Tom Cruise Does ‘Details’ Magazine
The 'Power' Issue

Tom Cruise is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Details magazine — The Power Issue. Each year, Details complies a list of the 40 Most Influential Men in the World (you may recall that Kevin Federline was the coverboy for last year’s issue) and has chosen #7 ranked Cruise for the cover:

From the mag: When Barack Obama declared “We are the change we’ve been waiting for,” the pundits scratched their heads. In retrospect, though, it seems as if That One was onto something. For better or worse, we’re living through a moment of intense transformation. In politics, the Bush years have been dustbinned. As far as the economy goes, the heady days of hedge-fund excess have been reduced to burnt toast. And from a Madonna standpoint, the Guy Ritchie era has been swept away. “The Power 40″ reflects this whiplash-inducing volatility. Many of the usual suspects have been replaced with an array of wild cards and agents of change. A home-wrecking home-run hitter? Check. Tech guys who have all of tweendom a-Twitter? Yup. Buddhists with bombs? Uh-huh. This year proved you can never be sure of what comes next (hell, Chinese Democracy finally showed up, didn’t it?). The whole point of power, after all, is to keep ‘em guessing.

Yay! The Twitter guys get my vote … they rule … oh yeah, and the Obama guys, too! I don’t really get why Tom Cruise won the cover of this issue (then again, I didn’t get why K-Fed won his cover last year) but I guess it’s better than putting the so-called “Press Whore” on the cover. After the jump, check out the photo of Tommy that is featured inside the mag along with a portion of the blurb about his power and influence

“Listen, I have Suri right here, who’s falling asleep,” Tom Cruise says sotto voce. He wants you to know that he’s not speaking softly to sound intense. Suri murmurs. Something about scissors. “What? You don’t want to get your hair cut?” Cruise is apologetic—he asks, “Do you have kids?” The most powerful star in the world really doesn’t want you to think his cherubic daughter’s feelings about bangs rule his life. Or maybe that’s precisely what he does want you to think. There’s always an ulterior motive with Tom Cruise, right?

Blah, blah … the blurb goes on HERE. I’m kinda over Tom Cruise so I really wish they would’ve put someone else more interesting on the cover — like maybe Larry Rudolph, perhaps?

What do y’all think … is Tom Cruise worthy of this Details magazine cover?

Im just wondering what Tom Cruise has done at all this year? The only thing im coming up with is his cameo role in Tropic Thunder but thats it. So I dont see what would make him influential or interesting at all.

  2. Nicola says:

Heh looks photoshopped somehow…I mean, Tom’s face is rather porky these days, and he looks generally attractive on the cover. I suspect computer manipulation :P

  3. Samantha says:

Wow, he looks great on that cover shot. I haven’t been paying much attention to him lately so I wouldn’t know how he usually looks

  4. PixieBassline says:

    uhg.

  5. Kammie says:

this is the first time I’ve thought about Tom Cruise in months

  6. La Princesa says:

I don’t know how he’s so powerful, but then I didn’t get how KFed was the cover boy last year!

And John Mayer was #11….what’s up with that???

  7. Posh says:

Aww, this interview made me think of Tom pre-Katie and all of the crazy nonsense, back when he was just Maverick.

  8. Joanne says:

The most powerful star on the planet??? Between Oprah’s nauseating need to hype her ‘friend’ on her show and the media constantly telling us that he (apparently) rules the world? …. I just don’t get it!!

  9. elle says:

Is it just me or does his cover shot scream QUEEN! lol

  10. BB says:

Okay, I’m starting to think I’m the only person left who still likes him. I think he’s made some STUPID mistakes, sure. BUT, I think in him, is someone who genuinely TRIES to do the right thing. How many other celebrities are out drunk, arrested, cheating, drug abusers, bigots, spouse abusers, rapists, even killers! Somehow people look over THEIR “indiscretions”, but yet a man who actually puts forth effor to make the world a better place, (though admittedly neurotic), we VILIFY him.
