And so … the official transition from The Hills to The City has gotten underway. Last night’s ep of The Hills was the first where we got to see the baton passed from Lauren LC Conrad (who, I must interject, has been such a non-character this season) to Whitney Port as the next generation of faux-reality television programming is born on MTV:

The drama in last night’s ep really centered around Whitney getting a job offer to work for Diane Von Furstenberg in NYC (which, of course, will be the central focus of the spin-off show The City … and we also know will be about as real as The Hills is) from her former boss Kelly Cutrone from People’s Revolution (who, it’s being reported, just signed a deal to get her own reality TV show). There were two minor side stories — one about LC‘s parents moving out of her multi-million dollar home and one about Stephanie Pratt dumping her pantyweight boyfriend. Honestly, I was entertained last night … not sure why but I liked it. After the jump, find out what sorts of hijinks went down on the ep titled Dream Boy, Dream Job …

So … The City gets introed in the ep’s cold open and we see Kelly Cutrone break the good news to Whitney — woo hoo! LC and Audrina Patridge hang out for the first time together at Audrina‘s new home and everything is great between them, as if all of their previous (fabricated) drama didn’t exist in the first place. Spencer Pratt counseled cajoled his little sis Stephanie to dump her boyfriend (and suggested that she go to a “nun’s … thing” instead of finding a new guy to replace the dud). LC and Lauren Lo Bosworth went back to Laguna Beach, CA to pack up LC‘s room because her parents are selling the house and moving out. Whitney went to NYC to meet with someone from DVF (a very expressive lady, to say the least) so that she could “interview for the position” and then she got to spend 5 mins. with her Aussie lover before flying back to LA. Yeah, a lot happened. I was most interested in the Whitney bits and the LC bits. Of course we know that Whitney will get the job so that’s a given … and it was fun to see LC packing up stuff from her room. But I don’t get what all the sadness was about … we watched her family move into that house on Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County. I don’t know that she really lived there much … except for that time period after she bailed out of college in San Francisco and went home to LB with her tail between her legs in the third season of Laguna Beach. If anything, I’m even more looking forward to watching The City … we need a new town and some new people. The Hills was a lot of fun but it really is time to move on now.
That being said, I really do hafta know about the Speidi wedding … I’ll be tuning in for that, fo’ shizzle. But … yeah … bring on The City already.

I loved the over-the-shoulder dubbing they did of Spencer’s sister when she was “breaking” up with her boyfriend. Wonder what she really said. This show is getting worse each week. I used to be a huge fan but it’s starting to blow… hmpfffff :(
Guess I’ll be switching to The City and leaving The Hills.

Did anyone notice that the right side of Whitney’s hair was up in a barrette, then down in a couple of shots when she’s talking to her new man in NYC? So I guess they had to do a few takes when she met up with him for 5 minutes??
I just wonder what’s with the focus on the DVF lady’s shoes, and Whitney’s shoes. yea they are pretty, but why do we have a shot of the DVF lady’s shoes as she walks down the stairs, and then a shot of both their legs and shoes during the interview?
all in all, can’t wait for a whole new city and “new chapter” (according to Lo).
