Jennifer Aniston Does ‘The Late Show With David Letterman’

Jen helps Dave tie one on
December 18th, 2008

Jennifer Aniston was one of the guests on The Late Show with David Letterman last night and was on hand to do some promo work for her new movie Marley & Me which opens in theaters here in the US on December 25. Jen, the ever-so-kind guest, thought it would be a nice thing to bring Dave an early Xmas gift … and presented him with the red, white and blue-striped Brooks Brothers tie that she wore for the coverphoto of the new issue of GQ magazine. In return, Letterman grilled Aniston on pretty much everything he could think of including her relationship with John Mayer:

She has just bared almost every inch of her body on the cover of a men’s magazine. But if David Letterman was hoping to catch Jennifer Aniston in an equally revealing mood, he was sadly mistaken. The former Friends actress appeared as a guest on the US star’s late night chat show to promote her new film Marley and Me on Wednesday night. However, it was not long before the topic quite naturally turned to the star’s love life. And it was at that moment that things turned a little awkward between the pair. Dressed in a pink mini jumper-dress which only just managed to skim the tops of her thighs, Aniston inexplicably came over all coy as the host fired off a series of questions about her guitarist boyfriend John Mayer. The actress quickly replied: “I think it’s all been said at this point.” But Letterman dutifully plugged away, asking why she thought people were interested in her personal life. “I don’t know. Just ask yourself why you asked the question,” Aniston shot back. The 39-year-old eventually told him that they met at a Hollywood party, but was clearly uncomfortable as the host kept asking more questions. She attempted to end the conversation by giving short answers and laughing off Letterman’s remarks. Finally, he admitted defeat as Aniston continued to clam up. “I’m an idiot,” he said. “I can’t even go any further with this.” But the awkwardness was not over. The host then ogled pictures of the naked actress writhing with male models in her recent GQ shoot. The actress, who has appeared naked in several magazines over the years including another cover-shoot for GQ in 2005, shifted uncomfortably in her seat. She again looked far from impressed as the pictures were held up to the audience. “Oh Dave what else are you gonna pull out of that basket?” she said as she desperately tried to deflect attention away from the pictures, the most famous of which features her posing provocatively in a striped necktie. “You’ve got some explaining to do here,” he said. Again trying to change the subject, Aniston reached behind her chair to get “an early Christmas present”, producing the same tie that she wore for the shoot. Letterman immediately ripped off his own tie and as his band played strippers’ music, put on Aniston’s gift. “Oh this is exciting – I’m dressing Dave!” Aniston said as she helped him. “This is an historic moment in my career. That was fantastic!”

Okay … so technically, Dave grilled Jen before she gave him that fabulous gift but, I must say, she handled herself like a champ. I suppose I don’t understand why a celebrity would choose to clam up about personal questions when they appear on national television even if they are there to talk about non-personal things. I mean, seriously … but, then again, when you’re as big a star as Jennifer Aniston is you can really get away with stonewalling as much as you want. Personally, I think it was damn cool of Jen to give Dave that now-infamous Brooks Brothers tie (tho, I suspect it wasn’t the actual tie she wore for the shoot). Incidentally, if YOU would like to buy this tie for yourself or for someone you love, you can order it online from the company directly HERE. It’s on sale from $150 to $112.50 — what a bargain! After the jump and for those of you who missed watching it on TV, check out Jen’s full interview with David Letterman last night …

Part 2:

I don’t suspect that questions and speculation about Jen’s personal life is going to die down anytime soon but I think she’s handling it all very well. While I think the path of least resistance is sometimes the better way to go, she seems pretty intent on doing things her way. On that account, I say good for her.

  7. John M Says:

Just because actors or singers appear in the national media, almost always to promote their work doesn’t mean that they owe interviewers, hosts, or even bloggers a single bit of information about their private lives. They go on shows because it is part of their job to promote the work, usually written into their contracts. The only reason that you “don’t understand” why they don’t want to talk about personal things is because you don’t want to understand. Afterall, you and other gossip columnists make your living off of publishing every rumor and detail you can expose about these people. You have the right to do that in this country, but they have the right to “clam up” too. Get over it.

Someone please introduce this woman to the color wheel! I don’t think I have ever seen her wear anything other than white, black and tanish/beige. She is pretty but looks sooooo boring…..

  9. PITNBer Says:

    HAHA, John?! Is that you?!!!

  10. anna Says:

Way to defend your woman John M…if that’s who you really are…

I personally think Jen knew exactly what she was doing. Of course she knew Dave of all people would ask her about her personal life. She’s playing coy so all those moms out there feel bad for her and take their kids to see her movie. Well played Jen.

  11. lyndyloo Says:

    LMAOOOOOOOOO
    John Mayer is a hero.
If that is really John, I’D JUST LIKE TO ASK HIM , PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, MARRY THIS WOMAN NOW, SHE’S A CATCH.

  12. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

@John M — not that I necessarily believe that you are actually John Mayer but allow me to respond. I never once said that talking about personal matters is either owed or contractually required but when a celebrity courts the public’s attention, adoration and money by seeking fame it seems clear to me that they are willfully opening a door that, at first, they are happy to make available and then, once they reach a certain level of wealth decide, OH never mind — now I want to be private. Whether it’s right or wrong isn’t the issue. Celebs can clam up all they want just as the public can speculate all they want. It’s all game … on both ends. Thanks for playing!

  13. GirlieGirl Says:

Man, this is weird. I’m usually enamored with Jen… but she was going to point to the naked picture of herself sooner or later if she had the tie on hand, right?

    Why try to fake shyness?

  14. Bleeding Ears Says:

To quote Family Guy: “That’s enough John Mayer.”

  15. lili Says:

“Someone please introduce this woman to the color wheel!”

    lol @ nat

I never thought about it before, but you’re right!

  16. Stephanie Says:

she is so cute and funny!!! its weird to see her speak as jen aniston, not rachel green..i’ve been watching too much friends lately. its a shame the media bags on her so much because she seems so happy and fun. i love jen!!!! and john for that matter…teehee

  17. RC Says:

    John M,

While no one is obligated .. the world we live in plays by it’s own set of rules that places “demands” on us that we might not like. You accept it as part of the whole package (altho you could take on the monumental task of changing it.. a much bigger challenge and far less rewarding atleast finacially)

Anyway regardless of all that, Im not a fan but Miss Aniston did a helluva good interview here that is too her credit. Well done and thanks for posting the interview!

  18. Mike Says:

I think you missed what happened to an extent. Jen was uncomfortable during the interview, but didn’t get noticeably upset until Dave pulled out the issue of Vogue – plastered right on the cover is Jen’s quote about Angelina being “really uncool.” Since that comment backfired to an extent – it brought the brad/angie/jen triangle back into the news – Jen clearly didn’t want everyone watching Dave reminded of it. It was the Vogue issue that made Jen exclaim “what else do you have back there.”

  19. Joanne Says:

How incredibly frustrating that she is going to be asked about ‘those other two’ probably for the rest of her career. That sucks! I think she needs to put out a press release saying seriously – enough! She should not to be asked any more questions about Brad and Ange. She did not choose to enter that ‘love’ triangle. It’s unfair.

  20. reader Says:

    She is soooo BORING.

  21. IB Says:

Did anyone catch the upskirt at around 3:52?

  22. Richard Says:

like the song says JIZZ IN THE PANTS
