I agree with Trent. Even though people may be worried about the characters [Bella being so wrapped up in Edward for instance], all I know is that my little sister [she's 16] hated reading. She’s been reading the 5th book in the Harry Potter series for 2 years now. It’s so hard for her to stay focused. I read Twilight and I begged her to start reading it and a couple of days later she asked for my book. She started reading it on a Wednesday and was finished with it by Saturday, then she asked me for the second book. I was so proud of her because for her to be able to do that was a really big deal. I’m totally happy there is so much hype over this movie, hopefully it will make kids who haven’t read the books get out there and read them. I know after I saw the movie I’d do that because I absolutely hate sitting around to find out whats going to happen lol.

I will NOT be seeing this movie…I read the series and liked it, but I think Kristin Stewart as Bella is a TERRIBLE choice and I hate that she looks miserable whenever anyone photographs her. I like the way I pictured this book in my head much better than what I’ve seen in the previews of this movie.

Also, while I did like the books, Zoe is right…Bella is consistently the victim, and she can’t hold herself together without her man…its not a healthy thing to teach young girls that if they don’t have a man in their lives they have nothing at all.

what about harry potter? millions of kids, teens, AND adults read that series. it’s better written and more interesting. twilight will never be as big as harry potter.

I think something that everyone has failed to consider is the mysoginy associated with this series. Vampire culture aside, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was able to transport you into another “fantasy” realm without relegating females to the character of hopeless victim. Bella Swan’s character is underdeveloped and stereotypical; she does nothing but wait around for her vampire lover Edward to come by and take her somewhere magical and dangerous, which in itself is not interesting, but she also allows herself to be abused physically and emotionally by Edward, setting an alarming trend for the thousands of young girls reading the novel. Adults, I would hope, are more critical of these sorts of themes. If you know a young woman who is reading this series, talk to her about her perceptions on the relationships between men and women, and ensure that popular culture doesn’t infiltrate our way of life any more than it already has.
And don’t yell at me for being on a pop culture website, I’m interested in all sorts of things and at least I’m media critical.

I gotta say I wasn’t going to jump on the Twilight bandwagon but a friend convinced me and now I’m feverishly trying to get the book finished in time for the movie! Although I will say that as I read it (I’m around p. 200) one part of my brain is wanting them to just jump on each other and the other part of me is wondering if Bella has never seen Buffy since we all know from that and Angel that unfortunately Vampires and humans aren’t really a good idea… Ok I need to go finish the book now before my head explodes!

To each his own. I’ve read the books, and while I tend to side with jem’s argument, I don’t think you can simply dismiss a book with such an impact. I do, however, have to say that I’m not particularly fond of this series. I would much prefer a book with character development, fewer grammatical errors, and one that has a bit more literary merit. OMG I CANT WAIT!!! I already bought my ticket, now its just waiting =( Im so nervous that the lines will be so long i’ll miss part of the movie, and i really really hope not, because then ill have to pay ten dollars again and wait for the next showing, which i would do anyways, but id rather get in easily the first time around! I hope people dont scream in the theater, they will be damned if they make me miss something! Rob looks great! he always looks completely terrified in his interviews and at appearances but i guess all of us twilighters mobbing around them can be scary =D But we assure you Rob, we dont want to hurt you, just meet you! haha I wish kristen would look happy though she always looks pissed and annoyed at every appearance, in every picture, and in every interview! It makes it seem like she doesnt care about this film at all! well, maybe she doesnt, who knows!

Oh and the whole Kristan thing, i believe that just the way she is. I mean she basically doesnt haven’t to get into charater for alot of her roles….I mean look at her role in The Messagners she was that out of whack chick that was always in bad moods…..BUt fuck her as long as she makes the movie good im happy

I just started reading the first book of the saga and im already hooked. From the trailer to the actual movie it seems like alot of it will be the same. Trent is right, its about time that kids are getting into reading, I mean look at the Harry Potter mania!!! I will wait till the movie is out on DVD just cause I know its going to be crazy out there. I can’t wait to finish my first book and start on the others….LOVE LOVE LOVE the story line and Im glad I picked up the book..

Yeah for books. Its worth noting that they had this kind of hype when the books came out too so its not just about the movie. And I agree with other posters on Kristen Stewart’s angst. She’s great but I cant stand reading her interviews. If she doesnt perform then I am forced to hate her for being such a brat about it. And if she cant handle the fans then why did she pick a movie based on a book that has such a devoted fan base?

I agree Trent- its awesome that all this hype is over a book! and though it may not be shakespear, its NO cosmo. I cannot wait until my daughter is old enough to read these books. And we do not need “higher standards” of reading. thats the most ridiculous thing i’ve ever heard. bit snobby, too.

I have read all the books including the incomplete Edward’s point of you of the first book Midnight Sun. I am alomost 29 and I am so thrilled to see this movie. Its not just for teens. Even my mom is dying to see it. I bought tickets for Friday morning already!

Sooo..I have a 12 year old boy and have been urging him to read this series..I haven’t read it myself but have heard such great things..My question is, would a boy be into this? Isn’t it kind of a love story? That’s what I get from all the hype around the movie..He’s just finishing The Pigman and needs another book, but he’s so picky that it’s hard finding stuff to keep his attention! I can’t belive how big this has gotten. I read the first book, when it first came out. No one I talked to knew about it. Now its soo popular. As it should be I love this book series. Mind you I have always loved all things vampier. Its just this book series is so well written, and I love the story line and the place it brings you when you read it. Its like being there. I love it, and I’m 21 :)

if TRENT could pass one thing along from his web blog to KRISTEN STEWART it would be to cheer up. It really freaking annoys me to see her look so miserable all the time in every photo shoot, every interview, or candid shot the papparazzi catch. When I found out they cast her as Bella, I wasn’t happy at all, but I said hey, maybe this wont be so bad, maybe she can play a good Bella. Well, I sure hope her performance is more than run of the mill, cuz with the way she has been presenting herself to the public lately, I am a bit less excited and a lil less than thrilled to see her as Bella. CHEER THE FRICK UP KRISTEN! Geeze -.-
