Katherine Heigl & Josh Kelley Show Off Their Newly Adopted Daughter

Meet Nancy Leigh Heigl-Kelley

Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs aren’t the only celeb couple showing off their new child today, happily marrieds Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley are also showing off the newest addition to their family. Katherine and Josh recently adopted a little girl they named Nancy Leigh, who they call Naleigh, and are happily showing her off to the world today:

Hollywood actress Katherine Heigl has issued the first photo of her newly-adopted daughter. The intimate picture shows the 30-year-old star in a close, loving embrace with husband, Josh Kelley, and 10-month-old Nancy Leigh, or ‘Naleigh’. Naleigh is a special needs baby, born in South Korea and she is named after Katherine’s mother Nancy and sister, Margaret Leigh. An insider told American magazine Us Weekly the fact that Katherine’s new baby has special needs will not be an issue. The insider said: ‘They are thrilled to have a child in their lives, no matter what the challenges.’ At this stage it is not quite clear exactly what Naleigh’s special needs are. Katherine completed the adoption of her new daughter this week after revealing she was soon to be a mother on Ellen DeGeneres’ chat show just last week. She revealed Naleigh’s special needs actually made the adoption process much quicker. Katherine told Ellen: ‘She is a special needs baby and because of that, it all moved so much faster. ‘They wanted to get her to us as quickly as possible.’ Heigl’s own sister was also adopted from Korea, and she said it’s something she had always wanted to do. In fact, the Knocked Up star admitted she was so set on adoption that she even made sure hubby Josh was ok with adoption before they were engaged. She said: ‘I just wanted to make sure that I was marrying a guy who understood that that was going to have to happen.’ Her spokesperson said: ‘Katherine, Josh and Naleigh are together and doing well.’

What a beautiful story … it’s always a joy to see new parents united with new children, whether those children are born or adopted into their new families. You can just see the love emanating in this happy family photo (even without all the added pink hearts). Much congrats and love goes out to Katherine and Josh on the addition of their new daughter! May they all enjoy a long and very happy lifetime of bliss together :)

That’s so wonderful the little sweetheart was adopted into a loving family. No matter what people think of Katherine as an actress, this shows who she really is as a person. Everyone’s been bitchy on the job one time or another. ;)

    Congrats to these two!

This is a beautiful and touching story. I’m glad to see a warmer and more selfless side of Katherine because she usually makes me want to run her over with my car. I’m touched that she is helping to make sure there is one less parentless child in the world by providing what I hope to be a loving and caring home.

  3. BriK

Beautiful story. Kudos to anyone who can adopt a special needs baby.

  4. Guest

  5. Krissy

They look very happy, I wish them all the best! I think she is setting a great example by adopting a special needs child.

  6. joanna

I find it wonderful when people can open their hearts and homes for children in need.
I am just wondering though, why it seems so many celebs adopt from other countries.? Isn’t there plenty of children in need in America? Is it easier to adopt from other countries?? I’ve wondered about that.
    She sure is a cutie.

What an ADORABLE little girl! I fully respect anybody who has the courage to take on children with special needs. They are such amazing children, but you definitely have to have a special kind of heart to watch the struggles they go through without letting it break your heart. I don’t think that is something I could emotionally handle taking on, so much love and respect to Katherine! What a beautiful new family! :)

This is a beautiful picture. I have always been a Katherine Heigl fan but I like her so much more now. It takes a special person to take on a child w/ special needs. Congrats to Katherine & Josh on their sweet baby girl!

joanna — I think there is a variety of reasons why people adopt from other countries…quicker, easier to find a young child, drawing attention to a region in need of help, etc. But I’m pretty sure I read that Katherine picked South Korea because she has an adopted sister who is also from South Korea. Katherine may tend to put her foot in her mouth, but this is a great thing she and her husband decided to do.

  10. Chloe

that is so adorable.lucky little girl

  11. It's All Good

DAMMIT this makes me like her!! What a beautiful baby girl! Congratulations to Katherine and Josh.

  12. kransyi

    cute baby

  13. Denise

I’m glad they gave the child a nice, normal name.

  14. Nicola

I really hate how all I’ve seen is criticism from nasty people about her adopting, as if it’s some publicity stunt. She seems 100% genuine about this adoption and I think it’s fantastic. Adoption in general is just a wonderful thing, for someone to love a child that isn’t biologically theirs is amazing.

  15. Leisha

Awww that is one cute picture!!

  16. Brooke

Oh, she is just darling! I am truly touched by this story.

  17. joanna

@Ally, thanks for answering my question. They look so happy too!

  18. Jenn

awww good for them. i hope she quits smoking so the baby wont either have a mom die of lung cancer or else get cancer herself!!!!

  19. bostonscrap

that’s admirable she is adopting a special needs baby…but she is still a self-absorbed, ungrateful and annoying individual. hopefully she’ll be a good mother…

  20. CHASE

The baby is amazingly cute. However, Katherine as a mom? Not sure. I mean, she looks extremely cold all the time and she doesn’t really seem to be natural and warm. At all. Not to mention she has a reputation of being a huge beyotch. Of course, I don’t know her and it isn’t fair to jump to such accusations but I hope she turns out to be a good mom. Cute.

  21. brenda

does that photo remind anyone of the Tom, Katie and Suri photo from Vanity Fair?

  22. She’s gorgeous!!
    Great on Katie Heigl :)

  23. Kim

As an adopted Korean (I’m 24 now, been in the us since I was 8 months) this makes me soooooo happy to see! I do not pay much attention to Katherine’s drama headlines because I do not care. But I think she and Josh must have huge hearts to share their lives with this adorable little girl. I wish them all the luck and love in the world for their future.
