat. The last outfit was horrid. she looks like an emo hooker with special needs.

I think Avril is cute. I like the middle pic. That stuff isnt my style and it does look like something from her past. I liked the look she had right after she got married- a little more feminine and mature- but these clothes are for specific people like the kids who piss me off in the movies by talking loudly.
