Madonna & Guy Ritchie Reach A Final Divorce Agreement
It's official

Last month we learned that Madonna and very soon-to-be ex-hubby Guy Ritchie had reached a tentative divorce agreement and today we learn from Maddy‘s long-time publicist Liz Rosenberg that the final divorce settlement has been officially agreed upon by both parties — and Guy is gonna get paid some major moolah. Essentially, as soon as the court signs the paperwork after child custody is hammered out, the fairytale marriage of Madonna and Guy Ritchie will be totally and completely dunzo:

Madonna has reached a divorce settlement with Guy Ritchie, according to the singer’s rep. The pop star will pay her ex between $76 million and $92 million, her spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg tells the Associated Press. Rosenberg says the figure includes the value of their country home Ashcombe, in western England, as well as the couple’s London pub, the Punchbowl. “I’d assume it’s one of the largest payouts ever in a divorce settlement,” Rosenberg told the AP. While the financial details of the settlement have been ironed out, Madonna, 50, and Ritchie, 40, are still finalizing custodial arrangements for their children. Madonna filed for divorce citing Ritchie’s “unreasonable behavior” as a cause. The two were granted a preliminary “quickie divorce” on Nov. 21 in the High Court of London. Richie’s rep declined to comment to the AP. As for reports that the couple plan to spend Christmas together, Madonna’s rep tells PEOPLE that is not true.

Damn. That is a lot of money … but really, this whole thing just saddens me. I’d like to say, again, that I really liked Madonna and Guy together. I’m bummed that it couldn’t work out between the two of them. While I’m sure that these mega millions that Guy will be getting will do much to cushion the loss of his marriage, I suspect that this whole ordeal is still a difficult one for the both of them. I’m sure it won’t be much longer until we hear that the couple are legally dunzo for good.

The estate must be worth at least one-third of that amount, so his actual divorce settlement won’t set a record. Too bad they couldn’t make it work but I hope they will both be happy.

I still love how the term “unreasonable behaviour” is used in the UK for divorce filings. It conjures images of capless toothpaste tubes, wet towels left on the bathroom floor, or someone snoring and hogging all the covers.
I’m sure much more significant issues were at play between Madge and her Guy, but the term is kinda hilarious (altho the UK’ers might think the same thing about “irreconcilable differences”).
Whatever the cause, they’d best get to focusing on what is best for their kids now that the $$$ aspect is sorted out.
As for Madonna’s next relationship, I think she should just form a life partnership with Liz Rosenberg who seems to be only person who has managed to really last in Madonna’s life.

I just can’t imagine how much money that is. It’s absurd!

  4. magickat says:

It’s completely ridiculous that anyone should get a windfall of money that doesn’t belong to them (that was there before they ever came around) when they get divorced.

I hope Madonna goes original style and somehow ends up with Sean Penn in the end of all this. She always said that was the greatest love of her life.

    can i have a part of that money ? :) ( will use it for a good cause… PROMISE ! )

  6. I should think loads of people are still surprised that the marriage lasted as long as it did! Especially with all this Kabblah cult bullshit she’s into. That would drive any poor guy to despair! They’ve been sensible in arranging things without loads of drama and just staying friends.

    LOL Kent!!

That photo creeps me out …

  9. schmee says:

I wonder why they released the settlement terms? A publicist as slick as Liz Rosenberg would know that this would read like Ritchie wasnt capable of supporting himself and would embarass him… oh wait. Now we know why they announced this

Trent, I’m not sure where you got that pic from, but there’s just been a major lawsuit in the UK against one of the papers that published a photo taken of her wedding (leaked by the caterer or something). I was trying to find the pic, but all the blogs I looked through had removed it.

Just a head’s up – it might be a totally different pic or different rules might apply to the US – but I thought it might be useful.

Thanks for the great posts though – I always check out the blog before beginning studying for the day (I’m here from Canada doing a MSc at the LSE) and it rocks!

Perhaps I’m the “unrealistic” one since my parents have been married since 1975 and no one in my family is divorced but I just feel so bad for kids (any kids of divorced parents) when this happens. I can’t even IMAGINE life without my mom and my dad together in one house when I was a kid. Even now that I’m grown up and moved out I couldn’t imagine visiting them in separate places.
