Pop culture artist Dan Lacey has been inspired by US President Barack Obama to create a series of paintings that show our nation’s leader engaged in various fantastical acts which include saving Wall Street, saving impaired airplanes and riding unicorns … like this painting, for example:

When I first saw this painting of President Obama astride a mythical unicorn, I was reminded of the fun graphic that was created by THIS site (which features lots of NIN/Reznor inspired artwork) of Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor riding on a unicorn of his own:

There seems to a growing trend of incorporating unicorns in fun artwork like this … a trend that I endorse and support wholeheartedly. After the jump, check out a few more pieces of Lacey‘s Obama artwork — trust me, it’s not to be missed …

Here’s US President Barack Obama as a unicorn-riding superhero in these bizarre fantasy paintings by artist, Dan Lacey. Obama is seen astride the mythological beast in a series of different scenarios. In one he is seen wrestling a bear on Wall Street, while in another work the President can be seen alongside hero pilot Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger in the cockpit of US Airways Flight 1549 as it ditched into New York’s Hudson River earlier this year. Mr Lacey, based in Elko, Minnesota, has said of his work: “There’s a consistent demand for Obama, both for things that are funny and also for the serious.” He describes himself as a “disillusioned conservative”. He has also created a series of paintings of US politicians with pancakes stacked on top of their heads. Some of his artwork can be bought on Internet auction site, eBay.
Ummm … I believe the sentiment that you are looking for is, LOL, WHUT? Yeah, I don’t know that I really understand either but I do know that I LOVE IT ALL!! Personally, the Obama/Unicorn one is my fave … but they’re all really fun. Which one do you like best?

The image of Obama in the cockpit is my favourite because his entire body – from his fingertips to his tippy toes – is in SUCH a weird position.
Plus, in that image his bare bum kinda looks like it’s suffering from vitiligo so that certainly leaves me intrigued.
Wait, I think it is safe to say someone saw that play with Daniel Radcliff in it:)!!
wow lacey is a horrible painter those look like caveman
lisa-frank versions of the actually gorgeous obama. these are like propaganda for bestiality .
I’m not sure whether I’m disturbed, or a little turned on. :-)
Ria- paint your own then have Trent post them so we can see how you paint. You seem to know what makes a good painter- so show us.
why is he nekkid?!?!? idk, i GUESS it is cool. the first one i liked the others are just weird.
Is it just me, or are the unicorns pretty dang phallic? The top one is like Obama and the giant shlong!
omg, lol
K seriously, what the fuck? I don’t get it AT ALL and think it’s just plain creepy
@Ria! Touche to you! If you follow Katie’s logic, we must all be master chefs to have an opinion on the food we eat, perfume makers to know if something smells great or like ass, clothes designers to know if an aricle of clothing is crap or not….
@katie – your logic is full of holes ….
and IMHO these paintings are SHIT!
i wouldn’t necessarily call them shit but they aren’t something i’d pay a lot of money for…
Why is he naked? Is it a weird message trying to say that hes so awesome that he doesn’t need clothes?
I still think this might be my favorite piece of Obama art (even though it’s intended as a valentine).

Unicorn is such a weird word. The more I think about it, the more I’m like “WTF” and stuff. And why is he naked? This is too weird for me. PASS!
Art critic schmart critic… Do we need to hold our unicorn artists to such high standards? Lol.. “Omg that’s like the worst unicorn ever!”
Ugh! Things like this make me not proud to live in Minnesota.
On the other hand, great reference to pleatherface’s “Trent Reznor on a unicorn” picture! Had a feeling you wanted to find the right time and place to post it here.
@ria and ganesh- my point was more geared towards the harshness of rias words. Of course you have every right not to like the painting- but to say he’s a horrible painter is a bit much for me- how I read rias comment was that he as a person is a horrible painter instead of I think these paintings are horrible. As an artist I took offense to that since your skill is personal yet the work you create is subject to opinion. I guess my point is that I personally think you shouldn’t judge the artist, you should judge the art. It’s very possible my rambling doesn’t make sense but I felt the need to clearify where I was coming from.
@katie! i hear you! namaste! HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
@ganesh, Exactly what I was going to say. I took art classes for years, and I still don’t understand wtf Pisacco is famous for. Does that mean his paintings are now going to be garbage because I, the almighty art student, have passed my judgment? xD
And Its like, automatic fail when you post your school test stats on the internet during an argument. Good for you, you passed a class, welcome to the l337 group of everyone.
BoodyNeptune- The reason I brought up my art history class is because I was attacked for having no background knowledge or pretext for judging this art. Are you really mocking me for being a student?
Also, aside from my criticisms of the aesthetic qualities of these paintings, I feel it is inappropriate and disrespectful of the artist to portray the President of the United States in this manner.
