Tori Spelling Is Ready To Join The Cast Of ‘90210’

So ready for her close-up
Monday, January 19th, 2009

A couple of weeks ago we learned that Tori Spelling was in final negotiations to reprise her star-making role of Donna Martin on the Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off series 90210 … and today we get to see just how much hard work Tori achieved so that she could return to the world of 90210 in the best shape possible:

Seven months after giving birth to her second child, Tori Spelling has regained her figure – and just in time too. The Hollywood actress, who gave birth to daughter Stella via C-section in June, has signed on for a reoccurring role in new 90210 as Donna Martin, the same character she played on her father Aaron Spelling’s original TV show. She is set to reunite with her former co-stars Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth, who also signed on to the show last year. Before landing the contract, Tori, 35, said: “My dad always wanted to do a new version of 90210, so I’m sure he will be beaming from above! And I’d love to somehow be a part of it. That as well would make my dad proud.” Tori, who also has a 2-year-old son Liam with her husband Dean McDermott, worked hard to regain her physique ahead of the part. She told InTouch magazine: “When I got my body back after Liam, I was happy. But this time, I was like ‘I kick ass!’ I’m a working mum of two, so to know I did it all my myself was huge.” The 35-year-old gained 3.5st during her pregnancy which she shed steadily after the birth with the help of a healthy diet and exercise. “Breakfast was yogurt, fruit and nuts. Lunch was homemade soup with a sweet potato or soy milk base. We’d snack on celery and peanut butter, and then I’d make lean protein with vegetables for dinner. I would go for long walks or biking with the kids. We’d do physical activities every day. I’m proud! I could’ve gotten here sooner if I was fanatical and worked out extensively every day, but I’m glad I didn’t. I’m so happy I did it with my family and in a healthy way.”

Wow! Tori looks great! It’s clear that she’s been working really hard behind the scenes in order to get her body in shape to rival the skinnys who inhabit the world of 90210. I’ve held from the beginning that Tori Spelling deserves to be on the show with her BH, 90210 cohorts so Donna Martin’s introduction on the show is way overdue. I can’t wait to see Donna make her grand entrance on the show. At this point, we aren’t sure when Donna Martin will be returning to 90210 but I hope it’s soon … we’ve waited too long already. Any guesses on what sort of drama Donna may bring along with her? Do y’all think she’ll still be married to David Silver? Do tell!!

Scarlett Johansson Is The New Face Of ‘Dolce & Gabbana’ Cosmetics

Goes blonde bombshell in the first campaign ad
Monday, January 19th, 2009

Scarlett Johansson has been tapped to become the face of Dolce & Gabbana’s new range of make-up products which is set to launch this year. Here is our first look at the first ad campaign for the new line of cosmetics which features Scarlett lookin’ all Marilyn Monroe in sexy repose rockin’ the red lips and nails:

We already love their sexy dresses, fabulous fragrances and amazing accessories, and now we have Dolce & Gabbana’s first makeup line to look forward to! The Italian design duo told WWD that Scarlett Johansson will be the face of the new collection, which had input from legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath. “We see makeup as another thing for women, like a dress. We worked on the makeup line like we work on a clothing collection — you can change makeup like you can change your clothes, depending on your mood,” Stefano Gabbana told WWD. The makeup will be packaged in glossy gold slipped into gold pouches, with colors taking inspiration from the Mediterranean (think deep blues and golds). The lipsticks will be scented with rose. “We wanted to create makeup with a scent. Domenico and I remember when we were children and opened our mother’s handbags — the scent of her lipstick trailed out. I observed that when women open makeup, they smell it first,” said Gabbana. As for Scarlett, she was photographed for the sexy ad campaign by Solve Sundsbo lounging in a bed, recalling images of Marilyn Monroe. “Scarlett is sure of herself,” Gabbana said. “She’s a beautiful girl, but she’s really easygoing. She is very Dolce & Gabbana.” The products are set to launch for spring with prices ranging from $20 for nail lacquer to $59 for powder foundation.

Scarlett looks like the perfect person to launch this new product line for D&G. I don’t know that the world really needs another line of (what sounds to me like) expensive make-up but best of luck to all involved. As I’ve said many times before, I’m not too fond of the garish red look but the Marilyn pose is nice.

Stan Lee To Create A Gay Superhero For Showtime

Is the world ready?
Monday, January 19th, 2009

Variety is reporting that Stan Lee is in production with Showtime to create a new TV series that will focus on the life of a gay superhero who struggles with identity issues … both of the secret and sexual orientation variety. To some, this idea sounds like a good one … one that may go a long way to fostering acceptance of gay issues. But is the world really ready for this next step?

Showtime is developing an hourlong project from comicbook icon Stan Lee that tracks the life of a gay superhero. Project is being exec produced by Lee and the president and CEO of his Pow! Entertainment banner, Gill Champion. Story, which focuses on an up-and-coming superhero who struggles to hide his secret identities, is based on the book “Hero” by Perry Moore. Moore is penning the script and also exec producing along with Hunter Hill. Previous series television produced by Lee includes whimsical reality-competish skein “Who Wants to Be a Superhero?,” which ran on the Sci Fi Channel from 2005-07. The comicbook maven is in development on several features for Paramount, including “Thor,” “The First Avenger: Captain America” and a sequel to last summer’s “Iron Man.” Project joins more than a half-dozen others in development at Showtime, including a series retelling of “Camelot” from “Tudors” creatives Michael Hirst and Morgan O’Sullivan.

Lee’s new creation will NOT be the first gay superhero in existence. There are quite a few gay superheros already (Northstar, an incarnation of X-Men’s Colossus and the latest incarnation of Batwoman, to name a few) but a Showtime series like this may, in my estimation, help make the issue of sexual orientation a non-issue. Stan Lee is a venerated comic book creator (he’s practically holy in some circles) and I’m very happy to know that he has signed on for this project. I’m really encouraged and intrigued by this new project … I can’t wait to see the final product.

Hugh Jackman Pens A Letter To ‘Wolverine’ Fans

"WOLVERINE will be badass and hopefully meet all of your expectations"
Monday, January 19th, 2009

Hugh Jackman reads blogs, apparently. After a few worrisome comments were published in the venerated movie blog Ain’t It Cool News, Hugh sent an email (and a hawt promo pic) to the folks at Ain’t It Cool that tried to put fans’ fears to rest and explain why some scenes had to be reshot for the upcoming movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Here is the full text of Hugh’s letter along with the kickass promo pic of some of the X-Men O.G.s (ie. original gangstas) that will be featured alongside Hugh’s Wolverine in the new movie:

Hey Mate- Would you mind posting this? Thank you for your support! HJ

Hey everyone -

It’s Hugh Jackman, sending this note from freezing Vancouver. I have read a lot of your online comments regarding the footage that we are currently shooting and I share your passion for the Wolverine character and the movie – I owe it all to you guys!

I wanted to reach out and let you know that due to scheduling conflicts with certain cast members and location/weather considerations, we had to wait until now to shoot a couple of scenes. Please rest assured that WOLVERINE will be badass and hopefully meet all of your expectations. I am stoked by the positive response to the teaser, which clearly reflects the tone and scope of the film. If you like that, we’ve got much more in store!

In the meantime, here’s an exclusive shot of some characters you may recognize…

Cheers,

Hugh

Um, HOLY SHIZZ! Can you imagine getting an email from Hugh Jackman? Lordy, I think I’d die … but I’m totes digressing. I think it is really smart of Hugh Jackman to try and nip speculation on the film’s reshoots as soon as possible. Once bad buzz gets going on the Internets, it’s very difficult to undo the damage. I’m not sure that his explanatory email will satisfy all concerns by some of the fans but I think it’ll help some. It’s really very cool of him to to send off an email to try and address fans directly. The photo that came along with the email is pretty sick … it features from left to right: Wade Wilson/Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), Remy LeBeau/Gambit (Taylor Kitsch), Logan/Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Victor Creed/Sabretooth (Liev Schreiber) and Silver Fox (Lynn Collins). Reshoots or not, the film opens in theaters on May 1. I’m already ready. Personally, I have no doubt that the film will be as “badass” as Hugh promises.

Polaroid Saved?

The Impossible Project is trying to do the impossible -- Save Polaroid
Monday, January 19th, 2009

Those of you who are familiar with my blog know that I have been enjoying a rekindled love affair with Polaroid Instant Photography over the past few months after learning that the Polaroid Company has ceased production of both their instant cameras and instant film. I’ve mentioned a few times how I’ve been hording Polaroid film and have been collecting Polaroid cameras in an effort to “get it while I can”. In the past few days I’ve been hearing about a new project that is underway in Europe that is working to save Polaroid film and come up with an inventive way to start up manufacture of the film again. Pink reader Meredith pointed me to an article that explains how The Impossible Project, headed by Florian Kaps, is hoping to take the business of manufacturing Polaroid film into his own hands so that production of the film can be revived:

For a generation, the Polaroid camera gave near-instant pleasure to millions of users around the world, chronicling everything from births and weddings to the downright explicit. But when digital photography came along in the 1990s – with instant images and the ability to edit and delete pictures before they see the light of day – Polaroid was doomed, its iconic white-framed snaps apparently defunct. When Polaroid announced last February that it would stop production of its instant film, it seemed the much-loved camera was gone forever. But within weeks, a group of users had started a global campaign for the format to return. And now, thanks to an unlikely saviour, their pleas have been heard. If all goes to plan, the Polaroid factory in Enschede, Amsterdam, will soon be making film again thanks to its new owner, an eccentric Austrian artist and businessman named Florian Kaps. Mr Kaps, 39, has dedicated the past five years to instant photography. He set up Polanoid.net, the biggest Polaroid gallery on the web, and the first ever Polaroid-only art gallery in Vienna, called Polanoir. Now he plans to save the film. “The project is more than a business plan; it’s a fight against the idea that everything has to die when it doesn’t create turnover,” said Mr Kaps. Dubbed “The Impossible Project”, the development of new film for Polaroid cameras launches today. Working with the Manchester-based black and white photography company Ilford, the machinery is in place to produce film of two exposure types, each compatible with both the classic SX-70 cameras popular with artists and the more modern 600 series. Work has begun on a prototype. By hiring 11 of the original Polaroid team from the factory floor, Mr Kaps aims to mass produce both colour and black and white film under the Impossible label by December, coinciding with the projected date that existing stocks will run out.

Please, sweet baby Jebus, let this be true. I fear The Impossible Project sounds too good to be true … can a group of individuals and a handful of Polaroid employees really revive the manufacture of Polaroid film? I’m willing to be hopeful but I’m not really counting on it just yet. This is great news tho … just this weekend, I snapped a bunch of really amazing Polaroids and it just kills me to think that one day soon, there may be no more Polaroid film to use anymore. There is still much interest in Polaroid film, the Washington Post published a new article lamenting the loss of Polaroid film just yesterday. I’m deffo keeping my fingers and toes crossed that Kaps and his crew will be successful in this very ambitious endeavor … but in the meantime, I’m still gonna be stocking up on Polaroid film whenever I can. Whether the manufacture of Polaroid film can be saved or not — I still plan to take as many Polaroids as I can, while I still can.

Kelly Osbourne Busted!

Kelly O gets arrested after allegedly slapping a journalist last Summer
Monday, January 19th, 2009

The long arm of the law has finally reached out and grabbed ahold of Kelly Osbourne. Kelly stands accused to slapping a journalist in a London nightclub last Summer (after said journalist reportedly made some embarrassing remarks about Kelly’s then model boyfriend now fiancée Luke Worrall) … apparently, charges have finally been made against her and Kelly O got picked up by the cops over the weekend. She has already been released on bail and is scheduled to be in court to face assault charges in March:

Kelly Osbourne has been arrested for allegedly slapping a journalist in a London nightclub last summer. The 24-year-old daughter of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne was released on bail as inquiries continue. She is scheduled to return to see authorities in March. The allegations stem from a claim that Osbourne hit gossip columnist Zoe Griffin after Griffin wrote an article mocking Osbourne’s model boyfriend Luke Worrall. In a piece last August in the U.K. newspaper The Mirror, Griffin wrote that she was approached in Punk nightclub by Osbourne, who took issue with a story Griffin had written saying Worrall had to ask how an earthquake was caused. Griffin quoted her saying, “I have an issue with you. My boyfriend knows what an earthquake is and everyone has been laughing at him and he’s upset.” As the conversation drew to a close, Griffin wrote, “That’s when I felt a hard slap to my right cheekbone.” As is customary, Scotland Yard would not name any of the alleged protagonists. But a statement read by a spokeswoman said, “I can confirm that a 24-year-old woman attended a central London police station by appointment at 3pm on January 2.” “She was arrested for common assault relating to an alleged incident in Soho in the early hours of 29th August 2008,” the statement continues. “She was bailed to attend a central London police station on a date in March.” A rep for Osbourne had no comment.

I, for one, am shocked! I cannot understand how the daughter of a woman like Sharon Osbourne, who is famous for being a lady in all instances and would never condone the use of violence to settle a score, could stand accused of such a heinous infraction. Surely she didn’t learn this kind of behavior, if indeed she did slap the journalist in question, from her mother. Just a thought, if this assault did, indeed, take place as Griffin claims … wouldn’t it have made more sense for Kelly to have slapped Luke for being so ill-informed of the seismic sciences? I can’t *wait* for this case to go to trial!

The View From The Top Of The World

The TV Guide
Monday, January 19th, 2009

Yesterday was another glorious weekend day here in SoCal … bright, sunny and warm. I could really get used to Summer in January. On Saturday night, Steph, Alek and I decided to spend the afternoon at Griffith Observatory atop Griffith Park so that we could enjoy the beautiful sunshine from the best vantage point in the city. It was truly a very fun afternoon … here are a few photos that Steph and Alek shot yesterday:

I snapped my fair share of photos but did so with my Polaroid instant camera. The day was just perfect — great weather, not too crowded. Steph and Alek had never seen a show inside the planetarium so I convinced them to see Centered in the Universe. They were just as blown away as I was the first time I was able to see the show. I was able to meet Pink readers Sarah and Cari at the observatory yesterday … the lasses from England were there to enjoy the day as well (Sarah lives here now but Carrie is heading back to England this week … I sincerely hope she is able to come back soon).

After our day on top of the world, we came back down to Earth and relaxed by S&A’s rooftop pool to watch the sunset … it was really a very fun day. We ended the night with dinner at Ulysses Voyage at the Grove and that was that.

Tonight, a bunch of us are going out to see Candis Cayne’s performance at The Abbey — she’ll be doing a Bush’s Last Night in the White House Show — can’t wait!!
