Backstreet Boys Are Makin’ A Comeback

Backstreet's Back ... alright?

So … I’m not sure if y’all are ready for a boyband resurgence but one of the most successful boybands of all time (no, not *NSync) are making a comeback this Fall with a new album, a new tour and an attempt at that old magic formula that made them stars in the first place. Backstreet BoysNick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell and A. J. McLean — have announced that they will be releasing a new 11-track album titled This is Us on October 6 with a world tour to follow. Are y’all ready, cuz here they come ready or not:

From the press release: Backstreet Boys are very proud to announce the release of their new album, THIS IS US. Set for an October 6th release on Jive Records, THIS IS US is the seventh studio album from this groundbreaking and chart topping group that redefined the modern musical landscape, ushering in a chapter of pop culture that commandeered the world’s radio airwaves, broke music and concert sales records, and launched a new generation of teen idols. Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell and AJ McLean collaborated with a powerhouse suite of producers and songwriters on THIS IS US that included T-Pain, Max Martin, RedOne, Soulshock and Karlin, Jim Jonsin and Claude Kelly. The end result is an indelible and finely crafted R&B and pop album from four talented musicians who love what they do and who maintain the rare relevance in an industry that often disposes of pop acts. The 11 songs that make up THIS IS US are the sounds of four skilled singers with a similar vision, who have dealt with the trials and tribulations that accompany fame at an early age and who came out as one of the most successful groups of all time. From the undeniable dance floor ready lead single, “Straight Through My Heart” to the reflective soar of “Bigger,” from the hook crazy “Bye Bye Love” to the romantic yearning of “She’s A Dream,” THIS IS US shows remarkable growth as songwriters and continues to give us songs that has made millions smile. “We’re really excited to release this new album and know that our fans are excited too. We worked with a group of amazing artists and producers that we’ve never worked with before, exploring new sounds and territory and know the final product turned out incredible” says Carter. Backstreet Boys plan on spending the second half of 2009 and all of 2010 on the road. A European tour has already been announced and a full North American headlining tour will be announced shortly. Tour dates can be found on the group’s official website www.backstreetboys.com. Over the last 12 years, the Backstreet Boys have sold more than 76 million albums worldwide, have scored a dozen Top 40 hits and charted in the Top Ten in nearly every country making them one of the most successful groups of all time.

Just about 10 years after they conquered the PLANET, BSB are back again. I know there has been much talk in recent years about the return of *NSync (BSB‘s #1 competitors) but I haven’t heard any chatter about the return of BSB. The world of pop music is pretty different now than it was back in the boyband hey day but I suppose it’s possible that the boys, er, men could have another hit … mebbe two. After the jump, check out a few promo photos of the Backstreets working on their new album in the studio …

The first single, Straight Through My Heart, can be streamed in full on the official BSB website and/or official My Space & Facebook pages … they’ve also got an official Twitter profile as well. Heart has that BSB sound to it, sure to inspire and wake up the screaming teens slumbering inside all their old fans … which means it’s bound to be a hit on the Adult Contemporary charts ;) Now that BSB is back, mebbe *NSync will follow suit … and the battle of the boy manbands can get started up again! Wouldn’t that be fun? OK, fess up … how many of y’all are excited?

    me! me! me!!!

  2. Rennie

    Over it…

I’d RATHER see NSync back together. At least Justin Timberlake has talent.

  3. Kelcey

Well this isn’t a comeback at all. The guys released an album in 2005 & 2007. Both of which were successful, but unfortunately didn’t get the radio play like they should have.

Thrilled for the new album :)

  4. Jess

Are you kidding? Their tour last fall to promote “unbreakable” was totally sold out! I went and had an awesome time, they played the better newer stuff, which is reminiscent of their old stuff and a lot of classic old bsb songs. Kevin even came onstage during the encore. It was so fun.

  5. valchaos

    hey!!
It’s not a comeback!!They never go !!!!:S I saw them in montreal last year and what about album unbreakable??!!.When you say they do a comeback ,you make me very upset!!!!!i saw them in concert in 2008 ,2005,2001,1999,1998,1997,1996.and of course i gonna see the next new tour!!!So they never stop !!Let them the chane to do new music.

  6. J

    I’m excited – I love BSB!

  7. Sara

Yes I’m excited! They never stopped releasing albums, so it’s not like they’ve been gone for 10 years. And they’ve had very successful tours! Yay BSB!
On another note, it would be really nice if *NSYNC would release one last album! *sigh*

  8. Meghan

Umm….the boy band trend is over. Really they need to stop. At least change the name. Backstreet Boys is just ridiculous since they are most likely in their 30′s.

  9. M_Deezy

    booo!
    i agree with u @Rennie..
N*SYNC was better in my opinion.. plus BSB is missing Kevin

  10. Erica

it worked for take that,. but they had actually been broken up for years. they even did it w/out robbie williams. i wonder if nsync would be able to do w/out justin timberlake. good luck bsb.

  11. Kelcey

Why should they change their name? That’s just silly.
The Beach Boys never became the Beach Men.

  12. valchaos

What ??Nsync suck!!!!!!!They can’t sing .they have a very bad voice!!!Why bsb have to chance her name???!who care they have 30 and more now ???backstreet boys its the original name and this gave them so much succes!!!

  13. V

Sorry to sound cliche, but “don’t call it a comeback.” The guys have been around for years post Black & Blue days touring and producing albums. “Never Gone” in 2005 and “Unbreakable” in 2007. And they have toured endlessly in Europe, Asia, the Pacific Rim, South America, Canada, Mexico and here in the States since 2005. So there is obviously continued DEMAND for their music around the GLOBE. Technically, we could concede it as a comeback TO their ORIGINAL sound in terms of melodic harmonies and pop and R&B influences. I’m excited for this album and I can’t wait to hear what the guys have come up with.

@Meghan. It didn’t work for New Kids when they changed their name to NKOTB. Their career plummeted and officially called it quits for a long time before they ever reformed and came back as New Kids on the Block.

  14. shauna

OMG im so happy, i said to my sister the other day about concerts i need to see, and backstreet boys were one of them, im definitely seeing this time, hope they come to Ireland =D

  15. Ama

I dunno it doesn’t seem the same without Kevin :D Kidding, they are wonderful artists. For four different people, they can come together when singing wonderfully.

I was watching some show, I think it was Makeover home edition(or something like that) and this woman was raising seven girls who were almost all teens, and they lived in this small house. Anyways! One of the girls was a REALLY big fan of the Backstreet boys, and she made contact with them while they were on tour. They gave her a bunch of their clothing, and made a greeting video for her. It was really nice :)

  16. Roxster

I’m glad so many of you pointed out Unbreakable and Never Gone…Trent I’m shocked you seemed to have completely forgotten about those albums….they had a pretty successful tour for Never Gone. Unbreakable was iffier….they were playing state fairs in the US. But abroad they were still pretty big and doing concert venues…..I loved the BSB but they were more with ballads, they never had bigger “dance” hits like N’Sync did with Bye Bye Bye. N’sync probably had more of a marketable appeal, but BSB definitely had better harmonies and vocals.

  17. amanda

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

i love bsb… i still listen to them in my car … and i saw them last august, they came and did a concert here and girlicious opened for them…. and my mom drove AJ around and she didnt get an autograph for me….. >=|

  18. nicole

im happy. ive heard a handful of leaked tracks that surfaced…and there actaully realllllly good. not chessy like you would think. cant wait!

  19. Lana

Lol, some people don’t realize that BSB never even left. They have a huge following of diehards. I love BSB and I can’t wait til this album comes out! They always release great material! KTBSBPA!

  20. Melissa Lomeli

I loved BSB! I had posters up everywhere! I would still love them and would be at the concerts!

  21. Ashley

    BSB ROCK MY WQORLD

  22. Kayla

I have to agree with most people here, this isn’t a comback, their Never Gone album would have been a comeback. I wasn’t a huge fan of Never Gone but I loved Unbreakable (probably my fave BSB album which is saying something since I was just a tad obsessed back in the day). I’m hoping this new one will be more like Unbreakable and less like Never Gone but what I heard of the new single (I didn’t listen to all of it) I didn’t like so I’m nervous about that. Though, that doesn’t mean I won’t be getting the album the day it comes out…there is still a bit of that obsessed 12-year-old left.

  23. Melissa

Yeah they’ve been back since 2005, that’s when they made their huge comeback for their Never Gone CD and tour! I’m absolutely thrilled that they’re continuing to make music and I’m extremely excited for this new album.
And you’re right, Trent… they do bring out the screaming teenager inside of me. When I saw them last year for their tour for their Unbreakable CD… i seriously felt like I was 13 again and brought back memories of such a happiness and carefree time in my life. =) I can’t wait until they tour again!

  24. Lily

I’m with Kayla…. I didn’t like the first single… I’m not into that Eurodance music, but I’ll be getting the album October 6th (day of release) just like I’ve been doing since Millenium was released and every single BSB album since then, including Never Gone and Unbreakable!!!! There’s still a little 12 year old inside me itching to go to another BSB concert!! :-)

  25. Chivonne

Didn’t they try this already like last year or something? Not many cared then and I don’t know if enough will care this time around to really make a big difference. They were my fave tho ! N*sync was so lame to me hahaha

  26. Janice

I would LOVE Nsync to reunite. I don’t give a damn about BSB. :(

  27. This is not the decade for boybands. They should just rest, focus on their own careers.

  28. I can’t wait for this cd. I have loved BSB forever since their first cd. This isn’t really a comeback though because in 07 they had Unbreakable come out, and prior to recording this they were on a world tour.

  29. jen

It’s not a comeback because they never left.
I don’t think they expect to be as big as they use to be. They are just 4 guys who want to make music.

  30. Sue

lol Lady that’s not a “comeback” they never left, they’ve finished their “unbreakable tour” the end of 2009 and their last cd went out the end of 2008. U didn’t know maybe but there is not battle, they’re friends of Nsync, I think the music is all great and wonderful Pop, Rock, R&B country there is not difference. U’re not updated on who is doing music or not maybe, they’re still famous here in Europe and they’re not boyband they’re a music group it’s like if someone could say u’re like britney Spears or Avril Lavigne. bye glad to update u :)

  31. Sue

sorry I forgot they never broke up, and @ Reenie and
M-Deezy u need love girls and (hug) y make difference? the music is all great both the group can sing Gospel and that’s hard man. Both componets of group always have been friends y are u soooo bad? com’on the music is music, the music is everything. :)

  32. heather

I saw BSB last summer and it was INCREDIBLE! as long as there’ll be music they’ll be coming back againnnn

  33. Jessica

I love love LOVE BSB!! I went to two of their concerts last year….one in Regina Saskatchewan (where we were lucky enough to have front row seats…..I actually got to run my hand across Nick’s abs!!) and one here in Saskatoon Saskatchewan. I will definitely be going to see them on tour for this new album too!!

  34. kallisto

    gross.

  35. jill

yeah, not really a comeback. actually not at all. i saw them last year and they were good, not what they used to be, but not horrible. i just wish it was nsync that was reuniting. now that would kick some serious ass!

  36. Annoyed

I’m really annoyed at people rudely saying they don’t have talent. If you prefer Justin Timberlake, fine. That’s cool. But it doesn’t even pertain to the fact the Backstreet Boys are releasing an album. NSync are no longer together , so there’s no reason to even bring up the stupid old rivalry. The guys have absolute talent. Try watching them sometime, I suggest “A Night Out with the Backstreet Boys”. Perhaps then you could try and pull out the ego stick up your ass. They are releasing an album and still making music because they love what they do no matter the “success”, no reason AT ALL for being rude.

  37. la princesa

    Never cared for Nsync…it wasn’t a group–it was all Justin (who I still don’t like–he’s a pig!). I am curious about the new BSB. I liked Brian’s, Nick’s & AJ’s voices, w/Howie & Kevin harmonizing. Howie’s a cutie, too!

  38. Erica

I’m TOTALLY excited! I saw the unbreakable tour and they were awesome! So ready for another album from them!! Bring on the Boys!!!

  39. CHASE

They should just give it up already. It just kind of comes off as… weird?

  40. Carla

I’m not ashamed…….I can’t wait!! Still a fan all these years later!

  41. Leviana.

    Hey.

I’m ready for this album but it certainly isn’t a comeback. The boys have had more album releases then this upcoming release. “Never Gone” and “Unbreakable” were released in the past few years and had amazing hits on them that should have made the radio! A few of them did, of course, but I was hoping for more.

I’ve been to every concert in Toronto that the boys have had since their “Black and Blue” world tour and I am stooooked for the tour to follow this album.

I love the Backsreet Boys. They will never ever ever ever die! I’m probably the biggest most unashamed fan out there bahaha.

Give their new single a listen, too. It’s called “Straight Through My Heart” and let me tell you…it’s good ;) really good!

  42. Anita

Trent, just wanted to thank you for punctuating *N Sync correctly. :)

  43. Jennie

I’M SO EXCITED!!! :) I love them so much! :):):) KTBPA!!

  44. jane

    HOHHOHOHOHHOMY GAWDDDDDDDDDDD.

I love them so much, I went to their concert once, and I was on the front row and I got to hold Howie’s hand… oooh and Kevin’s abs! And their voices are out of this world… SOOOOOOO great! They are seriously the best boyband, or should we say, a music group. They sing really well!

    Gah, I LOVE THEM.

  45. J

Nsync do suck! They are pretty much only popular in the US. Nowhere else. Backstreet Boys actually conquered the WORLD! Where as Nsync just did the US.

People know of Nsync only cause of Justin, but yeah, Backstreet Boys are the, Kings of Boy Bands? Haha.

I wouldn’t necessarily call this a comeback neither. Just another album since their ’05 comeback. I mean there last album went head to head with Britneys Blackout & Blackout was a magnificent album (her best if you ain’t heard it ALL) but it didn’t perform that well overall. And lets say, Blackout beat BSB in first week sales so judging by Blackouts performance, you will probably know now how BSB’s last album sold.

  46. Sara

    Me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KTBSPA!!!!!!!

  47. Brynn

I am always ready for a bsb comeback, i went to their concert in september… and touched brians little boy! i gave him my glowstick to play with and his wife thanked me :) i was in front row beside stage. loveeee them forever and ever

  48. B

It’s funny how all the former boy bands are coming back together after Take That’s (not popular here but HUGE everywhere else in the world) phenomenal success.

  49. Lola

I agree that this isn’t a comeback, BSB never left. I saw them in concert just last year and they rocked it. I’ve been a fan since the beginning and I’m SO excited for the new album. I’m listening to Straight Through My Heart right now and I’m loving it!

  50. BSB never left! I went to their concert last Dec. and it was SO much fun! I’m loving their new single “Straight Through My Heart” I’ve had it on repeat for a few days now haha LOVE them!

  51. Viree

    WTF is this?

    @Erica
it worked for take that,. but they had actually been broken up for years. they even did it w/out robbie williams. i wonder if nsync would be able to do w/out justin timberlake. good luck bsb.

    LOL
