Mariah Carey‘s new album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel (which was announced on Twitter back in May) will not be released in stores until August 25 but TODAY Mimi will be releasing the first single from the album. Obsessed makes its worldwide premiere on radio later today … but here is our first look at the single’s cover artwork:

First came the emancipation, then came energy and power, and now comes MEMOIRS OF AN IMPERFECT ANGEL, the new album by international superstar Mariah Carey, scheduled to arrive on August 25th. The first new single pick from MEMOIRS is “Obsessed,” which blasts out to radio today, Tuesday, June 16th. The video for “Obsessed” will be directed by Brett Ratner. “Obsessed” was written and produced by Mariah, The-Dream and Tricky Stewart, who are responsible for the majority of tracks on the new album. MEMOIRS was executive-produced by Antonio “L.A.” Reid. MEMOIRS OF AN IMPERFECT ANGEL, the 12th studio album of Mariah’s career, is the eagerly anticipated follow-up to her RIAA platinum-selling album E=MC² (released April 15, 2008), and her worldwide 10 million selling The Emancipation Of Mimi (released April 12, 2005). Both were Soundscan #1 debut albums that made chart history for Mariah in the U.S. and numerous territories around the globe.
Homegirl needs a hit … here’s hoping Obsessed will be the Summer jam that she’s been lookin’ for. Mariah has tweeted that Obsessed is an “uptempo fun summer record” and that is just what I was hoping to hear. I’m a huge Mariah Carey fan — I’d love for her to add more #1s to her repertoire. I can’t wait for the single to drop and I am so happy to hear we won’t have to wait much longer for the album! I had heard that she would release it in august to beat the grammy deadline, but I wasn’t sure it would happen. Now let’s just hope the music is worthy of a grammy, or at least a nomination this time around.

If I put 1 and 1 together, the SINGLE cover (NOT album.. read, you dumb twatts) is meant to coincide with the single’s title, “Obsessed.” Clearly, the song addresses Eminem, in retaliation to his album cut “Bagpipes..”
the single is pretty good – i dont think it’ll hurt eminems feelings like she wants too – but i like it.

I like it, I gotta say, it’s not really what I was expecting… I was thinking a new club anthem for the summer… so it’s a little slower than what I was led to believe but It’s good. I like that Mariah can sort of reinvent herself when she feels she needs to… She should have sped it up a little bit though… there really is no new song out right now that gets you in the mood to go out and have a good time… I def gotta get this for my iPod though!

I am now offically obsessed with “Obsessed”! This single is amazing it should do well worldwide whether it gets to number 1, I’m not sure but I personal think its going to do well. Mariah has also stated that her new album is like doing the greatest hits without using any of her hits! This means that we are getting the old mariah back!!!!!!!!
Everyone who has listened to the album has said that there is lots of pwer ballads that will blow you away! So just and see what the album holds and if the songs in the album are as catchy as Obsessed then the “MEMOIRS OF AN IMPERFECT ANGEL” is going to be amazing!
Also just want to point out to all the haters out there that you are picking on someone who is sold over 200 millions albums worldwide! So I think Mariah knows what works and what doesnt! Also it just shows that your OBSESSED with mariah!
