‘Gossip Girl’ To Spin-Off A New Series?
Which member of the 'Gossip' gang will get their own show?

Daily Variety is reporting that The CW is taking up the idea of spinning off a new series from its already very successful series Gossip Girl … but contrary to the way the original book series handled a spin-off, the new series is said NOT to focus on the Jenny Humphrey character. According to Variety, GG will test the spin-off waters with an upcoming episode meant to gauge interest in a new series … the big question remains — which character will be chosen as the focus for the new series?

The CW may utilize an episode of “Gossip Girl” later this year to test the spinoff waters. According to netlet insiders, one of the hit teen skein’s segs later this season may double as a backdoor pilot for a “Gossip Girl” spinoff. Such a move would save in pilot costs, and allow the CW a chance to gauge viewer reaction before moving forward on such a companion show. Rumors of a “Girl” spinoff have been percolating for some time, in part because Alloy Entertainment’s “Gossip Girl” book series — from which the TV show was based — already has a spinoff of its own, “The It Girl.” But sources say a televised “Gossip Girl” spinoff would not be “The It Girl,” nor would it focus on the character of Jenny Humphrey (the character spun off from the “Gossip Girl” books for “The It Girl”), played on TV by Taylor Momsen. The TV spinoff would nonetheless likely center on one of the show’s nine regular characters — although there’s always a chance a new character could be planted in the backdoor pilot. A “Gossip Girl” spinoff is still in the very early stages of development, and didn’t seem likely earlier this year. However, the CW may have decided to move forward with one after all now that it’s been forced to scrap “The Graysons,” an origins tale revolving around Batman’s sidekick, Robin. “The Graysons” was set to serve as the tentpole of this year’s CW development slate. With that project out of the picture, the CW has been hunting for another big-ticket title to prep for next season.

I’m not sure how I feel about the notion of a spin-off show. I like things the way they are right now … if they dilute the awesomeness, the whole thing might fall apart. Depending on which character they decide to revolve the proposed new serious around, it could be a HUGE failure or (IMHO) just a marginal success. I’m pretty sure the spin-off would have to be anchored by a female character … I just don’t know how a new series based on one of the guys would really work. In any event, if this GG spin-off show is a go then it’ll prolly join the new Melrose Place redux that The CW is said to be making on the network next season. Whatever happened to original ideas? HMMM. What do y’all think … are YOU interested in a Gossip Girl spin-off? If so, who would YOU like to see as the featured star?

Dorota has or will have a spin of on the web (at least i read that somewhere) so maybe its her.

  2. Lulu says:

B!! A show of S would drive me batty… But if they took B away, them GG would not be the same :( Bad idea all around.

  3. elle says:

Dorota?? Are you people insane?? (maybe she really does have a personality and I just can’t understand her lol) But I think the only spin off I could see is if one of them goes away to college somewhere. IMO I think any of them without the rest of the cast would be boring even Chuck surprisingly

  4. Anya Golda says:

Michelle Trachtenberg (Georgina Sparks) is coming back to GG. What if the character’s comeback really is a set up for the spin off?

  5. annyonmus says:

Isn’t is just some websidoes of Dorota, or the young love story of Lily and Rufus

  6. Stacey E says:

if there is going to be a spinoff, will that character remail on GG as well??

  7. lambman says:

I think the spinoff should be about life at yale for Blair and Serena and Gossip Girl would focus on life in NYC at prep school with Jenny as the lead as everybody else will graduate in spring

  8. Karl says:

It should be Eric…. A gay spin-off would probably be much more interesting. I would more likely watch that!

  9. R says:

    Georgina or Erick.
I thought Jenny would be a good one.

  10. Alexa says:

It’s just Dorota (Blair’s maid) getting her own webisode, I read it last week.

  11. xoxo_CB says:

It won’t Eric. He has declined an offer from The CW Network for a more permanent spot on the show — he feels that signing a contract would keep him from exploring more ops in the acting world.
Georgina?? Honestly, would people watch a show about such a hated character?! I wouldn’t.
Personally, I think that attempting a spin-off would ruin the magic of GG that we have all come to know and love. xoxo

  12. Mire says:

Now this is a bad idea. I hate spinoffs cuz generally (not in 90210 – MP) they mess up the original series in some ways (cast depertures, storylines)

  13. Ashley says:

Ooh the young Lily and Rufus idea sounds the best. I like their side story on GG. I’m a hopeless romantic, what can I say haha.

  14. Panti Christ says:

I would love to read GG recaps!

  15. xoxo_CB says:

I second the GG recaps ♥

  16. alejandro says:

its only in what, its second season?!?!?!
maybe if it gets to its 3 or fourth… come on.

  17. Diana says:

I third the GG recaps Trent! Bring ‘em back! Anyway, I hate the idea of a spin-off. I agree, it would take some magic from GG. I love the show as it is, a bunch of kids in an upper east side school and lots of drama. : )

  18. Sara says:

    Yes! GG recaps please! :)

  19. marc us says:

Well, there’s rumors going around that Georgina Sparks will be coming back, so it’s will probably be her (I think). I mean, you can’t take away the essentials (S, B, Mother Chucker haha, and Nate).

I could do without Dan so much. At this point, I can’t really see any more story lines for him other than him and serena getting it on and off and on.. and that’s old news to me. It’s time for some new drama.

Oh, and where’s the gossip girl in all of this. it’s like they hardly use it (aside from that nate kissing incidents). does anyone else find that weird?

    What do you think, Trent?
