Hugh Jackman Grabs Some Coffee

Your daily dose of Hugh hawtness
Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

Hugh Jackman continues to holiday in NYC this week after he and his family returned to the Big Apple from a quick trip to Vermont for a short skiing trip for New Year’s Eve and was snapped all bundled up yesterday as he ran out for a cup of joe … lookin’ damn fine all the while:

You know, it takes a damn sexy beast to make the mundane look so appealing. Hugh is simply walking the streets of NY with coffee in hand and, MMM, just looks like he needs his bones jumped. You may recall that Jude Law was seen reading a book on holiday in the tropics and made that everyday enterprise look totally delish. Fully clothed or not — no matter what the hell he is doing, Hugh Jackman is quite the sight to see. I hope we get to see sexy pics of him dropping off his laundry sometime soon!

GyllenSpoon Shop Up Melrose Ave.

Vintage shopping, you say?
Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

Everyone’s favorite snoozy couple, Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal, spent part of their day doing a bit of shopping on Melrose Ave. yesterday and were snapped making their way out of the new Ralph Lauren Double RL Vintage Shop that just opened on Melrose … and Jake was seen with a little bag tucked under his arm (that might’ve contained a t-shirt, a tie or some undies perhaps?) as they left, behold:

Aren’t they just so exciting? Really takes your breath away, don’t it? As you may recall, GyllenSpoon were spotted courtside at the Staples Center cheering on the LA Lakers earlier this week so it appears that the couple are really doing all the fun LA things this week. I must say, I am a huge fan of the Double RL Vintage shops … I picked up my amazing 1950’s vintage army boots from the Greenwich Village Double RL store in NYC back in November (and have been living in ever since) and just picked up another little something at the SoHo Double RL store on my most recent visit to NY. This really isn’t meant to be a commercial for Double RL, it’s mostly a plea that Jake should give me a call when next he wants to go shopping there … I’m sure I could be of great help on his next shopping excursion … you know, picking out shirts, checking out accessories, getting in and out of clothes in the dressing room. Yeah, I’m just putting it out there … Jake, call me.

‘Twilight’ DVD Gets New Artwork

Thus far, no release date
Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

Good news for fans of the movie version of TwilightSummit Entertainment has revealed the official artwork for the upcoming DVD release of the megahit movie that was just released a couple of months ago … behold:

Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) doesn’t expect much when she moves to the small town of Forks, Washington, until she meets the mysterious and handsome Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson)—a boy who’s hiding a dark secret: he’s a vampire. As their worlds and hearts collide, Edward must battle the bloodlust raging inside him as well as a coterie of undead that would make Bella their prey. Based on the #1 New York Times best-selling sensation by Stephenie Meyer, Twilight adds a dangerous twist to the classic story of star-crossed lovers.

The DVD artwork looks pretty standard, no big surprises … interesting, tho, that the “bad guys” are featured on the DVD artwork even tho they weren’t in the film very much. I might’ve featured the Cullen family instead but, I suppose it doesn’t really matter. As yet, there has been no release date announced for the Twilight DVD but now that we know what the artwork will look like, I suspect a release date is imminent. So Twilighters … do we like?

Brad Pitt Reveals That He Did NOT Have An Affair With Angelina Jolie

Claims his split with Jennifer Aniston was "respectful"
Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

Brad Pitt is going on the record for the first time to flat-out deny that he had an affair with Angelina Jolie while he was still married to Jennifer Aniston. It was commonly believed that Brad and Ange fell in love (at first sight, I believe we were told) on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith and began an extramarital affair behind Jen Aniston’s back … but, in a new interview with W magazine, Brad clarifies that there was no “dastardly affair”, stating that his relationship with Angelina began after he “respectfully” ended things with Jen. HMMM. This is the first time we’re hearing about this after all these years … seems a bit fishy to me. Here is the cover of the new issue of W magazine which accompanies Brad’s revelatory coverstory:

Forget any potential catfight between Brad Pitt’s former wife, Jennifer Aniston, and his current partner, Angelina Jolie, the actor says in a new interview. Despite Aniston’s recent comment to Vogue in which she called Jolie “really uncool” for revealing how she (Jolie) couldn’t wait to go to work with the married actor on Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Pitt tells the February issue of W magazine, “Listen, man, Jen is a sweetheart. I think she got dragged into that one, and then there’s a second round to all of that Angie versus Jen. It’s so created.” The Curious Case of Benjamin Button star, 45, also says of Aniston, “We still check in with each other. She was a big part of my life, and me hers. I don’t see how there cannot be [that]. That’s life, man. That’s life.” As for his take on what took place with Jolie off-camera during the 2003 Mr. & Mrs. Smith shoot, he says, “What people don’t understand is that we filmed for a year. We were still filming after Jen and I split up. Even then it doesn’t mean that there was some kind of dastardly affair. There wasn’t.” He adds, “I’m very proud of the way that it was handled. It was respectful. [The film] will mean something to our kids. It will, that’s all.”

Curious … very curious. You’d think that someone (Brad, Angelina, Jennifer) would’ve made very clear YEARS AGO that Brad respectfully ended his marriage with Jen before he started his relationship with Ange, especially in light of all the heat that came when news broke that Brangelina were an item and that Brad and Jennifer were dunzo (in that order). HMMMM … I don’t know that I totally buy Brad’s retelling of history here. After the jump, check out the rest of the photos from Brad’s W magazine photospread …

Apple iTunes To Offer Music WITHOUT Copy Protection

All music on iTunes will be DRM free by April '09
Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

Speaking at the Macworld Expo keynote presentation in San Francisco, CA yesterday afternoon, Apple marketing vice president Phil Schiller (who was standing in for Apple president Steve Jobs who was unable to give the keynote address to do health problems) announced that all songs available on iTunes will be offered without digital rights management copy protection by April 2009 with 8 million songs available DRM-free starting today. Oh yeah, he also announced the release of a new Macbook Pro laptop computer that promises up to 8-hours of battery life and a drop in iTunes music pricing but I think the big news is the end of copy protection coding on iTunes music:

Apple on Tuesday said every song in its iTunes library will be available without anti-piracy software by April. The announcement came at a Macworld Expo keynote presentation at which Apple marketing vice president Phil Schiller unveiled a new top-end MacBook Pro laptop computer model and snazzy upgrades to Macintosh computer software. “We worked with all major music companies and, starting today, iTunes will offer eight million songs DRM free and by the end of this quarter all 10 million will be DRM free,” Schiller said. “All songs will be DRM free in iTunes at iTunes Plus.” Recording studios have long insisted on digital rights management (DRM) software that prevents music from being copied. In what may have been a concession that led to the studios backing off DRM demands, iTunes in April will break from its six-year tradition of selling songs at 99 cents each. Songs will sell for 69 cents, 99 cents or 1.29 dollars with studios deciding pricing, according to Schiller. Music studios have long lobbied Apple to charge more for songs at iTunes. “We know already that more songs will be offered at 69 cents than at a dollar twenty-nine.” … Schiller said iTunes has sold more than six billion songs since it began offering them at 99 cents each six years ago. Schiller took to the keynote stage in place of Apple’s iconic chief executive Steve Jobs, who revealed on Monday that he is suffering from a hormone imbalance that has caused him to lose a disturbing amount of weight. The keynote was used to spotlight an elite MacBook Pro laptop with a 17-inch screen and a starting price of 2,799 dollars. Schiller boasted that the new MacBook is slightly less than an inch thick and weighs 6.6 pounds (three kilos) making it the lightest, thinnest laptop. “It’s simply stunning,” Schiller said. The MacBooks can be jazzed up with more powerful processors and hard drives for various prices. The laptops also feature built-in batteries that promise as much as eight hours running time and 1,000 recharges, meaning typical use could result in a battery lasting five years before needing replacement. The new offering comes in the wake of Apple reporting that it sold 9.7 million Macintosh computers in 2008, setting a new record for the company … Unlike at Jobs’ keynotes past, there were empty seats in the Macworld audience and the reception area lacked the crowds typically found when Apple’s consummate pitchman was the star attraction. Schiller appeared nervous at times and dressed in a blue button-down shirt as compared to the black mock turtleneck that is a Jobs trademark. “I can’t tell you how much I appreciate all of you for showing up,” Schiller told the audience. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you very much.”

This is great news for iTunes users … but it must be noted that the Amazon MP3 Store has been offering DRM-free high quality songs for quite some time now. It’s about time that Apple got on the bandwagon … tho, I suspect it’s the record companies that took their time to get on board. It really feels like the consumer is winning the war with the recording industry … just a few weeks ago we learned that the recording industry will no longer be suing individuals who share music and now we’re hearing the death knell of copy protected music. It remains to be seen if any of this will help get the recording industry back on track but at least they will be perceived in a more positive light by the consumer which can only be good for their business.
