Ricky Martin & Twins Do ‘People En Español’ Magazine
Ricky Martin, who became a father to a set of twin boys back in August by way of gestational surrogacy, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of People en Español magazine. Unfortch, Ricky and his babies are not featured on the cover of People magazine (that honor was left for a coverstory about Tom Cruise’s Life in Pictures) but Ricky and his twins are featured inside the new issue of People. Here is Ricky and sons on the cover of People en Español and a portion of the interview from People magazine … say hello to Matteo and Valentino Martin:

Born via surrogate in early August, Ricky Martin’s 4-month-old twin boys make their debut in this week’s issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday. A joyful Martin, 36, spoke candidly with PEOPLE at home in Puerto Rico about his desire to be a parent, the decision to seek the help of a surrogate and juggling caring for twins – he has no nanny!
Describe this time in your life
I’m so happy! Everything they do, from smiling to crying, feels like a blessing. Being a father feels amazing. This has been the most spiritual moment in my life.
How hands-on are you as a father?
I don’t have a nanny. I’m doing this on my own because I don’t want to miss a moment. I have a personal assistant who helps me, someone who takes care of me while I’m taking care of them, but I’m the one who changes the diapers, the one that feeds them, the one that bathes them, the one that puts them to sleep. For any parent, the first couple of months tend to get a little bit intense.
Why did you choose to become a parent via surrogate?
Adoption was one option, but it’s complicated and can take a long time. Surrogacy was an intriguing and faster option. I thought, ‘I’m going to jump into this with no fear.’
Tell us about Valetino’s and Matteo’s personalities.
Valentino loves to sleep. I call him ‘Mr. Peace and Love’ because he’s so chill and serene. Matteo is more alert and active. He was up at 3 a.m. the other night and just hanging!
What is your philosophy on raising your sons?
I love to read books to my sons and tell them stories. I play music for them so they develop their own personalities. I want to give them information and raise them with honesty and love, and give them self-esteem and a lot of acceptance.
HMMM … doesn’t this story sound awfully familiar? Remember when we learned that Clay Aiken became a father by artificial insemination? Yeah. And we all know what happened shortly after that baby was born. I’m just sayin’ … In any event, much congrats to Ricky on the birth of his beautiful twin boys. They really are darling. Curious that there has been NO MENTION AT ALL about the woman who gave birth to these babies. Personally, and pardon the rant, I think it’s kinda crappy that Ricky, Matteo and Valentino weren’t able to get the cover of US People magazine. I can’t believe a coverstory of Tom Cruise’s personal pictures was deemed more worthy of the cover. The Cruise story seems like such a throw-away story, one that could be used when there is really nothing else going on. BUT, at least Ricky and his boys got the cover of People en Español … that’s something, right? Click HERE to see one more pic of the Martin men. Ricky looks great as Mr. Mom. Now, if only there were one other announcement that he would make about his personal life … ;)

How awesome will it be when he finally makes the great leap (out) forward?!

His boys are gorgeous! I wish them nothing but the best. And if Ricky is gay, I hope that he chooses to live openly honestly with his boys.

Am I the only one who finds him far less creepy than Clay Aiken??
December 10th, 2008 at 10:01 am
His sons are beautiful.

F…I think Clay is Creepy too! As far as Ricky is concerned…we knew long before he decided to get artifical insemination.

His boys are so cuuuuuuuute! He can be my donor ANY day. And tsk, tsk, Trent…I’ve know of/about Ricky since Menudo via mutual acquaintances. He’ll do it when he’s ready. ;) See this: “I want to give them information and raise them with honesty and love, and give them self-esteem and a lot of acceptance…”

Well if he wants to be honest he will need to admit to the world who he is. He still looks sexy…I wonder when he pleasured himself if he used straight or gay porn lol….

aww so chubby <3 and the blue eyes ..wow they stand out. more cute babies for the world..i love it!

I say lets start the count down till the surrogate pops up wanting rights or $…
Not to rant myself, but its so hard to swallow Rick’s “spiritual” shit! I’m aware penetration is considered a highly spiritual moment – but he didnt do any for these two. It was a cup brother-man.

I love Ricky. However, I was aware of him way before he became famous in the U.S. (I’m Colombian so I grew up with his music). To me, he will never be as creepy as Clay Aiken. I agree that he may have a secret he is hiding, but I agree, he will come out when he is ready. I think it is much harder for someone to come out who was raised in the Latin American culture.

He’s hot, and those babies are SOOOO cute!!!

The kids are cute, but I completely forgot he had sons. And I imagine a story will be coming out about him soon

I’m thinking that the reason he’s not on the cover is that he’s not prepared to talk about the story behind the story of why there’s no woman in the picture. I know that celeb mags sometimes have to negotiate what they can ask celebs but a story about these kids in which Martin’s is refusing to answer why he didn’t just get with a woman would be too much.

I’m always surprised when people suggest Ricky is gay because that’s how I (have) always thought of him. Funny eh.
December 10th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
ricky is such a hotie… if he is a gay it be such a lost for us girls =(
December 10th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
And why is there a connection between artificial insemination and homosexuality? If I’m not mistaken, Clay did it so a woman could have children. Ricky, vice versa. He doesn’t have a female partner, but he wants children. WHat’s wrong with that?
I will be pleasantly surprised when one’s sexuality does not define a person. Any news about Clay Aiken, and people immediately start talking about him being gay (or before he was out, potentially being gay.)
Same with Ricky Martin (in the US at least). It’s annoying that people are waiting on him or any other celebrity to come out. Straight people don’t have press conferences to announce their heterosexuality, so why should gay people?
It’s sad that a story about a man with two beautiful baby twin boys has to get sidetracked by his questionable sexuality.

Personally I think kids need a mother and a father.

I’m never sure why Clay gets the creepy tag. Honestly. He does a lot of work for inclusion of special needs kids, UNICEF work, including going to some pretty scary ass places, has raised a ton for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids, under the radar work for charities, he’s educated, talented, seems like a reasonably nice guy. Creepy doesn’t seem to fit. Maybe he isn’t everyone’s cuppa but what exactly has he done to warrant the creepy? Just asking. There are lots of peeps out there that should be tagged that way but Clay…not so much, imo.
Rickey’s babies are gorgeous. As to his private life…if there’s anything he wishes to tell it should be in his own good time.

JJ, there are many different families that raise well rounded, stable, happy, honest, loving human beings. An open heart is something to strive for. Maybe you should look into that….
December 10th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
Not sure if he’s gay or not (not that it matters) but heterosexual single men are quite frequently turning to surrogacy these days too.
And on the “no mention of the surrogate” issue, many high profile surrogate mothers have to sign non-disclosure agreements; I’m sure this arrangement was like that.
December 10th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
I love that he went with surrogacy! It’s great to see a guy who just loves his kids, and whether he is gay or not, his kids are adorable and I’m happy for him.
December 11th, 2008 at 12:17 am
Just because he says he went with surrogacy, doesn’t mean there’s no woman in the picture … The surrogate could very well have been a close friend (who also wanted a child) and has everyday contact. He would never name the mother publicly as she would become tabloid fodder, like the mother of Clay’s child.

I don’t care if he comes out or not, dude..those babies are probably the cutest things I’ve ever seen.
