Nicole Kidman is one of the few celebs I really like. I’m so happy for her that she was able to have her baby. And I saw “Australia” last Friday and really enjoyed it!!!

believe me, aboriginal people are still treated pretty badly in australia. the conservatives here dont even acknowledge the atrocities committed against these people, its disgusting. there is a very big segregation between the aboriginal community and the “white”/other nationalities.

anyway, im really looking forward to seeing this. im a proud australian, so its exciting to see this movie out there! but i agree, strictly ballroom was baz’s best.

nicole doesnt see her kids because of tom’s scientology beliefs. i think he has put restricted access or something.. i remember reading an interview with nicole who was really saddened about her kids being pushed into it by tom.

I like Australia. I don’t want to see it again, but I enjoyed it. The boy is amazing!

I think Scientology maybe the factor between Nicole and her two older kids. But, I also agree that I think her kids do visit but they’re just not as photographed as egocentric Tom Cruise likes; in the recent pics of the Cruises and Beckhams the older kids looked really bored and over it.

Agree, I was cold just looking at how Sunday was dressed!

i thought Australia was amazing! it was really interesting to find out about the bombing of darwin and about how aboriginal people were treated.
but also, it was a really exciting and interesting storyline and even though it was long, it didnt feel like it, i didn’t look at my watch once. i don’t think it was “contrived”, that’s just the type of film it is, it’s an epic journey/love story, not some weird obscure psychological drama.
and it’s not shallow, it tells an important story and has heaps of layer of meaning… like the emphasis placed on the value of story telling to the aboriginal people, and so when they’re displaced they loose their connection to the land, and their history and culture. and this is also baz saying how it’s important to make movies to tell stories that need to be told.
and i don’t care what other people say, i thought nicole kidman was great! the part really suited her and she was so motherly yet tough. and hugh jackman was hilarious. and hot. i could have watched 3 hours of that shirtless bucket scene! and the little kid was fabulous!
and the scenery was amazing! i want to go there!! and the cinematography was great, all very baz.

so yes, definitely see it!

i live in belgium so the weather here is pretty much the same as in france… my little toddler is dressed as if ready for the north pole, it is chilly here!! unbelievable that there is no one around these people who says ‘stylish or not, this girl needs a hat and coat!’

I think Australia’s marketing people got ahold of this…. I thought the movie was awful. Totally contrived. Utterly shallow. On the good side Hugh Jackman is so very hot. He is a supremely sexy man. But I really hated the movie. If you loved Moulin Rouge, however, you might like this too. I thought that movie was pretty sucky as well. I think his wife is extremely talented and so his movies look amazing, but I can’t stand his story-lines or style of story-telling. Strictly Ballroom was his best, then Romeo & Juliet, and then it just gets worse and worse in my opinion. But I do know people who liked this one, so it’s definitely a matter of taste.

I thought it was beautiful and I loved the main kid character…but I didn’t think there was enough character development for such a long movie. Did I say it was long? It had several endings.
I’m a huge Hugh Jackman fan, and unfortch it wasn’t enough of a fix. Gonna have to see “Someone Like You” again… :)
I would say it’s worth a matinee

Loved Austraiia!! Almost didn’t see it because of the nay-sayers but went ahead and am so glad I did. I honestly didn’t think it felt long at all and didn’t think it was slow. Hugh Jackman is usually hot but he is so so hot in this movie. Go see the movie!! You will really be glad you did.

Ok, I must agree that it drives me NUTS to see kids dressed improperly for cold weather while their parents are all bundled up. However, some kids just will not keep on hats/gloves/scarfs! The only time my son tolerated a hat was when he was newborn in the hospital and couldn’t figure out how to get it off yet. From that time on until he was almost 3, he would wiggle, scream, or yank until he got the hats off and I was the one getting the “bad mommy” looks so I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.

I’ve often wondered where the oldest two kids were in all the pictures of Suri and now Sunday Rose. All I can hope is that there is more to their relationship with their parents than what we’re shown in paparazzi photos.

I absolutely loved the movie Austrailia. It is one of my all time favorites now. I never thought much of Hugh Jackman or Nicole Kidman as actors before but this movie is amazing. Yes, its long but it’s an epic story. I didn’t mind. There is something in here for everyone. And Hugh Jackman absolutely deserves sexiest man alive. You must go see it, it is soooo good. I’d love to hear your take on it.
Also, why do we never see Nicole with her two other children? When they are photographed they are always with Tom and Katie. I get the feeling they’re not that close with their mom. And its sad cause she is their mother.

you are sooo right! i looked at that picture and thought: duh, if you have to wear a scarf and jacket and you are an adult..that kid should have a hat on at least. a good amount of heat is lost from an adult head…but a baby’s head is that much larger proportionally. they need a baby nurse or nanny to educate them.

Australia is wonderful. Comedy, Drama, Romance, Western, History, and Social Commentary all rolled into one. As citizens of the United States we are familar with Pearl Harbor, but many of us know nothing about Darwin, Australia and the movie is set just before the bombing of Darwin. Actually, we know very little about Australia at all and this movie entertained and taught us something! My family saw the movie Thanksgiving night in a packed theater with an audience that loved the movie. You MUST watch the perfomance by Brandon Walters, a young man and first time actor who will touch your heart with his performance. To top it off, Elton John sings at the closing song. Don’t believe the critics, judge for yourself and see it with an open mind and heart.

Talk about a frickin brain trust. They are all covered up in coats and scarves and their kids are hatless, gloveless, coatless, and left to freeze.

I may not be a billionaire, but my kid is covered.
