Yesterday we got our first look at a batch of promo stills from the new horror film The Wolf Man starring Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt and today we get to check out the first movie trailer released for the film. Altho The Wolf Man won’t open in theaters until February of next year, it’s clear the movie studio wants to get a jump on launching the promo machine now considering the movie’s release date has been pushed back by almost 2 years. Here is the trailer for The Wolf Man:
Universal Pictures has revealed the new trailer for director Joe Johnston’s The Wolfman, opening in theaters on February 12 … In the film, Benicio Del Toro stars as Lawrence Talbot, a haunted nobleman lured back to his family estate after his brother vanishes. Reunited with his estranged father (Anthony Hopkins), Talbot sets out to find his brother… and discovers a horrifying destiny for himself. Lawrence Talbot’s childhood ended the night his mother died. After he left the sleepy Victorian hamlet of Blackmoor, he spent decades recovering and trying to forget. But when his brother’s fiancée, Gwen Conliffe (Emily Blunt), tracks him down to help find her missing love, Talbot returns home to join the search. He learns that something with brute strength and insatiable bloodlust has been killing the villagers, and that a suspicious Scotland Yard inspector named Aberline (Hugo Weaving) has come to investigate. As he pieces together the gory puzzle, he hears of an ancient curse that turns the afflicted into werewolves when the moon is full. Now, if he has any chance at ending the slaughter and protecting the woman he has grown to love, Talbot must destroy the vicious creature in the woods surrounding Blackmoor. But as he hunts for the nightmarish beast, a simple man with a tortured past will uncover a primal side to himself… one he never imagined existed.
While intrigued by this new take on the classic horror monster, I’m not sure that the trailer really grabs me. I tend to bristle at period pieces and, to be honest, some scenes remind me of the HORRRRRRRIBLE film Van Helsing which stars Hugh Jackman and came out a few years ago. That stinker of a film really ruined so many of the classic Universal Pictures monsters (Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolf Man) that the memory of how bad it is seared into my brain :( I guess I was hoping to see more action in this first trailer. It looks like the love story will take center stage … I’m not sure that’s gonna do it for me. The movie is still many months away from release, we shall see if any future promo items will change my mind and get me more excited to see this film.

I love the idea, I love Benicio DelToro and the rest of the cast…but it looks so CLEAN in the trailer, it is a little weird. Don’t know – am interested, but doubt this will be enough to get me to a movie theatre. BTW, also can’t stand Van Helsing…even with Hugh in it…altho love the part at the end where he rips his shirt off (duh).
I can’t wait to see this, but they probably won’t let me bcuz i’m pregnant.. My mom is superstitious
this movie seems transparent. Obviously the father (Anthony Hopkins) is the werewolf.
This film also kind of reminds me of Sleepy Hallow which was kind of bad as well… It seems kind of cheesy and usually films with this time period of somewhat un-relatable because of the theme and the English unless it’s done in a really good way. Hmmmm.
boo-hoo! the new trailer pales in comparison to THIS one:

i’ve been waiting & waiting, but i’m a little disenchanted now…
i do loves me some Benicio tho – regardless.
The love story take center stage? Doesn’t sound too plausible in an FX ridden horror movie.
