The ‘GI Joe’ Movie Gets A New Poster

And a bad teaser trailer review
December 12th, 2008

Here is our first look at new poster artwork for the forthcoming live-action GI Joe movie Rise of Cobra. As you may recall, we got to see a lot of photos of the GI Joe cast in full costume earlier this year and it looks like some of those photos were used in the creation of this movie poster. Additionally, a teaser trailer for the film is being test marketed and, well, unfortch the news isn’t good … in fact, the footage reviewed HERE claims that it is “worse than horrible” — Ouch!

I just came from a “test screening” of the first teaser trailer for “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra.” What can I say about it? Well, it was horrible. No, actually it was worse than horrible. The trailer begins with some jets zooming by and dropping some bombs. Then we see Dennis Quaid as Hawk talking to members of a new elite fighting force he says has been put together to fight terrorism. We see a couple of terrorist attacks, some G.I. Joe guys dressed like Snake Eyes jumping out of a plane, and the Eiffel tower being toppled by what looks like some green ooze. Next we see some quick shots of a number of characters like Scarlett, Channing Tatum’s Duke on a motorcycle, Sienna Miller as the Baroness sliding down a staircase railing, and a quick shot of Snake Eyes and Stormshadow fighting. About the Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow fight … it looks about as bad as a fight from the “Double Dragon” movie from the early 90’s. Finally we get another quick editing job of some action sequences that go by really too quick to make anything out, and then finally there is this really lame sequence featuring some horrible CG work, as a couple of rockets are launched at some Joes dressed again to look like Snake Eyes. They do this dive/twirl through mid air where they some how avoid the rockets as they swirl by. The “G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra” title appears on screen followed by “Summer 2009.” In all the trailer was about a minute long. I was told they are testing the trailer for debut as a possible Super Bowl commercial. There was no footage of Destro, Zartan, or Cobra Commander. More than likely because they look so bad, based on the above described footage. From the trailer, it looks like this is going to be a horrible movie. Way too cheesy for my taste anyways. So I suspect that the Super Bowl is when we will be seeing this first teaser trailer.

While news of this review is a bit disappointing, I think I’ll reserve judgment until I’m able to see this footage for myself. I mean … I want GI Joe to be an awesome movie but I suspect there’ll be a bit of cheese in the mix as well. I mean, HELLO!, the GI Joe/Cobra weapons fire laser beams, y’all … that’s cheesy. I’m really not looking for Oscar-caliber performances from this movie, I just want a fun flick that will revive the nostalgic feelings I have for GI Joe. Watching Channing Tatum running around in black, body-hugging spandex-like materials is also something I’m looking forward to seeing as well. Honestly, this review doesn’t really make the movie sound that bad at all … I say, let’s wait until we can see some footage for ourselves before making any disparaging remarks about this movie. Yo, Joe!

I posted the review because, except for the bits where the reviewer said he didn’t like it, the review overall didn’t make the movie sound so bad

The poster you have above is not an official poster released by the movie. It is a completely unofficial poster created by a fan back in June. Here’s a link to it in Channing Tatum’s official site photo gallery:
