‘For The Honor Of Greyskull’

The TV Guide
December 21st, 2008

Wee! Yesterday was an amazing day of DOING NOTHING and, let me tell y’all … I loved every minute of it. With all my upcoming travels (starting tomorrow night) on the way, I am really hoping to do as little as possible to rest up as much as I can. I stayed in my pjs yesterday and worked, did laundry, kinda packed and watched DVDs all day long … that was it … and it was glorious. I spent most of the afternoon watching a couple of He-Man & She-Ra DVDs — the feature-legnth movie The Secret of the Sword (which was our introduction to She-Ra, the Princess of Power) and the He-Man & She-Ra Christmas Special:

I’ve had my He-Man/She-Ra DVDs out for months now but I never got around to watching them … yesterday was the day. As much as it was really fun to reminisce about my childhood, I think I’m growing increasingly tired of the cheesiness that we kids were fed in the 80s — god, I’m getting old :( That being said, kids these days have no concept of Saturday Morning Cartoons and I think that is really very sad. While I’m not too keen about the aging process, I am very happy that I was able to live thru and enjoy the fun kidstuff that the 1980’s gave us. But I digress …

Tonight is a big night … most of Le GangTM are getting together for a holiday dinner so that we can spend time with one another before we all go our separate ways and fly home for the holidays. I am really looking forward to tonight … I haven’t seen Kirsten, Adriana, Jim or Derek in ages so it’ll be nice to see them. I have all of my Xmas books ready to go for each of them and I can’t wait to give them out. It shall be a blast!! The craziness starts tomorrow … after a full day of work, I need to finish packing and then catch a red-eye back to Detroit. I hope that the weather will comply and won’t keep me stranded in any airports or anything like that … crossing fingers now.

Aww Trent I luv you for this. When I was 5 I thought I was she-ra, until I realized I was a little black girl in Oklahoma, but in any case I had that she-ra mask in one piece for years until it broke in half a few years ago. AWWW memories, thanks for bringing it all back for me. You are soo right about the cartoons of today, maybe it’s nostalgia talking but it really was more innocent back than.

  2. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

Now he’s 25 with 2 little boys of his own. Who told him that the show was boring. Ah, these kids of tday.

  9. Rolltideguy77 Says:

The 80’s were the shizz Trent! Kids these days got cheese, we got GI Joe, Transformers and HE-Man. I dont think they will be making any major motion pictures out of the crap kids watch these days.

  10. josh Says:

awww I remember the year I got my He-man action figure for christmas- best christmas morning ever! well besides the year I got a bottle of shampoo in the shape of ALF.

  11. Mr. Gyllenhaal Says:

I love me some He-Man and She-ra. I need to check out these DVD’s!

  12. Bubblegum Says:

Lol, whenever I watch the stuff that I LOVED in my youth, I realize it is waaaay cheesy. I think I’m at the point where I have decided to stop revisiting it, before I ruin all my childhood idols! With the exception of Rocky and Bullwinkle, which I still find entertaining to watch. The puns make me groan, but still laugh.

  13. FK Says:

How much did I love He-Man & She-Ra? I took Suzuki violin when I was little and, in an attempt to get me to practice, my teacher made up little “themes” I was supposed to play when a character would appear on the show because she knew I loved it so much. One for He-Man, one for Evil Lyn, etc. That teacher, bless her, tried everything. When She-Ra movie came out, I was in heaven. I wanted to be her SO BAD.

  14. Shervs Says:

omg when i was smaller i had She-Ra curtains lol i luv old 80’s cartoons….i need to get those dvds!!

  15. TandSara Says:

If I can locate the one I’ve got I’ll try to scan it or call my mom and get her to do it so I can email it to you,My younger sis was skeltor( she had a major He-man/skeletor fixation back then) I’ve been reading your blog for years, love it. My sister went to OU too, she was class of 98 I believe, I’ll have to double check that, lol. Luv ya Trent. Happiest Holidays to you.

  16. TandSara Says:

Oh I still have my old Jem and the Holograms( best glam 80’s band, lol) vhs tape at my mom’s house and every once in awhile My sister and I just HAVE to watch it again. My favorite scene: Battle of the Bands, lol, ( Yes it’s cheesy and full of corn but I can’t help it). They NEED to make a Jem movie. The Masters of the Universe movie with Dolph Lundgren was a fav of mine but the abscene of she-ra killed it for me, the only reason I wanted to see it was b/c I thought she’d be there

  17. Panti Christ Says:

I still have the castle, She-Ra and Swiftwind, and that pueple haired girl…I should stage a photo sesh for you Trent!

  18. Panti Christ Says:

    p-u-r-p-l-e^

  19. Aurora Says:

I totally just watched the Christmas special this weekend! I used to listen to The Secret of the Sword on VINYL…it had still shots from the movie. I also still have my She-Ra Castle, doll, swiftwind, Kowl (athough he no longer answers yes or no) and Bo (with a BEATING heart!). I will treasure them always. So glad you were watching them too. This post made my day.

  20. Kelly Says:

I love you a little more for this Trent. I have never commented but this just needed some He-man love. I even named my first car Cringer! You are right, so cheesy but even my 4 year old LOVES it. It ends each show with a “moral of the story,” it doesn’t get better than that. He runs around with a sword yelling “BY THE POWER OF GREY SKULL…….. I HAVE THE POOOOOOOWER.” He-man/She-ra FOREVER. Thank you for making my day.
