The 2010 Grammy Award Nominations Have Been Announced

Beyoncé leads the way with 10 noms, Taylor Swift follows with 8 noms

Last night, in a lavish concert ceremony, the nominations for the 2010 Grammy Awards were announced on CBS and now we know which musicians will be vying for the most prestigious award in the music biz. Beyoncé, who had a pretty amazing year this year with her album I Am … Sasha Fierce and her massive hit single Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) leads the way with 10 nominations … but young upstart Taylor Swift, who has been winning a lot of pretty big awards already this year, managed to secure 8 nominations of her own. It sounds like the 2010 Grammy Awards are going to be pret-ty interesting:

Hold onto your seat cushion, Kanye West: It’s on – again! Taylor Swift’s amazing year continued at full speed as the teen sensation received eight Grammy nominations Wednesday – topped only by Beyoncé’s 10. And with West not far behind, joining the Black Eyed Peas and Maxwell with six nods each from their music-industry peers, the stage is set for another awards show showdown. But can it top West’s bizarre microphone grab during Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Awards? Naming the Grammy nominees was no quiet affair, either. Kicking off the big reveal was George Lopez , who was star struck by Smokey Robinson and Ringo Starr staring at him from ringside at Wednesday’s The Grammy Nominations Concert Live: Countdown to Music’s Biggest Night at LA’s Club Nokia. Still, the comic and TV host still found the words to announce the nominations for Song of the Year. And they would be Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face,” Maxwell’s “Pretty Wings,” Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It),” Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody” and Swift’s “You Belong with Me.” In the Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals category, the nominees are the Black Eyed Peas, for “I Gotta Feeling”; Bon Jovi, for “We Weren’t Born to Follow”; The Fray, for “Never Say Never”; Darryl Hall and John Oates, for “Sara Smile”; and MGMT, for “Kids.” Katy Perry announced the Best Rock Album contenders: AC/DC, for Black Ice; Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood, for Live from Madison Square Garden; Green Day, for 21st Century Breakdown; Dave Matthews Band, for Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King; and U2, for “No Line on the Horizon”]. Dwight Yoakum named the Best County Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal hopefuls: Brooks and Dunn, for “Cowgirls Don’t Cry”; the Zac Brown Band, for “Chicken Fried”; Lady Antebellum, for “I Run to You”; Rascal Flatts, for “Here Comes Goodbye”; and Sugarland, for “It Happens.” Robinson and Starr had the honor of naming those in the running for Record of the Year and Album of the Year. For Record: Beyoncé’s “Halo,”, Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling,” Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody,” Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” and Swift’s “You Belong with Me.” “Don’t worry, Taylor,” advised Robinson. “Kanye West is not here.” Album of the Year nominees are Beyoncé’s I Am Sasha Fierce, the Black Eyed Peas’ The End, the Dave Matthews Band’s Big Whiskey and Swift’s Fearless. The hour-long nominations concert, broadcast on CBS, also featured a tribute to the late Michael Jackson, performed by Maxwell, as well as the debut of Nick Jonas & the Administration, who were introduced by Nick’s brothers, Kevin and Joe. The concert emcee was LL Cool J, whose opening routine contained the lyrical phrase, “No need to adjust your TV/It’s not Hugh Jackman/It’s a black man.”

Wow … people are loving Taylor Swift these days. I have to admit, I was happy that she won the awards that she won this year at the MTV VMAs and the CMA Awards but if she ends up taking home all the Grammys next year, I think Kanye West might just explode. As talented as I think Swift is, I’m really rooting for Beyoncé to win all the awards next year. She has worked really hard for so many years and this year is no exception. Her songs were megahits this year and she really deserves the credit. We’ll have to see how the Grammy voters feel when the 52nd annual Grammy Awards are handed out on January 31. I liked last nights show. LL tore it up! His face looks a little odd thou. Work?? Anyways, I really hope B wins too! Her songs and talent go way beyond Taylor’s. I would like to see Greenday pull in some awards too. I can’t wait to watch.

  2. vanessa

I wish there were more lesser known artists. i always thought the grammys find some of the top musicians who may not be mainstream. oh well. im glad about adele

  3. scott

You have to give credit to Britney, who is also nominated with “Womanizer”. I think Britney is really snubbed at the grammy´s, but at least she got nominated. If she wins, she´ll have two grammy´s… I think she really deserves it… Just saying…

  4. Jadedkitten

Taylor doesn’t deserve most of those noms I don’t give a fuck, I blame Kanye for this ever since the VMA’s the world’s been throwing her on big pity party and it’s got to stop.

  5. Kyle

@Scott- i really hope Britney wins too, but sadly i think it will go to poker face :( Brit had a great year she deserves some recognition for that.

  6. san

hell yeah! i am happy for Taylor but the Major Awards really has a stiff competition this year! Beyonce, Taylor and Lady Gaga are all massive this year so i would be happy if they all win.

tho i want Tayor to win so much, because i know she’s talented and all but the success of Fearless is just too much that i don’t think she’ll have the same in the succeeding years so, i wish for her to get all the awards while she can!

  7. cherrr

    Beyonce is overrated.

  8. scott

    lets just hope…

  9. KP

I agree with @Jadedkitten. I want Beyonce to win.

  10. Woo! Three Green Day nominations!!

  11. jennie

lol at kanye’s head exploding, now that would be a sight to see!

  12. cindie

so happy for the two dmb nominations, but i doubt they wil win either. i think u2 will take the rock cat, and either taylor or beyonce will take the album of the year cat. fingers crossed though.

  13. krissy

I really like some of Beyonce’s singles, I am a fan of hers…but I was disappointed with her cd as a whole. I have to skip around a lot, and I don’t even listen to the first cd, so I don’t think she should win album of the year.

  14. Kitterrrr

The Grammy nominations are CRAP this year. There’s no way Black Eyed Peas should ever be nominated for six awards for that god awful album. LMFAO being nominated makes me want to vomit as well. Grammy nominations shouldn’t be based on record sales.

  15. meg

Isn’t that MGMT song like two years old? I don’t know exactly what the rules are for grammy nominations, but I thought it was at least supposed to be current…

  16. CHASE

    -The Grammy’s are a joke.
-I’m sorry but Beyonce is one of the most overrated artists of this decade. All she does is sing and shake her ass around in a leotard and copies Rihanna’s style because she can’t adapt to her own. Sorry, the truth hurts, BB. Not to mention she finds songs that were already written, changes a few lyrics around, and then slaps her name on them and gets credit for them. She’s a total cheater. I give her credit for singing live but she’s still the same to me.
    - I like Taylor Swift, I really do but 8 nominations seems to be a joke to me for someone who has barely decent vocals. Her songwriting is good, yes, but not Grammy-worthy.
    - Whitney Houston was snubbed! Poor thing. Didn’t she release her album early for the Grammy’s?
    - BOOOOO

  17. Raquel

I love how you completely omitted any mention of Lady Gaga in your post, seeing as she did score a few nominations herself. lol Happy for Taylor and I guess, Beyonce.

@Chase: I don’t think Whitney was snubbed – after hearing her perform her new song a few times, she just doesn’t have the awesome voice she used to. Kudos for her making a comeback but its just not the same.

  18. Lexifer

The Unforgiven III is the Metallica song they chose? Seriously? I love the song don’t get me wrong, but there were better (harder) songs on that album.. the entire album was amazing (except for My Apocalypse). Also, their album should have been in the best album category.

    Fuck U2.

  19. Lexifer

@Chase.. RE: Taylor Swift.. I agree. Her vocals aren’t that great, and You belong with me really isn’t that great a song. Obviously I’m more into metal and rock, but I love all music (including country) and she just doesn’t do it for me.

ALSO.. Slipknot’s Psychosocial should be on there somewhere. Easily one of the best songs of the year. And amazing to see live, and I’m pretty sure All Hope is Gone came out around the same time as Death Magnetic, so if Metallica is eligible, Slipknot should be too.

  20. Sarah Jane

I definitely agree with @Jadedkitten. I just want Beyonce to win a lot of awards, especially since she had THE BEST VIDEO OF ALL TIME. OF ALL TIME!!!

…yeah, I definitely just did that.

  21. Ella

I’m with JadedKitten. I have never understood the appeal of Taylor Swift and chalked it up to teenagers these days liking crappy music. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me and I’m glad other people realize her vocals are not that great.

  22. Sergius

    Lady Gaga all the way!!!

  23. meg

WHY exactly is Kanye West not allowed to be there? He is far more musical & talented then Taylor Swift. He has produced numerous albums & has FOUR hit albums of his own. I find the whole situation disgusting. I hope Taylor Swift gets hit by a bus, the talentless hack.

  24. Andrea

I’m happy Kelly Clarkson got one nomination for best pop album but i i mean come on! My life would suck without you?! Does everyone forget that song??? Ay caramba. I’m sorry I’m just a serious Kelly fan and her latest album deserves a lot more recognition.
