Clay Aiken Gets His Own Sardi’s Caricature
He's tiny, he's toony

Clay Aiken, who made headlines earlier this year after he fathered a child he named Parker with is friend Jaymes Foster and then came out of the closet as a gay man, was honored by the famed NYC eatery Sardi’s with his own caricature that will be hung on the restaurant walls with the other famed caricatures of Broadway stars from days of yore. Here are a couple pics of Clay proudly showing off his Sardi’s caricature in NYC earlier this week:

“American Idol” finalist Clay Aiken, who currently portrays Sir Robin in Monty Python’s Spamalot, was honored Dec. 23 with a caricature that now adorns the walls of the famed eatery Sardi’s. As a recording artist, Aiken has sold six million albums. His latest, “On My Way Here,” was released last spring. He co-authored the best selling book “Learning to Sing: Hearing the Music in Your Life” and has played six sold-out concert tours since rising to fame on the second season of “American Idol” in 2003. Aiken made his Broadway debut in Spamalot in a Jan. 18-May 4 limited engagement. He returned to the show Sept. 19 and will remain in the role through Jan. 4, 2009. Spamalot, which will end its Broadway run Jan. 11, 2009, plays the Shubert Theatre at 225 West 44th Street.

Honestly, it is quite an honor to be honored with a caricature that will hang at Sardi’s … not quite sure that Clay Aiken‘s Broadway talents are really worthy of such an honor (IMHO) but it’s very nice that he got one nonetheless. After the jump, check out a larger version of his Sardi’s caricature so that you can compare it with the real thing …

Um … yeah, I’ve got mad respect for Clay for coming out the closet and everything … and I’m really not trying to hate but … this caricature looks amazing — he looks cute — and not at all anything like he does in real life. Props to the artist who drew this cartoony version of Clay cuz he really outdid himself. I mean, I suppose I can see a resemblance but, yeah, the caricature is a very nice one. Clay should be pleased.

    Tee hee!

  3. Dana says:

I thought caricatures were supposed to be cartoony drawings that exaggerate certain features of a person… this just looks like a drawing of Clay Aiken. He should be hanging on the wall instead.

  4. mac says:

it looks more like zac efron than clay aiken lol!

  5. Brenda says:

Agree with you, Trent — Clay Aiken doesn’t strike me as Broadway enough to be on Sardi’s wall. Maybe he ate there a lot.

  6. nicole says:

it looks like a younger aiken.

  7. moi says:

    @ Dana – I agree – looks more like a Portrait than a Caricature to me…

It looks just like him. If the gossip media were to publish pictures of him that were not chosen to be unflattering all the time you would see that it is a good depiction of him.

He got great reviews and was very good as Sir Robin. He deserves this honor.

  9. Manny says:

Oh and he’s over 6’1″ tall which isn’t exactly tiny.

Clay looks like he should have a vagina.

  11. Joanne says:

Leave him alone … he’s looking good – and happy.

Actually, I went to the show and he did a really good job. He fit right in from the start and that’s with an established cast. He has great timing, he has good instincts, and he absolutely put the time in…no special favors for him. Thank gawd he doesn’t eat sushi….that mercury poisoning is a bitch on Broadway.:-)

Nah, he’s done a lot in his short time there…the drawing is earned, imo. He gave a lot of time to Broadway Cares, earning upwards of $100,000 for their work solely based on who he is. Niiiice.

Trent, you should have gone to see the show while you were in NY. It’s great as a whole…the actors in it are top notch and it’s ridiculously funny. Love it.
