Oprah Winfrey, the HBIC of the world, taped an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show live in Rumsey Playfield in Central Park here in NYC today and none other than Mariah Carey was among her special guests. The happily marrieds are still goin’ strong … as is evident in these photos. Mariah even performed a song off her new album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel (due out later this month) complete with a full gospel choir — which means this show is must see!!
Now, I’m not a regular Oprah watcher so I’m not sure if the ep will actually air today or if it will air on Monday … but I’ll deffo be on the look-out for the You Tube clips that are sure to come. I’m not sure I’m diggin’ this Mariah 2009 lookin’ like Mariah 1993 thing she’s got goin’ on. It was cute for promo pics but I dunno that it’s a good idea to recycle one’s own look in the flesh.

I’m pretty sure it’s airing today, Trent. The only reason I know that (I’m not an Oprah-watcher either) is because I’ve been kinda curious when she was gonna announce her next book club selection. And in finding out when that is happening (also today, btw) I also learned that Pariah Scarey is on today too.
As for the selection, I was holding out futile hope that Kathy Griffin’s new book would make Oprah’s cut, but alas it turns out to be collection of short stories instead.
Mariah is looking extremely curvy in those pics!! And also very Vision Of Love-ish …. which is awesome.
You know when I see Nick come out and kiss Mariah … I keep flashing back to Lisa Marie and Michael Jackson’s kiss on the VMA’s years ago “and they said it wouldn’t last” ick.

am I the only one who thinks Mariah is really full of herself? Whenever I see her out or doing interviews, it’s just what I see… Don’t get me wrong, I love her music. But I feel like she’s stuck up.
Mariah and Nick look great. She has put on a few pounds of happily married weight. Nothing wrong with that.

leave her alone, trent! it seems like she’s finally comfortable in her own skin and her hair being left natural looks great. half the time, you rag on celebrities for how they look and when they actually try to look natural-ish, then you think they should put the look back in the box. whatev. she may be a pompous celebrity, but it seems like she’a happy – whatever hair style of the day she is rocking. i think her hair looks great.

@zena – Mimi’s hair is NEVER natural, haha. I guarantee it took her (read: 15 stylists) 16 hours to get that ‘natural’ 90s look back.
Anyone who is hating on Mariah is in serious need of a reality check. Mariah is one of the most amazing and down to Earth celebrities EVER. I have had the pleasure of MEETING her and she is the most gracious human being on this planet. She is completely thankful to everyone who has ever impacted her life, including her fans. This is the very reason why to this very day she is still loved so much all over the world. Please take your head out of your ass before you bag on the lovely Miss Mariah Carey! <333

I also prefer her old hair as well. To me, when she has her hair straight it looks extremely flat and dead while it emphasizes on her forehead and she can’t pull off bangs… But what bothers me about the look is that it doesn’t match her music she carried with back then. Her music sucks now and she’s turned into a diva (she’s always been a diva but now she has her Bachelor’s Degree in Diva 205 while she used to have an AA) so… blah! Oh, and Nick Cannon hosts that one show and does interviews or something.

…I am probably being too sensitive about it. Perhaps I have been thinking too much about Chris Rock’s documentary “Good Hair”, and the pressure for women of color and mixed race to alter their God given hair because of the pressure of society. IMO, beautiful hair comes in all shapes, textures, and colors. Mariah’s natural hair is beautiful, it is sad that she spent the past 10 years denying it.

Trent, I just have to say that I love that you are keeping us up to date on the happenings of Mimi. It redeems some of the other *stuff* you publicize. And on another note- while there are lots of things to make fun of regarding MC, there is one that is above reproach- the voice, the voice, the voice.
Are you fo real Trent, i think she jsut GLOWS with the curly hair. It is her natural hair ain’t it. It’s good to see her just be herself really. I don’t think she’s attempting to be like/look like what she did back in the 90′s for popularity gain. Because majority of her buyers/fans these days are younger – so they wouldn’t exactly ALL know the old mimi.

I was at the taping yesterday and during every break Mariah’s hair lackey was primping her locks, so I guess she’s serious about the throwback hair. During the breaks, Mariah gushed about Oprah giving the best gifts and how she got these earring she was wearing and the “Legends” received such gorgeous earrings (I’m not sure if Mariah’s a “legend” or how that’s deteremined in Oprah’s mind – was that an Oprah show?), but I was like, “Awesome! Maybe we’re getting jewelry, too, since she’s going on and on about it.” And I thought we may get Mariah’s cd since she also mentioned at that point how amazing Oprah is at giving gifts. We got neither. We got the book. Which I guess is a gift that keeps on giving since I’m giving it to my mom.
Mariah’s husband (words that are easier to type than his real name btw) is wearing a nice suit. Thank god for her money.
