The University Of Oklahoma Sooners Win The 2008 Big 12 Championship
I have to give a major shout-out to my boys in Crimson and Cream from the University of Oklahoma for their stellar performance on the football field yesterday. After a disappointing loss to the University of Texas earlier in the season, the OU Sooners have been workin’ their asses off to prove to the nation that they kinda rule the world. After last night’s CRUSHING DESTRUCTION of the University of Missouri (62-21), the University of Oklahoma became the Big 12 Champs for 2008 and should be going up against the University of Florida for the BCS Championship:

Sam Bradford and Oklahoma wanted to drive home one point: They belong in the BCS championship game. The No. 4 Sooners did that with a 62-21 blowout of No. 19 Missouri for the Big 12 title Saturday night. Taking advantage of an opportunity many felt it didn’t deserve, the highest-scoring team in major college football history romped to a third straight conference crown and became the first to reach 60 points in five consecutive games in 89 years. “We were tired about hearing everyone talking about how we didn’t deserve to be in the game,” Oklahoma quarterback Bradford said. “It was a big motivator for us. “I don’t see how we could not be No. 1 tomorrow.” No need to worry, two is just as good, and if all goes accordingly Sunday, Oklahoma (12-1) will be in the top two of the Bowl Championship Series standings, looking at a title game matchup against No. 2 Florida on Jan. 8 in Miami. Touted as the best two conferences in college football this season, it seems appropriate their champions will play for the national title. For Oklahoma and coach Bob Stoops, it’ll be their fourth appearance in a BCS national championship game. The Sooners won their first try in 2001 against Florida State, but have lost their last two — to LSU after the 2003 season and to Southern California after the 2004 campaign. The Sooners’ losing streak in BCS games overall is four, taking some of the luster off a coach who earned the nickname “Big Game Bob” early in his tenure. No one would argue with Big 12 Bob, though. Stoops improved to 6-1 in the conference title game. No other Big 12 team has won more than two in the 13-year history of the league. This one was over by halftime. By then Bradford had already put up Heisman-worthy numbers, with 240 yards and two touchdown passes, and the Sooners led 38-7. Along the way they zoomed past Hawaii’s NCAA record 656 points set in 2006. The Sooners kept trying to put up more points until the end. Chase Daniel and Missouri (9-4) never really had a chance. Oklahoma became the first team to score at least 60 in five straight games since Tulsa in 1919, STATS LLC said. “Sam Bradford again is just sensational,” Stoops said. “The defense really stepped up. We had a huge lead before they gave up anything in the second half.” Even Boomer and Sooner, the white ponies who pull the Boomer Schooner around after OU scores, cut out early. They took a short trot after Jimmy Stevens kicked a 30-yard field goal that made it 41-7 with 9:00 left in the third quarter and called it a night. Bradford, injured non-throwing hand and all, didn’t even have it that easy. He was still playing in the fourth quarter and finished with a Big 12 championship game record 384 yards. Expect the sophomore to be in New York next Saturday when the Heisman Trophy is handed out, along with fellow Big 12 quarterbacks Colt McCoy of Texas and Graham Harrell of Texas Tech. Maybe, Texas can beat Oklahoma in that competition. Surely it won’t make it any easier for the Longhorns to watch the Sooners, a team they beat in October 45-35, play for the national title. Oklahoma and Texas finished in a three-way tie for the Big 12 South title with Texas Tech, but the Sooners’ victory over Texas Tech, combined with Tech’s win against Texas, made head-to-head moot. According to Big 12 rules, the poll voters and computer ratings used by the BCS were left to break the deadlock, and the Sooners got the nod.
Nothing stokes the fires of my inner-jock like when one of my beloved sports teams (either from Detroit, MI or my alma mater the University of Oklahoma) does well in championship games and altho I don’t talk much about sports on the blog (mainly cuz I don’t know what the hell I’m talking about) I simply have to devote some time to profess my lurve for my beloved sports teams. Well done, Sooners! You guys have been kickin’ all kinds of ass this year … here’s hopin’ you’ve got one more ass-kickin’ left in ya to wind up this college football season at the top of the heap! Boomer Sooner, bitches!!!

Texas is the better team. Texas beat them fair and square and just because OU has “style points” doesn’t justify how effed up the BCS is. Texas got screwed, I hope Florida dominates and makes OU cry!

And Colt better get the Heisman!
December 7th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
Well, I hate MU so go, Sooners! Way to send the Tigers back to Columbia with their tails b/t their legs!
December 7th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
Trent, I love you, and I’m excited for you, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that you spelled “Championship” wrong.
December 7th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
Hey Trent, I hope you get used to eating your cereal from a cup since, as you know, sooners always choke in a bowl.
College football needs to go to a Sweet Sixteen type of system. There is no way that chokelahoma would be playing in the title game without the aid of the BS…oops! I mean BCS computers.
The fact that stoops left Bradford in all four quarters is a testament to his classless need to feed his ego.
Running up the score is the sign of a small penis.

Chokelahoma, awesome.
December 7th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Hahaha … these are some comments (some of which make no sense to me). All I know is I’m happy OU won the Big 12 and I’m rootin’ for them to win the big enchilada :)

As a University of Florida alumni and who will be traveling to Miami for the game, I just have to say GO GATORS!
The country will once again see the dominance and speed that we already know is there. I can see it now “Florida has now chance, Oklahoma will win”. Yeah and they said that 2 years ago when Florida killed Ohio State.
Congrats Trent, I know how awesome it is to see you Alma Mater win big. Good luck!

GATOR NATIONNNNNNNNNNNNN! I think that the best coach, player, offense, and defense MAY have a wee little something to say about those Sooners. But, I’m just saying. I’m an Auburn fan, but I ALWAYS wear orange and blue, so UF is my team for the post season.
December 7th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
GO OU!
I’m from Oklahoma, and very excited that OU won the big 12.
Hopefully they can go all the way and win the big one!

December 7th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
I’m a Longhorn fan. Hook em! Oh..and Go Gators!! Here’s to a split national championship.
December 7th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
bob stoops has no class and doesn’t teach his players a damn thing about good sportsmanship. Go Gators! It will be a pleasure to see them show ou how to play with true style, rather than by going for “style points”.
December 7th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
Trent, if you happen to be in the NY area around a bowl game, give a holler and you can watch it with a whole crew of displaced Sooners! We frequently enjoy a Corona and huddle around a radio to get Big XII coverage up here when there aren’t games aired here. I’m a Baylor Bear (I know, I know… very sad), but lived in OKC for 3 years while in law school at OKCU and am married to a Sooner. The Sooners have given me much more to be proud of than the Bears! :)
Go Crimson and Cream!
P.S. Please enjoy some more Chick-fil-a on my behalf…. I miss that soooo much….
December 7th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
they didn’t deserve to go to the Big 12 Championship. HOOK ‘EM HORNS… all of the BCS rankings were pointing to Texas and how Oklahoma snuck in is beyond me, so now I’m rooting for Florida for the championship!!!
December 7th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
oh yes… and don’t forget… COLT MCCOY FOR THE HEISMAN!!!
December 7th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
BOOMER SOONER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BRADFORD FOR THE HEISMAN.
December 7th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
right on sarah!! BCS it total BS!!! there is no way OU should have made it to the Big 12 champ game, UT kicked their butt, am i missing something??? one of these days they will go to a system that allows the rightful teams to be champions.
ok, im done ranting…
December 7th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
45-35 till I die.
December 7th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
You can say 45-35 ’til you die all you want. You can complain about getting screwed out of a higher ranking and not going to the national champ game. Still not going to change anything kids. The fact of the matter is, Oklahoma sells tickets and people would rather watch OU no matter what the circumstance. I mean seriously, who wants to watch fugly Mack Brown stomp around on the side lines? The game between florida and OU is going to be good. Fingers crossed Bradford takes home the Heisman and leads the Sooners to claiming the title of National Champs. Either way, I’ll be Sooner born and Sooner Bred. So Boomer bitches. Pick a team and quit whining! (To Trent: I totally love your blog, and it made me love it even more when I found out you were not only a proud Sooner fan, but a Chik-fil-a lover. lol!)
December 7th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Seriously, Chokelahoma? We have seven national titles! Boomer Sooner, Bitches, is right!
December 7th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Seriously? Bob Stoops has no class? Thats crazy talk! He is one of the most classy coaches around.
Just wanted to send Trent some Sooner lurve from Norman, OK!! Go Oklahoma Sooners!
Bradford for Heisman!!
December 8th, 2008 at 8:48 am
Ahem, lest we forget:
45-35. ‘Nuff said.
December 8th, 2008 at 9:46 am
TEXAS deserves to be there, but what can you do? 45-35, bitches!!! Oh, and I can’t wait for Chokelahoma to make it 0-5 in BCS bowls!!!!!! Go GATORS!!!!
December 8th, 2008 at 10:03 am
Go Gators! Bradford looks like he fell off the short bus!
December 8th, 2008 at 11:46 am
Alright, you want something, “Nuff said” ….Texas Tech.
December 15th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Running up the scoreboard? Is the team supposed to stop playing when they’re winnning? It’s not like they’re playing some jr high team; It’s the big 12 championship. Run it up, bitches! Don’t cry cause the Sooners are kickin’ ass.
Chokelahoma? The sooners are second to only notre dame as far as “modern era” National Championships. Choke on that, suckers.
GOOOOOO SOOONERS~!!
