‘The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus’ Releases A Movie Trailer

by

Yesterday we saw a few photos from the UK premiere of the new film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and today we get our first look at the film’s video trailer. As you may already know, Parnassus was the late Heath Ledger’s last film (it was the project he was working on when he passed away in early ’08) and it is finally ready for release. Here are a few caps from the first official movie trailer for the film:

Because Heath passed away before the film was completed, the movie was tweaked a bit to fill in the gaps … Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law appear in the film as Heath’s character in the scenes he had yet to complete. It’s a pretty ingenius way to salvage the film. After the jump, check out the video trailer in full to see what Doctor Parnassus is all about …

It looks good … creepy … visually fun. I can see why Heath would want to take on this role … he was always looking for new ways to expand his craft. This is the first role he chose after appearing as The Joker in Batman: The Dark Knight. I’m anxious to see this film … I have been for a long time.

I can’t WAIT to see this film…. will probably make me cry sad tears though :(

  • Samantha

It looks beautiful. Even if it’s bad I will love it because it’s pretty. I’m sure it will be fascinating though.

  • Mela

Ooo…this is intriguing to me in the same way as Alice! It just looks so far out and totally stunning to the eye.

  • Illise

OMG the movie looks amazing and i cant believe i will say this but johnny depp looks hot and collin and jude yummy,. cant wait to see this i was so sad about heath when i saw batman this will be amazing

  • Autumn

This moving looks so good, and I can’t wait to see it. I am also excited because I think this is Lily Cole’s first movie? She is the red haired girl (and also a professional model).

  • Meg

I saw this movie at a film festival a couple weeks back! As you can imagine it’s very bittersweet. Really good though!

  • Amanda

I don’t like how Heath’s name wasn’t mentioned in the credits… not sure why they did that.

  • Whoa!

  • Jie Hui

How could they [very meanly] leave Heath Ledger’s name out of the credits?! I totally agree with Amanda.

I even thought there’d be something like “And remembering, HEATH LEDGER” or something along that line.

    :(

  • Lilly

I don’t know what you guys are talking about. Heath’s name is the first one listed!! Go to 1:01, it’s right there!!

  • Michael

@ Lily – lol I was just about to say the same thing. His name is the first one mentioned, at 1:01, with the words “Academy Award Winner” right above it – kinda hard to miss guys!!

  • Kendra

I actually saw this a few months back..It looks so awesome!

  • I should add in, Johnny, Jude and Colin did it pro-bono, and any money they did get they gave to Matilda.

  • M3

Can’t wait to see this! I’ll be there opening weekend, that’s for sure…with a box of tissues.

  • mimi

i love how johnny says “nothing is permanent.. not even death.” this movie will be incredible.

@Autumn – this isnt lily cole’s first movie. im fairly sure st trinian’s was. either way, she looks beautiful in this.

  • Nettie

I can’t wait to see this. Pretty much everything that Terry Gilliam does turns out to be phantasmagorically thoughprovoking and mind-blowingly amazing, and I am sure it will be a fitting tribute to Heath Ledger.

  • Ally

It is so sad that this is the last new material we will see from Heath. I really hope the movie does him justice.

  • Sweet_Lady

How will it be explained that other actors are filling in? Or are we just supposed to know why someone is in the scene because Heath didn’t get a chance to finish it. The movie looks interesting but oh so confusing!

    • @Sweet_Lady — I believe there is a huge element of magic … I suspect the changes will be explained that way.

  • This looks amazing. I was hesitant when they said Depp, Farrell and Law were going to finish the film but it looks like it was really well done. Even if all the actors were crap, which we know they aren’t, it is a visually stunning piece of work. I will definitely be seeing this one.

It’ll be weird to see him but at the same time I’m excited. Seeing him in Batman I was so amazed. He was incredible. And anything with Johnny Depp is an instant must watch for me, I didn’t know that they did it pro bono……… I’m proud of them.

  • @Sweet_Lady…. I read a while ago that the movie goes to 3 different “worlds” and that Jude, Colin, and Johhny are representing Heath’s character in those worlds. They had shot most (if not all) of the scenes for what I am guessing is the “real” world before he passed. They were taking a break in filming before they started on the rest of it.

This movie was just on at the Vancouver international Film Festival and they had to add extra showing cause it was so popular. I sadly didn’t have the time to go :(

  • Oh, I am definitely watching this. I love having beautiful men all in one film.

This movie will be amazing ! Its going to be so eery and sad watching though =(
and for all of you who say he’s not in the credits:
He’s the first one mentioned, it says “Academy Award Winner Heath Ledger”

This article actually says how they explain the changes to the other actors:

    I can’t wait!

I laughed so hard when I saw the people complaining about him not being in the credits. They billed him first at 1:01 and he ISN’T EVEN THE STAR OF THE MOVIE! Not only is he credited, but he will be the biggest selling point for this movie. If he were alive this definitely would be Christopher Plummer’s thing.

The Tony storyline was rewritten following his death so that other actors could finish the role. And if you’re going to have it finished, you might as well do it with a bang — and 3 hugely successful actors is, er, quite the bang.

There was something very eerie, by the way, about Johnny Depp’s line: “Nothing’s permanent… not even death” in this situation.

I’m looking forward to this movie. A lot.

  • Danielle

this trailer has been out for a couple weeks, hasn’t it? i’ve seen it on comingsoon.net before. hrm.

so excited for it! CANT WAIT.

  • Adler

Wow…..for a second I had forgotten that Heath had passed away when I saw the photos and then it just hit me. So sad….

  • Chantal

I just saw the movie tonight and it was absolutely fantastic! It was pretty sad though to watch Heath in all his glory while knowing the fact that he’s now gone..
