James Franco, amazing actor extraordinaire, played host on Saturday Night Live last night (the LAST SNL of the decade, his second time hosting) and shock of shocks — he was actually fantastic. The skits were about as funny as they have been in recent months (mostly meh) but Franco is such a great actor that he is able to work with any project at all (hello, he’s been killing it on the daytime drama General Hospital the last few weeks) and make it work. I’ve always thought that James Franco would make a good James Dean and, wouldn’t you know it, he actually played a cute James Dean in one of the skits last night. And at last, SNL finally did a little something with MTV‘s Jersey Shore (3 weeks too late, I might add) and while it wasn’t terribly funny, I thought it was kinda cute. Nicole Snooki Polozzi made a guest appearance during The Weekend Update:
The only thing that could’ve been funnier was if Snooki herself actually guested on the ep … no such luck. All in all, tho, this was one SNL that I actually enjoyed thru and thru. James Franco was a fantastic host. I really liked most of his skits but I think the Kissing Family was my fave (with the Christmas Tree Lot as my second fave). Did you watch Franco last night? i didn’t get to see all of it so thanks for posting! i always love the kissing family lol and he did play james dean on a made for tv movie back in like 99, it was the first time i saw him but he did a really great job back then :) plus he’s pretty damn sexy

Seriously. I saw a clip of him from General Hospital the other day; *love* his soap opera acting (i.e. over-dramatic, kind of shitty). Also pretty hilarious.
As far as I know it was Mark Rydell’s 2001, made for TV biopic about James Dean. and yes, he looks perfect for it!

This was actually an awesome episode. I laughed during each of the skits and it wasn’t always James Franco I was laughing at. But he’s funny as hell and definitely made it amazing.Thanks for posting them!
sorry, but I thought he was terrible!! It looked like he was stoned the whole time. He could hardly open his eyes on stage, he stumbled over lines in every skit. It was just bad!!
Trent, James Franco did play James Dean in a movie titled James Dean. I believe he won a golden globe for his performance. hahaha so indeed he did make a good james dean as you said.
the tizzle wizzle skit was my favorite, even more than the kissing family. it was short and freaky, but james franco emerging from the blackout in blood-covered jammies screaming “what’s going on?!” had me hysterical in an ‘ohnotheydidnt’ moment.
Does he always talk like that? I mean, in the opening monologue was weird…

I thought james Franco was all kinds of weird on saturday night live yesterday. I don’t know if it’s drugs but the dude was acting strange. Like when he smiled his face was just wrinkly and he’s a young guy.
I thought James Franco sucked on SNL last night. The tree lot skit was the worst. i don’t know if he was purposefully looking at cue cards, he was blatantly reading, or if he just did a bad job. He also kept doing the same hand motions in that skit, it looked like someone in high school drama could have done a better job. Over all I was super disappointed.
OMG.. Loved the episode.. Loved JAMES FRANCO.. But i have to say Kristin Wiig.. She is a GENIUS.. Love her in every skit.. LOVE HER!
Not funny at all. Watched the whole lousy episode and laughed once. Franco may be cute, but that didn’t make the show funny. Even the usually reliable Weekend Update was disappointing. Just a bad show.
Love this man I will see anything he does because he’s so talented. I got to see him years ago in London where he did Long Days Journey Into Night-that was the first time I’d ever seen him and he was just terrific! He manages to bring a real sense of urgency to all the characters that he plays that is both sexy and compelling!
To be honest, I haven’t watched SNL in ages. But I think James Franco did an awesome job (whilst being totally freakin’ HAWT) AND I LMFAO’D @ the Snookie skit. Looks like I should totally start tuning in again!!!
For really great acting and man to man time watch his performance in MILK! Not to mention an amazing film.
