Iceland Is Dunzo!
Welp, the long story short is that our plans to spend New Year’s Eve in Reykjavik, Iceland totally and completely fell apart at the last minute last night. Without going into the gory details, we got our flight times mixed up and ended up missing our flight to Iceland last night … the only one of the day. After trying to reschedule for today, we learned that the flight was booked solid and any flight after today would put us in Iceland after New Year’s Eve:

Obvs, David and I are really upset about our plans falling apart but I’m most bothered by the fact that we were to meet my friend Diana in Iceland today. Instead, she will be spending New Year’s all by herself in Iceland. Altho she is a very resilient person who often travels to foreign countries all on her own, I’m bummed that we won’t be spending the New Year together. We had this trip planned for so long and it was all undone but a mere 2 hours :(
As a result, we will be spending NYE here in NYC … not too shabby, I’m not complaining, but I am a bit upset that our grand plans to be back in Reykjavik died a sad and unnecessary death.

That sucks soooo badly!!!! Sorry to hear it :(
December 30th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
Oooh, so sorry about that Trent. A good friend of mine went to Iceland three years ago and she really enjoyed it there.
Don’t worry, the right time will come when you can get there, for sure. Maybe these things happen for a reason and you and David weren’t supposed to be for some reason, just think of it that way. I hope you can get some of the expenses back on insurance.
December 30th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
aww, sorry to hear that your plans didn’t work out. New Years in Iceland sounds awesomee but there’s probably a reason why things didn’t work out. Just make the best out of things =).

It sucks when these things happen, though. I got really sick the day before I was due to fly to Mexico City from Los Angeles to shoot a Panic at the Disco show, this was in December 2006 and I couldn’t get any of the expenses back on my travel insurance because I had a severe sore throat and flu-type virus BEFORE I even travelled, so that isn’t covered. I was so annoyed. Even more annoying was when I spoke to the band several months later and they said that the show I missed was one of the best they’d done on that tour!! So fustrating!
I hope Trent and David get to Iceland in 2009.

Booo! That sucks!
I’m party hopping around NYC if you want to join! :)

December 30th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
that’s just awfull!
I know the feeling, I was supposed to go to Vancouver for Christmas & they were compltely snowed in & I wasn’t able to make it home until the day after Christmas, it was horribly depressing.
December 30th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Boo! I’m so sorry your plans feel through, Trent. I wish you a very happy New Year regardless of the location. :)
December 30th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
I’m so sorry Trent! I know what might make you feel better though…a nice long blog about The City *hint hint* :)
December 30th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
That sucks big nuts dude! All that money down the toilet too, I’d be so pissed at myself if I were in your shoes!!! I’d be a bit pissed at you if I were your friend that you were meeting too because I’m not the kind of person who would be ok on her own in a foreign country!! Happy New Year though, at least you aren’t stuck somewhere like Delaware.
December 30th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
i’m so sorry your plans didn’t go through :(
December 30th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
I am sorry! Just enjoy ringing in the New Year with the person you love. Don’t focus on where you are, but who you are with. Happy New Year!
December 30th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
I was wondering what happened after you mentioned it ony our Twitter account…I’m sorry about the mix-up! I was really looking forward to hearing about your trip and seeing pictures of Jesus your jesus doing his traveling knome impression…And who knew flights to Iceland were so darn popular?? It’s supposed to be 16 degrees here in the city tomorrow night, so just get drunk and pretend its Iceland!
December 30th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
yikes. I cannot even imagine how crappy that feels. You gotta shake it off it though. (sounds like you already have). If it were me I’d still be one crabby-panted-lady. Good thing you’ll still be spending NYE with your lover.
December 30th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
oh no! that sucks, but at least you get to spend new years in NYC, which will be fun too. if your friend is looking for something to do in reykjavik I have friends there, they have an apartment downtown and they are having an awesome rooftop party …
December 30th, 2008 at 2:00 pm

December 30th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Your poor friend! I’m thinking that a really nice bottle of champagne to her hotel room would console her, if only partially…
December 30th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
That definitely sucks… I have jealously been reading every post that you made about Iceland and have been hoping the best for you. I’m so sorry that it isn’t going to work out – and I selfishly was looking forward to pictures… but I hope you still plan to go there in the future! I certainly am!
December 30th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Maybe it wasn’t meant to be. I beleive everything happens for a reason. Although you may not! :) Have fun in NYC!

December 30th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
Sorry, but I’m sure you have other plans in the works already. :) You’ve got a great group around you.
December 30th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
okay wait…it’s kind of a big deal when you are taking a trip internationally to Iceland of all places for New Year’s Eve of all events to check that itinerary like forever until you get to the airport. Who messes that up? I’m not so sorry. sorry:(
December 30th, 2008 at 7:12 pm

Your friend will probably have a great time, everyone is very friendly here in iceland :)
It is amazing how popular iceland is this new years, it was in the news a couple of days ago that all the hotels in Reykjavík where fully booked for this night!!

December 30th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
How did you manage to miss that flight? I just feels sorry for your friend, going all the way to Iceland to be stood up because someone couldn’t manage to get to the airport in time. She missed be pissed off!
December 31st, 2008 at 7:14 am
Hey!
I am currently living in Iceland. I think She’ll be fine. The party scene is C-c-c-c-CRAZY. The party doesn’t really start until after midnight, around 1:30 though. People spend the first part of the evening with their families.
Anyhow, she should just walk down Laugavegur and choose a bar. Boston is great. If she needs help you can give her my email. brianrocks03hotmail. I am very aware of how strange this sounds, but we’re having a NUTSO dance party downtown. She is more than welcome. She’ll probably end up knowing about as many people as I will.
Happy New Year!

@Anna — Trent is very fortunate to have an understanding friend like Diana rather than one like, well, you!
December 31st, 2008 at 8:15 am
@me — Even an understanding friend can get pissed off though if they have to spend New Years Eve where they don’t know anyone because their friend missed a flight.
December 31st, 2008 at 8:46 am
@Anna — I can assure you that Diana is fine, your concern is very much appreciated.
December 31st, 2008 at 9:39 am
Sorry to hear about your plans getting messed up. I know Jesus will still have fun in NYC. Either way, you always make great plans and take good pics. My original plans got messed up too. I figure its only one night and not worth the stress. Instead I have a whole year to look forward to (and to occasionally mess up that as well). Have a great Pink is the New Year!
December 31st, 2008 at 9:41 am
That is just heartbreaking. I suppose things happen for a reason, though. Who knows, if you had gone, you might have been eaten by the Rankin/Bass Yeti from the Rudolph movie.
December 31st, 2008 at 9:57 am
@Lyn — LOL, you’re right! At least I can look forward to a Yeti-less NYE
December 31st, 2008 at 12:15 pm
In the infamous words of the Dude, “This is a bummer, man.” =( My poor husband can relate. After a couple years of annual passes to Disneyland (much of our relationship formed there) I put an end to our much anticipated trip (and honeymoon) to Disney WORLD (he’s never been) since their dog policies SUCK and I don’t travel without my dog. So no Disney World for us!
December 31st, 2008 at 6:26 pm
Awww This sucks, but remember, everything happens for a reason. Chin up.
