‘New Moon’ To Bring A New Jacob Black?
Now that the biz of selecting a new director for the Twilight movie sequel has been settled, the next step is to go about the biz of casting New Moon. With a new director comes the feasibility that character roles may be recast and actors who were hired to play a role in one movie may be axed from playing that same role in the next movie. Specifically, the role of Jacob Black — who undergoes a lot of change from Twilight to New Moon and plays a very significant role in the sequel — is, apparently, up for grabs as new chatter suggests that Taylor Lautner (the actor who portrayed the young Jacob in Twilight) may be replaced by a different actor. Enter Michael Copon, a beefy-looking actor best known from the film Scorpion King 2, who is said to be up for the role of Jacob Black which would thereby leave Lautner out in the cold. Additionally, Ben Barnes (who played Prince Caspian in the Chronicles of Narnia sequel) is said to be interested in playing a member of the powerful vampire “family” the Volturi. It sounds like production on New Moon is already getting into full swing and these decisions are likely to be made very soon:

Following last week’s dismissal and replacement of Catherine Hardwicke, this weekend began with a press release from Summit Entertainment officially appointing “New Moon” director Chris Weitz to the job. Suspicious in its omission of Taylor Lautner, the release seemed to all but confirm Twilighter whispers that Hardwicke won’t be the last “Twilight” talent replaced before the sequel. So where does the series go from here? MTV News can confirm that 26-year-old “Scorpion King 2″ actor Michael Copon [pronounced "COPE-on"] is one of several actors Weitz is considering to play the new, larger Jacob Black. A representative for Copon told us that they’re making a full effort to land the high-profile gig. And in a bit of 21st-century self-publicity, the actor has even recently updated his Facebook status with messages like: “Michael Copon [is] in a Twilight Zone!” and “Michael Copon is the older Jacob Black!” Copon’s representative confirmed to MTV News that the Facebook page is run by the actor himself and that those are indeed his words. Approached for comment on Lautner’s omission from the “New Moon” press release, Summit confirmed that it was not a typographical error. “The casting decision in regards to the character Jacob Black has yet to be made,” a representative told MTV News.

But even once Copon (or whoever else) is officially announced as the new Jacob, Weitz still has many other key casting decisions to make and an extremely brief amount of time in which to make them. With barely 12 weeks until cameras are due to begin rolling, the “Golden Compass” filmmaker needs to find faces to portray several key characters — including the peace-keeping, Italian vampires known as the Volturi. With the buzz building for these roles, MTV News has confirmed that 27-year-old “Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” heartthrob Ben Barnes is throwing his hat into the ring. The actor is already quite popular with the “Twilight” fanbase and shares the same manager as both Copon and “Twilight” star Cam Gigandet. Barnes is believed to be campaigning for the role of Aro, a mind-reading vampire whose “New Moon” encounter with Edward and Bella helps shape their destiny together.
I mean, I get that sometimes characters have to be recast but something about giving Taylor Lautner the shaft and bringing in a new person kinda irks me. I really think that Taylor can do the job of playing Jacob in New Moon and I would love to see him be allowed to continue playing the part. That being said, I think his Michael Copon guy looks like he would make a pretty good older Jacob Black — in fact, he looks very much like an older and muscly version of Taylor Lautner himself. I would bet money that Ben Barnes will get the role of Aro and I’m sure we’ll be hearing very soon who else is up for playing other Volturi characters. New Moon is still about a year away from hitting theaters and the drama is already in full swing. What do y’all think … should Copon be cast as the new Jacob? Do y’all think that his Facebook announcement is pretty much proof that he already got the part?

I don’t read Twilight, and I haven’t seen the movie, but I think it’s kind of ridiculous. They obviously knew when they were casting the first one that any of the sequels were a distinct possibility; they should’ve just hired somebody who they thought could play Jacob right off the bat.
December 16th, 2008 at 9:07 am
I vote that while Michael is cute and is muscley enough for the part, he can’t act very well and New Moon is Jacob’s time to shine….I’m not sure Michael can do it well enough.
December 16th, 2008 at 9:09 am
Even though I didn’t like Jacob in the book, Lautner is a pretty good Jacob because he is exactly what I imagined. However, I’m all for putting Copon as the new “older” version of Jacob because he is SO much hotter!!! =P lol
December 16th, 2008 at 9:10 am
I think his facebook announcement is more like wishful thinking/marketing in an attempt to generate attention and get fans talking in a way that will get Summit’s attention and show them that they’re accepting to the idea of Michael as Jacob…except, they’re not. Least it doesn’t seem that way to me. I thought Taylor was great with Kristen. I really want to see a recent pic of him b/c he’s supposidly been working hard to bulk up for the role. It would seriously annoy me if they threw him aside…i can’t pinpoint exactly why, but its just such a negative thing to do. They cast him for Twilight relatively late in the game and obviously weren’t forward thinking enough if now they’re regretting it, but he’s already proved he has potential and is very eager and devoted to the books/movies. So let him just bulk up and wear lifts in his shoes to get some mroe height. Another casting rumor I’ve heard is Vanessa Hudgens or Brenda Song for Leah Clearwater. Both are horribly wrong for the role for many reasons, so thank god its so unsubstantiated that hardly any media outlets are reporting it.
December 16th, 2008 at 9:10 am
Well Jacob goes through a major change in New Moon in fact he ages and about mid 20s. So wouldn’t it be a good idea to start off with Taylor and then end up with an older looking Jacob. Taylor looks to much like a baby to me.
December 16th, 2008 at 9:10 am
I agree. If I were into it, I’d be PISSED about that. I need continuity. I even get creeped out that different people play James Bond (even though I’ve never seen a one of the movies).
December 16th, 2008 at 9:13 am
so i LOVE taylor but i do think that he needs to look older so while i hate the fact that he’s basically getting the shaft i think that it is pretty much unavoidable. i think that copon would make a great “older jacob” however his facebook stunts seem a little premeditated and sketch to me…
December 16th, 2008 at 9:25 am
Shannon — stunt is the perfect word for it. It makes him seem immature. I can’t see him getting along as well with Kristen as Robert did. At least with Taylor it seemed like she and him could have a sibling like relationship, just like their characters do.
December 16th, 2008 at 9:36 am
eh, im torn. i love me some michael copon!! but now i have taylor as the face of jacob. if only stephanie meyers didnt have to be so drastic with jacobs character! :p. its all her fault
December 16th, 2008 at 9:36 am
This pisses me off!! What a huge mistake!!!!!
December 16th, 2008 at 9:40 am
I’ve given up on the movies all together at this point. Taylor has a strong Twilight fan following, and if they pull him, I foresee a lot of very pissed off fans who would not be pleased with this. Summit royally f-ed up Twilight enough, and they are worrying fans ino believing that New Moon will be an utter travesty.
December 16th, 2008 at 9:40 am
I really hope Michael Copon doesn’t get the role of Jacob. I watched One Tree Hill when he was on the show and he was just a terrible actor. Even by One Tree Hill standards.
December 16th, 2008 at 9:45 am
I TOTALLY agree Charis. I was just coming here to comment to say the same thing. :P I really never liked him as Felix, and I have to say I love Taylor Lautner’s smile. If I were him I’d be pretty fricking pissed.
December 16th, 2008 at 9:47 am
I’m gonna have to agree with Daniela. Why can’t they just use them both? Taylor as the younger Jacob and then Michael as the older one after he changes. I mean I don’t think they could use Michael in the beginning anyway because he just looks to big. I could definitely see them using both of them. I mean Michael only said he was playing the OLDER Jacob….so maybe Taylor will still be in it as the younger one? I mean they do look a lot a like…
December 16th, 2008 at 9:47 am
People.com has a side by side of the two actors and Michael looks like Taylor so much it’s uncanny. I agree that Michael isn’t that strong of an actor and that New Moon is a big role. I also think that Taylor was the wrong choice and they should have gone with Steven Strait to begin with as SM wanted. However, there is supposed to be a VERY noticable change in Jacob from Twilight to New Moon so casting an older actor wouldn’t be a bad idea and change wise casting someone who looks like his older brother already is a wise move to me.
December 16th, 2008 at 9:50 am
I thought the current Jacob was abysmal. Sure he’s cute, but they call it acting for a reason. If they keep him on, they should splurge on some acting lessons for this kid.
Although it could have been the writing: “So the Cullens don’t come here?” “Oh, so you picked up on that?” Um yeah, dumba$$, they said it right in front of her! I couldn’t help but laugh out loud during that horrible scene!! She used her really extra-special listening powers of deduction!!
December 16th, 2008 at 9:53 am
They really need to stop dicking around with New Moon. I thought Taylor was the perfect Jacob. Of course I like Robert more, but if Taylor isn’t Jacob in New Moon, I’m waiting until the movie goes on bootleg to watch it.
December 16th, 2008 at 9:55 am
NOOOOO, no no no and no! This is just wrong, Taylor IS Jacob Black! They can’t just change that!?! And seriously, what’s up with Summit, ever since Twilight made it big they’ve got so greedy it’s almost disgusting! First catherine and now taylor, what’s next, a new Edward? guess they have to milk it while they can, huh?
December 16th, 2008 at 9:58 am
I deffinitely do not think that Michael Copon is a good choice for Jacob. I mean, sure, he has the looks but when it comes down to it he’s a pretty terrible actor. I can’t see him taking the time to learn about Jacob and really think about the character like Taylor did.
I truthfully hope that they do not get rid of Taylor. He deserves the chance to try and continue with the part he created.
And as for Ben Barnes- I love that boy, but Aro is supposed to be old. He wasn’t changed into a vampire till he was in his late 50’s. So that just would not work…
December 16th, 2008 at 9:59 am
Is there a shortage of Native American male actors out there? I don’t care who the actor is as long as he’s actually Native American! I mean, really. It’s something so obvious that people are missing…I don’t know this Copon guy. Is he Native American?
December 16th, 2008 at 10:11 am
Why not keep Taylor and let Michael Copon play Sam? Getting rid of Taylor is a poor decision.
December 16th, 2008 at 10:26 am
I agree with the above, Michael was bad by One Tree Hill standards and isn’t more faamous or much better looking so the switch would be pointless and distracting
December 16th, 2008 at 10:32 am
What a joke. Most of Michael Copon’s acting work is a joke as well. I mean come on, if you’ve seen him in other shows you’re thinking the same thing. Hopefully Chris does his homework and can see that. Taylor may not be as beefy or tall but Jacob doesnt turn into a WW until half way through the book! The most important parts of this book is the young Jacob being a best friend to Bella and helping her heal. I am pretty sure in the few parts Bella interacts with beef cake Jake they can figure something out digitally. I would never be able to read the books again with this change, just seeing a different Jacob throws it off for me. I think right now they should be focused on entertaining old fans, because lets face it- the people that have read the books so far and have seen twilight are gonna be your money makers and I’m pretty sure 99.9% are ticked off right about now.
December 16th, 2008 at 10:38 am
Team Edward here, but I still say keep Taylor. Remember he doesn’t change for the first-what-3rd of the book? How will that work? Have Taylor preVampire Jacob and Copon play post? I don’t like that.
December 16th, 2008 at 10:40 am
Ooops, that should be pre Warewolf….*blush*
December 16th, 2008 at 10:41 am
Ugh! There is no need to change Jacob! Taylor is so perfect for the part and changing him just sucks! Can’t they do some movie magic and make him wear platforms?
December 16th, 2008 at 10:43 am
oh my gosh! nooo! i want taylor to always be jacob!
seriously thats the only reason i would watch new moon!
aaahhh! i love the books, and i see taylor as jacob!
is just so retarded to change actors!! ugh!!!
if they kick taylor out im not watchin any of the movies
ever again! is just like if they changed rob!
December 16th, 2008 at 10:45 am
Cast Rudy Youngblood as SOMEONE.
December 16th, 2008 at 10:46 am
I can see where they feel the need to recast Jacob…just by the looks alone that are described in the book.
Maybe if anything, they could have Taylor @ the beginning of the movie until he goes through his “changes” and have a new guy play the new muscled up Jacob. That way we still get the best of both worlds?
There’s so many ways they could do it, but I do like Taylor as Jacob..I’m just afraid his sweet face won’t capture the solemn kinda look I see Jacob having in New Moon.
December 16th, 2008 at 10:49 am
All these changes to New Moon are insane. I really do think that Taylor deserve to play Jacob all throughout the Twilight movies. Sure, his acting might not be hands down perfect, but hey, neither is this Copon guy (I’ve seen him on Tree Hill). It feels really wrong to me if Taylor gets the shaft. Really wrong. Summit is really screwing New Moon.
I vote Taylor!
December 16th, 2008 at 11:06 am
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/keep-taylor-lautner-as-jacob-in-film-new-moon
December 16th, 2008 at 11:11 am
i hope so. upgrade!
December 16th, 2008 at 11:18 am
They can’t replace Taylor! He is Jacob Black…it will totally ruin the movie! =( I don’t like this director guy already…
December 16th, 2008 at 11:19 am
Aw, I totally think that they should keep Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black in New Moon. I don’t know if I’d want to go see the movie without him. Plus, I don’t think it’s fair to poor Taylor to get shafted after being in Twilight and making so much money out of it.
December 16th, 2008 at 11:20 am
I really like Taylor as Jacob, and I will be so sad if he is recast.
December 16th, 2008 at 11:54 am
its called CGR people! they made christopher reeve walk in that commercial, so i think they can make taylor taller and bigger, besides he is still pre-ww for the important part of the book anyway, the part that i am sure the movie will focus on. i think taylor is a good jacob and hope they dont recast…
December 16th, 2008 at 11:54 am
Jacob was easily my favorite character of all the books. In fact, Jacob is the only reason I kept reading them after Bella and Edward became overly romantic and annoying….and let’s not even discuss Breaking Dawn. shudder. Taylor is too young looking to play Jacob. By the time his “transformation” is complete he’s supposed to be physically 25. Taylor can’t pull that off. It was a stupid, short-sighted move to cast him in Twilight knowing that they’d probably have to replace him. Michael looks the part but I’m not sure if can manage the acting required to get the dynamic between Jacob and Bella correct.
I will be SO upset if they mess up my beloved Jacob!!!
December 16th, 2008 at 11:55 am
I would love for Taylor to still be Jacob. But I’m re-reading New Moon at the moment and Bella did say that Jacob looked deferent when she went to his house with the bikes. She stated how he had grown and how his face had lost the baby roundness.
December 16th, 2008 at 11:55 am
Seriously, have they never seen this Copon guy in action?! He’s terrible! He made CMM on One Tree Hill look Emmy worthy! Plus, he’s a giant cheeseball! Just….no.
December 16th, 2008 at 11:56 am
All of this replacement talk gets me nervous as to the quality and ratings of the sequel. Changing roles, big and small, never seems to bode well with many ratings: http://www.everyhype.com/?utm_source=bc
i guess we’ll see.
December 16th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
I like Taylor well enough, but I’m also a Michael fan. I’ve watched him in a bunch of stuff and I could see him with the longer like he had in that Scorpion King movie. I wouldn’t be opposed to the change.
December 16th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
This reminds me of when they first cast Rob as Edward and everyone had a bitch fest…
December 16th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
I know! Everyone moaned about a British actor being cast as Edward Cullen, but Robert has proved all those critics so wrong! I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I can only make a point on this when I’ve watched it and that will be next week, as in the UK “Twilight” is released this week – YEEESSS!!
December 16th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
I think they can use Lautner for the first part of the movie then this new fella for later in the flick when Jacob changes/grows. Jacob goes through some changes pretty fast, and I think there’s room for both of them in the story.
December 16th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Well that just ruined the movie for me.
December 16th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
MUST KEEP TAYLOR FOR ALL 4 BOOKS!!!
Jacob may have gotten “taller” in New Moon but he always had the Baby Face. I know that Taylor can do it! That stare at the end of Twilight between Taylor and Rob was just a taste of the kickassiness that is to come.
It ain’t broke so don’t fix it!!!!!
December 16th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Michael Copon is a very sweet guy and is very HOT. He hasnt gotten the proper chance to show his acting talent and I think he would be FABULOUS as Jacob. I am all for this.
December 16th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
He is a MUCH better choice than Taylor. Hands down. I’m content :)
December 16th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
i dont’ think a change will ruin the movie. sucks for the original jacob, but i think it would be ok. if this new guy is a good actor (though it sounds like that could be questionable), i think he looks ALOT like the first jacob, just bigger and buffer (which is what we want!). i love how everyone is so passionate about this, makes it even more exciting!!!!
December 16th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
It makes sense…. Jacob changes ALOT from the first book to the second… if anything they can have the younger guy come in first, before he starts changing, and the second guy after… i mean they pretty much look exactly alike… it would be like. ‘woah who is that now?”… so yea… peeps STOP FREAKIN OUT! <3
December 16th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
Even if they went the route of Taylor being in the first 3/4 of the movie and an older actor in the last quarter and next two movies..Michael is still an outrageously bad decision. He’s simply terrible. Steven Strait would have been a better decision, not to mention he can pull off long hair.
But I’m still down for Taylor Lautner..at the end of the movie he didnt look like a tiny baby faced kid, he looked broad shouldered and mean. Now that I’m remembering it, I think he looked pretty hot. Also, remember Taylor is 16 now, chances are by Eclipse he’ll of hit a teenage growth spirt.
Not freak outs, merely passionate opinions.
December 16th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
Taylor was such a horrible Jacob…he’s so cheesy and there is no way he can look like a 25 year old for New Moon and the rest of the books. Even before I seen the movie I thought the role of Jacob was really badly cast. Jacob is a funny and witty guy and Taylor sounds like a little kid. There’s no way he could continue with the role as Jacob, and for those that are upset by this should just face the truth.
I think Michael Copon has the potencial to play a good Jacob, he is much closer to what I pictured while reading the books anyways.
Anyways as long as Rob is still in the movie I could care less what happens with Jacob Black!
btw Ben Barnes as Aro is a really bad choice, I was picturing someone much older…like Antonio Banderez in Interview with a Vampire lol.
December 16th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
I think that they SHOULD NOT REPLACE HIM!!!
He only got a couple of scenes in Twilight, he would serve the role just fine in New Moon.
December 16th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
Michael is part Filipino. He is in fact my best friend’s cousin(in-law). I haven’t really seen his work, but this may just be the role to turn his career around and give him more notoriety. Maybe his acting hasn’t been the problem, so much as the roles he has played, they are two different things. Jacob’s role was not that big in Twilight, so I don’t really think that changing the actor would be such a big deal for New Moon. IMHO
December 16th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
I think that it all comes down to acting. Taylor can always beef up, and wear something to make him seem bigger. I love me some Michael, but cast him as Sam!! It would be perfect!
December 16th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
ugh michael copon can’t act he has been horrible in every movie/tv show he’s been in which is nothing amazing (mostly straight to dvd worthy) … KEEP TAYLOR!!!
December 16th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
I’m so on Team Taylor. I think he did a great job in Twilight! I think it would alienate alot of people (myself included) if they were to replace him… it just wouldn’t feel right. Older schmolder… I think he could do the role justice in New Moon,, regardless of his age and appearance.
December 16th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
micheal copon should just stick to dancing with girls in universal studios as he did for the latest bring it on movie. he is no jacob. i LOVE taylor.
December 16th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
omggg! they need to leave jacob balck as TAYLOR LAUTNER! they knew that twilight was going to have a sequel so they should have thought about that when they were casting. copon wouldnt be a good jacob black, hes too old for the role. teenage girls and adults have seen jacob as TAYLOR so they shouldn’t change everyones views. i will be horrified if they change the role of jacob black. TAYLOR LAUTNER IS JACOB BLACK!!!
December 16th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
I agree that Michael Copon is a bad actor even by One Tree Hill’s standards (which is pretty bad). Taylor Lautner has the enthusiasm to play Jacob. Obviously someone thought he was good enough otherwise they wouldn’t have cast him in the first place. As for Ben Barnes…..I’m hoping that works out:)
December 16th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
Something has got to give because Jacob needs to be competition for Edward, and right now Jacob looks like a child. I would not mind a change in casting…
December 16th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
I think they might have to replace taylor. He’s way too young looking to play a man in his early twentys.. I think Steven Strait would be a good choice. He’s a pretty good actor. Michael is alright.. he sucked in one tree hill but that isn’t much of acting. I think he might have something we’ve never seen before, I’d love to see him in a serious role like this.
December 16th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
i am sad for taylor and would love to see him in the part for the long haul… but he is only 16 and there is no way he’d pass for 27. never in a million years would he pass for that grown up and he is not aging either so he can’t change too much either throughout and he would change alot! i think this copon guy looks the part but can he be jacob… we won’t know till we see it. i agree with steven strait he is hot and a fairly good actor he’d be great!
December 16th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
No offense, but Jacob was on screen for what, maybe 5 minutes throughout the entire movie? It’s nearly impossible to accurately judge a person’s acting abilities by such a short time onscreen. Separate the actor from the character here. I’m sure Taylor’s a great but, but as Jacob, none of us saw enough of him to know if he’s capable of playing Jacob for “New Moon.” I thought he was okay, but considering how cheesy the special effects were in Twilight, I’d rather have an actor realistically look the part, rather than have to be graphically enhanced. There’s no way Taylor can play a 25 year old 6′5 werewolf.
December 16th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
Have any of you seen one tree hill! Michael was soo good on that show! Taylor Lautner is just really bad. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt but i saw twilight again yesterday and he was just awkward and really horrible. YIKES!
December 16th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
wow crazy! my friends and i are are avid tree hill fans and back when we saw pictures of taylor filming as jacob, 2 of my friends commented on how much he looks like felix (michael copon) and how they thought he would be perfect to play an older jacob.. at least in the looks department. and as far as his acting skills, please! look at kristen stewart, and half of the cast for that matter. as a huge twilight fan, i really don’t care if taylor gets the boot.. but kristen and her whinny, pretentious self definitely need to go.
December 16th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
I hate that guy! I loved the original jacob. what the crap.
December 16th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
If they recast jacob, they will definitely have a lot of angry fans on their hands, particularily because it’s never fun to see a character randomly change appearances for no reason.
Oh the other hand, I think Ben Barnes would be perfect for one of the Volturi!
December 16th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
They should not recast Jacob. Taylor is perfect. They are already ruining this movie! Gosh.
December 16th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
If they’re thinking of recasting, why can’t they just go with what the fans want and get Steven Strait??? He’s who I, along with everyone else almost, picture when I read the books.
When I’m reading them I like to think that Bella really IS torn between Edward and Jacob and I just didn’t think Taylor was good enough looks or acting wise to measure up.
Bring on the Strait!
December 16th, 2008 at 7:07 pm
For someone who is staunchly a Team Edward fan I gotta be on Team Taylor for this one. You cannot tell me that when they made Twilight, not a single producer or actor or director or whomever didn’t stop to think about the possibility of a sequel? Especially since the books were so hugely popular and the movie was so anticipated? Come on, I don’t believe that crap for a second. It’s wrong to give the part to someone else! Taylor did a great job of bringing Jacob to life. Even though his character gets bigger in the sequels he never really loses that boyish side and Michael, however good looking he may be doesn’t look like a boy. Sorry. Part of Bella’s whole problem with Jacob is that she sees him as a boy up until the end of Eclipse. It’s just a stupid decision to recast. Stephenie Meyer should step in and give her support to Taylor and ask that he remain on. I hope they don’t change this role, it would change the entire movie series.
December 16th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Steven Strait should be Jacob IMO. Taylor was fine for Twilight, showed a young Jacob, but too cutesy and there is no way he can carry New Moon. Michael was HORRIBLE on OTH as Felix.
December 16th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
Taylor = Jacob
Michael whatever CAN’T act – I saw him on One Tree Hill and his acting was HORRIBLE… worse than Taylor’s
December 16th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
I don’t want an ex-power ranger playing Jaob. You’ve got to be kidding me!
December 16th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
I <3 Taylor!!!! They BETTER NOT replace him…this is such a load of crap!
December 16th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
he was Felix in one tree hill, and I love tree hill but I DID NOT like him in it, so I say PASS. he doesnt looked native american and they should consider jakobs heritage
December 16th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
oh i just read olly post; he was a frickin power ranger too? yah this guy seems to plays tools and there are no tools in new moon
December 16th, 2008 at 7:55 pm
Jacob is definately my favourite character in the books, and I thought Taylor was THE only saving grace in the movie. His smile is exactly how I imagined Jacob would smile every time he sees Bella… and they really shouldn’t replace any actors at all! It’s ridiculous.

IMDB is reporting Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black. Michael Copon’s IMDB profile says nothing about New Moon. I don’t know if it’s premature to be hopeful or not. Also, People.com’s poll has Taylor at almost 70% over Michael.
I’m a big Lautner as Jacob fan and I’ll be plenty disappointed if they don’t let him stay on. Of course, I was plenty disappointed in the big screen version of Twilight so maybe I should just keep my nose in the books.

Taylor’s got a pretty huge fan base. And he looks EXACTLY like i thought Jacob would look.
On top of that, I felt that new Moon had the weakest storyline compared to the other books in the Twilight saga.
Gosh, Summit seems to be doing a good job in making sure New Moon will nosedive in the box office.

I think Taylor looks good for the part, and he is a good actor. I never really liked him but since all this recasting hype came up i feel a bit sorry for him. Michael’s face bugs me and the fact that he posted all that stupid crap on his facebook shows that he’s unprofessional and pretty much a full time douche. also, taylor has a much bigger fan base than Michael.
December 16th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Pretty brave to have that on his facebook, or he could be talking about it on local news. BEn BArnes, that would make the film more money than it already has. YOU KNOW GIRLS ARe going to faint when Ben Barnes and Pattinson walk arounf promoting the future vamp movies

ahh,no?
this michael guy cannot take up jacob’s role!
TAYLOR LAUTNER!!!!! <333

Ashley…”Why not keep Taylor and let Michael Copon play Sam? Getting rid of Taylor is a poor decision.” I agree completely. Taylor is exactly how I imagined Jacob to be, and I love Jacob’s character! They need to keep someone who can actually pull off the role instead of just casting for looks. Plus, I think people forget that Jacob is supposed to be young. And really…yeah he goes through a lot of changes but they can do wonders with special effects…I mean, Gimli was the tallest of the Fellowship in real life!
December 16th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
first of all: aro is OLD. he’s described as having rheumy eyes and papery skin. psh. there is no way ben barnes can play him. the only volturi remotely close to ben barnes’ age is alec and he’s tiny &cherubic.
second: i love taylor lautner! if they can give ian mckellen an enhanced digital facelift then i don’t see any reason why they can’t age taylor with cgi or whatever.
@cassandra: i LOVE that gimli is tall. hahah. he’s a legend.
December 16th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
i always thought steven strait was a good idea too – but he’s not got that childlike quality that jacob has.
December 16th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
You can not compare the CGI of a movie like LOTR to this. That is almost laughable.. By the sounds of it they don’t have the TIME, or the money to put into this movie like was done on LOTR. End or discussion.

Seriously, I cannot picture this Michael Copon as anything but a cheerleader once I saw the stills from that horrid Bring it On sequel he was in. It says on IMDB that he is half-philipino. Can we seriously not find any actual Native American actors to play Jacob if they do recast him. I know people are talking about CGI and Special FX for Taylor to stay on but Summit seems to be trying to do everything on the cheap so I doubt they’ll spend the millions to keep Taylor. Obviously Michael did the facebook thing just to get buzz. Unfortunately, not many people seem to like him that much due to the fact that he generally sucks at acting and is just a pretty face to cast in useless sequels to previous hits (i.e. power rangers, bring it on, scorpion king 2). I’d hate for his track record to suffocate the twilight franchise before it actually becomes one. I wonder what role Kristen Stewart will have in the casting seeing how she seemed to have a pretty signifcant role in Rob being cast. She’s made multiple comments in interviews that all these guys came in trying to play Edward as a model/pretty face and Rob didn’t and that is why she liked him. That’s what Michael Copon seems to be to me; a model pretty face who doesn’t really care about the character. It would really suck if they cast some guy without Kristen’s input and they lacked chemistry and it ruined the movie. They need to either keep Taylor who has chemistry with Kristen and seems to get along pretty well with or cast someone who is a deep actor who will actually analyze the part and not play it as a pretty boy with washboard abs. It should be interesting to see what Chris and Summit does. They could really screw themselves over on this.

WHAT!!
NO!!
THEY CANT DO THIS!!!
Taylor Lautner makes the best jacob ever.. even when hes not in the movie i just look at him and think “JACOB BLACK”
i hate this new director guy!!
they better not replace him!!
December 17th, 2008 at 1:38 am
don’t they realise that by the time they’ve actually made New Moon, Taylor is gonna look a lot older anyway…coz you know, puberty…
and if they cast the other dude, and end up making all the movies (all i can picture him as is Felix from OTH and it scares me!!!) then he will be a 30 year old playing a 17 year old…
they could’ve at least gotten Steven Strait…then I might be able to accept it!!!
December 17th, 2008 at 3:50 am
replacing taylor lautner is going to ruin the whole movie, i’m not lying. height does not matter, and taylor’s already pretty buff to me. so summit needs to learn how to work up their special effects. thank you and have a great day.
December 17th, 2008 at 5:52 am
Nooooo, this is horrible, I hope this doesn’t happen! I don’t know if I would go see the second one.
December 17th, 2008 at 7:06 am
I sort of feel sad for Taylor. The other dude is pretty hot though, I guess I didn’t really picture Jacob as hot. Not to mention his facebook comments seem a little..oh, I don’t know..cocky.

“OllyDolly Says:
December 16th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
I don’t want an ex-power ranger playing Jaob. You’ve got to be kidding me!”
haha I agree!!!
As for the Ben Barnes thing…He should play Felix or Demitri or Alec for all I care..but come on!! Aro?? He was bitten when he was like 50!! One of the main reasons Bella is scared of him is because of his old crinkly paper thin skin and his old milky eyes. Lets keep with the story instead of trying to pull more fans in by casting another stud.
December 17th, 2008 at 9:00 am
omg having ben in it would be awesome!!! I <3 him! but i agree with everyone else, Aro was old. Ben is way too hot to play that.
December 17th, 2008 at 9:52 am
I don’t get it.. I’ve read about 85% of these comments and I just don’t understand why so many people are so mad. I’m blamming that on movie fans.. Not the book fans.. Because those of us that have read the books understand why this change needs to happen.. Unless this Taylor person can beef up and look like a man in his mid to late 20’s by the time they do Breaking Dawn, I’m happy to see him go. For the sake of the books..
December 17th, 2008 at 10:54 am
I Like Taylor As Jacob And That Michael Kid Could Indeed Play A Good SAM But When I See Taylor I See Jacob He Can Do It I Have Faith He Can Pull It Off Doesnt Matter If He Can Buff Up Or Now They Can CGI All That Stuff …TEAM TAYLOR THE ONE AND ONLY JACOB BLACK Michael Is A Little To Cocky And Isnt Sunshiny To Me Not Like Taylor… And Ben Barnes As Aro Lovely I Could Deal With It And Aro Is Not OLD Really Just Described Older That Carlisle And He Is In His 20’s So Aro Has To 30 Something? Anyway He Is Decscribed With Black Hair And Thats About His Description Is So Ben Is Ok With Me
December 17th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Sorry, stab me in the back if you like but here it is; Replace him. There is no way Taylor will get any taller or bulkier in three months! Yes, it is very very very very unfair to just give him the shaft, but (I’m sorry, but seriously) he’s to small to be the bulky Jake I “know” and like…
December 17th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
Once you read 4 novels picturing the same face, it’s hard to say, “oh well, he’s not bulky enough.”
Come on, I would take a less bulky Jacob to save the existence of how I have pictured the entire series and my good experience with it.
December 17th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
I agree that most of the problem with re-casting Jacob Black is between the movie fans. I’ve been reading these books since they first came out, and I think many of the book fans can agree that Jacob goes through a major growth spurt. Taylor was a good young Jacob, because Taylor is young. But in order to stay true to the books, the role needs to be recasted for someone in their twenties. It’s not un-common for a 20 something year old to play a teenager… just look at most of the cast of Mean Girls. The problem with Taylor isn’t that he won’t be “bulky” enough, but there’s no excercise in the world that he could do to make him grow taller and look 25 in a matter of months. Steven Strait has always been the perfect Jacob Black to me, Stephenie Meyer even said so herself. So if Summit needs to recast Jacob AND still wants to at least make a good amount of the fan base happy, they’d cast Strait.
December 18th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
yay and nay. i love taylor.. buuuut i alsoooo love michael copon. drool. let em both play jacob, i say. HAHA. taylor can be the cute youngin jacob in the beginning.. then when he gets all distant and goes away and comes back.. bring in michael copon.. orrrr steven strait. oohlala.
.. this is why i’m team jacob. so many possibilities.. and i think i’d be happy either way.
December 22nd, 2008 at 5:40 pm
OMG
i have always been on Team Edward
but REPLACING Jacob?
are they crazy?
Lautner = Jacob
thats the way it shud remain

January 4th, 2009 at 5:59 am
OMG ARE YOU SHITTING ME!
THEY CAN NOT CHANGE JACOB
IT WOULD MESS UP THE WHOLE MOVIE!
I LOVE TAYLOR LAUTNER AND HES THE PERFECT JACOB BLACK.
IF THEY CHANGE TAYLOR FOR A NEW JACOB..
THEY WILL LOOSE A LOT OF FANS. A LOT !!!
January 5th, 2009 at 6:09 pm
if they change jacob blac…the twilight movies will b ruined. I am so on team Jacob…& he is perfect…not 2 mention HOTT! but i swear…i will stop with the twilight series altogether if they change him. i will not c the movies & stop reading the books 2. cuz when i c a movie based on a book…when i read i automatically tihink of the actor or actress who played that role. so i think or their voices…i kno its wierd…but it is how i read. Keep Taylor Lautner! Team Werewolf 4EVA!
January 5th, 2009 at 6:10 pm
srry…i 4got the k @ the end of Jacob Black
January 6th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
TAYLOR LAUTNER IS JACOB BLACK AND NO ONE SHOULD EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVE EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER CHANGE THAT. I mean come ON! look at micheal. hes not even native american for crying out loud! if they get rid of taylor, they get rid of hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of fans. everyone i know will not be seeing the movie if taylor is not in it. tayolr is the REAL jacob black. and he can bulk up, he already did quite a lot since he got the news. and of course the whole thing with the curious case of benjamin button is totally a possibility. and that is what they should do. but taylor lautner has that charm jacob black deffinatly has. and even though jacob does change in the book, but taylor can pull it off. i mean he is such a beast. so i will do like seriously everything to keep taylor as jacob for the rest of the movies. TAYLOR LAUTNER IS THE REAL JACOB BLACK!
