Seeing Is ‘Believe’ing

The TV Guide
December 13th, 2008

Last night David and I arrived in Las Vegas, NV a couple of hours after Darion did (stupid me booked the wrong flight times to coordinate with Darion) but we managed to get together without any problems. Darion, my hero, managed to secure really great rooms for us and did an amazing job planning out our time here in Sin City. I have to say, tho, that I was very surprised at how dead Vegas is these days. Usually, the airport is teeming with people but last night, it was really very empty. The casinos and streets, too, are devoid of people … it’s kinda sad. But, we had fun last night nonetheless. After a quick bite to eat at the Luxor Hotel and Casino, we made our way to the newest Cirque du Soleil show Criss Angel: Believe which is playing exclusively at the Luxor:

The show is really unlike any other Cirque du Soleil shows. Because it’s centered around Criss Angel and his magic act, the show has a much different feel from the other Cirque shows. I was very impressed with the staging and much of the performance but, to be honest, the show is a bit self-indulgent. The premise is that the show takes place inside the mind of Criss Angel — and there is some freaky stuff in there. Some of the costumes are very creepy but beautifully so. I’ve always been impressed with Angel’s illusions and he really delivers in this act. While I feel that there are portions of the show that need some tweaking (ie. the banter that Criss provides thruout the show kinda takes away from the imaginative experience of the show) I’m sure that fans of Criss Angel will love Believe. Interestingly enough, Wade Robson (who is directing Britney Spears’s upcoming tour The Circus starring Britney Spears) is the show’s choreographer … which makes sense cuz I really liked the dancing. Overall, I can see why some folks may not like the show (ie. the self-indulgence) but if you take the show for what it is — a Criss Angel spectacle — I think you’re in for a good time.

I have to send out special love and thanks to Lisa (pictured below), John and Jessica for taking such amazing care of us last night:

We had an absolute blast!! I also ran into Pink reader Sarah while we were in the Luxor casino, it was so great meeting you!!

Tonight, we’ll be at Planet Hollywood to see NIN on the last night of their Lights In The Sky Over North America Tour … I am excited BEYOND belief. Tonight’s show promises to be the best of the tour … I can’t wait to tell all y’all about it tomorrow :)

I saw a few Cirque shows here & there – on TV, only way to afford it – & they’re breathtaking! But it was circus… & I’m long over that. I was wondering if anybody saw the Beatles’ inspired 1: LOVE? What was that 1 like?

Until 1 of my nephews was a kid & had to be dragged kicking & screaming to old-style circus performances, I really thought I was the ONLY 1 (as a child) who never enjoyed them. I had zero interest in the animal parade, the clowns, jugglers, high-wire acts, trapeze acts, etc. But my heart did warm to see him that 1st time we were both… for lack of a better word, forced to attend 1 as a family unit, & he just sat indifferently until the end.

He’s the BEST player his hockey team’s got – STRONG too. And to think – Growing up on peanut butter, pickles (with brine!) & sardines. He ate NOTHING else for the 1st 6-8 years of his life… That kid grew, though, & his doctor said he’d add more foods to his diet when he was ready… Thankfully he has & he just loves playing hockey.

Nobody has any extra cash to travel anywhere in this economy…so no wonder the airport and streets are dead. Normal people are trying to scrape by to have a Christmas for their children this year!

  6. Candice Says:

My friend is in that Criss Angel show!! that’s so cool :)

  7. Warmsun Says:

The Cris Angel show is crap. I do know some people that have seen it and it’s a hotly discussed show on some Vegas boards (and the only thing that’s hotly debated is exactly HOW bad it is). If anyone is planning on seeing it, be sure to get the (easily available) 60% off coupons and do it soon. Three months from now, it will not be around.

  8. Chelle Says:

Love the change back to your regular hair colour. :o) Much more flattering.

  9. Brenda Says:

Great hair! Much cooler look for you — but can’t blame you for wanting to be a blond for a while.

  10. Melanie Says:

Thank you for coming to Vegas! Our tourism is very much down these days.

  11. anyia Says:

    ur hair is black/brown!!!!
im srry to say i was not lovin the blond :( :(

we went to BeLIEve and had an absolutely horrible experience. I can’t really comment on the show as my friend was being physically and verbally threatened by the people sitting beside us and I spent most of the show trying to get an usher or security guard to come over and help us. We were beside a rail and would have had to walk infront of the jerks harassing us. Anyway I was very disappointed but Holly Madison was sitting infront of us.

Vegas is usually dead in December…except for the Rodeo and December boxing match…almost all the cirques are closed during that time as well.
