No Doubt About It, ‘Doubt’ Is An Incredible Film

So … last day was my last spent as a blonde as I had my dear friend and hairstylist Josh cut and re-color my hair back to brown. I feel like the blonde is a nice summer look … and I’m kinda tired of fried hair. So, of course, he had to refry my hair but with darker color ;) Ah well, when next I cut my hair things should be totally back to normal. Last night, David and I weren’t really interested in much other than watching Survivor: Gabon (OMG, Kenny is going DOWN!) and the new Meryl Streep film Doubt (based on the play of the same name). Folks, Doubt is pretty damn good … mostly because of the acting performances turned in by Meryl, Amy Adams and Philip Seymour-Hoffman:

Hands down, Meryl Streep is the best thing in this film. If she doesn’t get nominated for an Academy Award, I’ll sue. In fact, if she don’t win the award for Best Actress, I’ll double-sue. Amy Adams and Philip Seymour-Hoffman were also very good in their roles, I suspect they’ll garner noms as well. These players make the movie seem so effortless — the so wholly become their characters, it was a wonder to watch. You can tell that the movie is based on a play as it has that feel but the story is so compelling, I was enraptured. Meryl’s character, Sister Aloysius, is basically the epitome of evil. She lives to find the worst in everything and refuses to even consider the good. That she is a nun only makes her character even more dastardly. Of course a character like this has her faults (ie. she sees no problem using lies to find out the truth — and feels justified in doing so) and that makes her even more deliciously evil. I really love how the movie ends with a cloud of uncertain doubt … did he or didn’t he? Just brills. I wholly enjoyed this film … I only wish I had been able to see the play beforehand. I’m gonna have to see a production of it as soon as I can. Meryl really makes this film … it really is a tour de force.

This afternoon, Darion, David and I are jetting off to Las Vegas for the weekend … we’re seeing Criss Angel’s Cirque du Soliel show tonight and then will be seeing NIN at Planet Hollywood tomorrow night. Wee!! Should be fun … I’m sure they’ll be pix to come.

I love Meryl but for the love of God would someone please give Kate Winslet an oscar already, she’s been nominated five times but never won.
    I’m starting my campaign now.

  2. Mr. Gyllenhaal Says:

  3. Roxster Says:

I can’t wait for Doubt! I’m so glad Amy Adams is getting great reviews…I’ve been a fan ever since she appeared on The Office.

  4. Avi Says:

Kate W will get her Oscar, I’m sure.

  5. lyndyloo Says:

She should have got it for little children, ok the movie wasn’t exactly a box office success but Kate’s performance was so beautiful it made me want to cry my eyes out.

  6. Lita Says:

See this movie! I actually saw a small production of the play in Jacksonville Florida and it was outstanding. Interesting subject matter.

  7. Roxster Says:

OMG Avi being positive? Thats like a K Stew smile! someone take a screen shot!! haha jk, I always welcome your critiques. Dissension isn’t a bad thing.

  8. Casey Says:

I, too, am interested in this film.

it sort of makes me mad how much of an under dog Meryl Streep is. I feel like she doesn’t get the credit that she deserves. Don’t get me wrong, but, I find it funny how Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts, and Reese Witherspoon are the most top paid actresses in Hollywood yet, Meryl Streep isn’t and has won more Oscars and is by far a better actress than most of the female top ten paid actresses.

    it kind of isn’t fair.

  9. Avi Says:

    xooxxooxoxoxoxxox

  10. Roxster Says:

Casey — very valid point. But unfortch a big factor is also the marketability of a star. Nicole, Julia, and Reese are celebrities as unwilling as the three of them are. They make headlines for sneezing. Meryl is an amazingly accompished actress and a star and basically deserving of any accolade I could think of, but nobody really cares in that same sense. Those three make good money and are talented, but they’re def not held in the same esteem as Meryl Streep

  11. nick Says:

wow thanks for telling us how the film ends!

  12. Sharon Says:

If Meryl Streep doesn’t win an oscar this year then there is something wrong with the world. Go Meryl!!

  13. B. Says:

I saw the play on Broadway and it was amazing. I can’t wait to see the movie. I am glad you thought it was great.

  14. beth Says:

YES YES YES you will look so great again without blonde hair.

  15. Dave Says:

Meryl is good, but Viola Davis STEALS the movie from Meryl Streep! See it, and you’ll see. Yes, PSH and Amy A are great too.

  16. Kay Says:

This was filmed at my school! The College of Mount Saint Vincent in RIverdale Bronx, NY….it was crazy always having all those movies trailers everywhere and seeing people dressed like the old school nuns lol

  17. Rome Says:

This movie sucked! The acting was great especially Philip Seymour Hoffman. The mother of the child, I dont know her name, was excellent! This wasn’t Meryl’s best performance. She was good though. This won’t win Best Picture, in fact I dont think it should be nominated.
