Four months ago Thomas Beatie, the transgendered person more famously known as the “Pregnant Man”, gave birth to his first child with his wife Nancy Beatie. Susan Juliette was born on July 3 to much fanfare and was introduced to the world about 3 weeks later. This week, the Beaties show off little Susan Juliette to Barbara Walters on ABC‘s 20/20 and share a bit of exciting news — the “Pregnant Man” is pregnant again:
Thomas Beatie, the controversial “pregnant man” who gave birth to a daughter earlier this year, reveals to Barbara Walters in an exclusive interview that he is pregnant again with his second child. Thomas Beatie, a transgender, welcomed a baby girl, Susan, June 29. Since sharing the story of Susan’s birth with ABC News, he and his wife, Nancy Beatie, hadn’t spoken to the media until they sat down last month with Walters. Thomas Beatie, who is in his first trimester, tells Walters he did not go back on the male hormone testosterone after Susan’s birth so he could have another baby. “I feel good,” he said. “I had my checkups with my hormone level, as far as the HCG. And everything is right on track.” He says the baby is due June 12. Thomas Beatie also spoke to Walters about Susan’s birth, which was not via Caesarean section. He was in labor for 40 hours; Nancy Beatie cut the umbilical cord.
I mean … why not, right? It sounds like the Beaties are very interested in having as normal a family life as they can (with the 2 1/2 children and all) considering the man in the relationship is the one having the kids. They look really happy and it goes to show that the power of love knows no bounds. I gotta say that I think the fam should be commended for keeping out of the public spotlight for as much as they have. Except for the handful of interviews they’ve done with ABC, People magazine, etc. they’ve really stayed out of the limelight (this is the first we’ve heard from the family since the baby’s birth in July). It gives me great pleasure to be among the first folks to congratulate them on the impending arrival of their second child and wish them all the happiness in the world!!

To Matt- #1, it is spelled MORMONS. #2- You clearly are ignorant if you are still Mormon bashing after the whole Prop 8 thing. The church itself did not spend a dime for Prop 8. They were also instructed NOT to give political opinions in church and to vote as they wanted. The people who voted their different ways and donated money out of their own pockets to fund different things did so on thier own accord. 2 words- Fact Check. It helps if its from legit sources, too, and not Perez Hilton.
Secondly, I think it is strange that they consider this a “man” when he still has a vagina and is able to give birth naturally. He is still genetically and physically male, even if he no longer has breasts and is on hormone therapy, he is not a male yet. It perplexes me. Granted, I am happy that there are loving people in this world having children. I have no problem with him having kids (and yes, I am Mormon, in case anyone wanted to bash on us and our “beliefs”). I wish more loving couples, gay or straight, were raising kids, as I think its a major problem in society that kids are growing up without loving guidance. However, I do have a problem calling this person a man when he is not. At least not yet.
This moron is NOT a man. MEN cannot get pregnant – it is physiologicaly impossible. Men lack a uterus – at last check, it was a fairly important component of being pregnant. This is just another cry for attention from a sick person.

Um I don’t understand how these two can be legally married and other gay couples cannot…So if you grow a little facial hair, but keep your vagina, then it’s okay to marry another woman?
It’s NOT a man…a man can’t get pregnant. I am not sure why she is labeled as a ‘man’. If she can pop out kids, she’s a woman.

A MAN DID NOT HAVE A BABY!! Just because SHE has facial hair and wants to be a man doesn’t make it so. If they truly wanted to live a normal life as man and wife then they wouldn’t be making a mockery of the birth of their child. They are just trying to make money off of their freak show!!
Karen, do you not realize that Jamie Lynn is 17 years old?! Of course everyone was givng her flack about possibly being preggs again!! This couple is married and stable and evidently full of love so why shouldn’t they grow their family while they have the chance?! Yeah, lets give support to a 17 unmarried, immature CHILD having her second child. UGH.

I agree with you Lady J. These kids are going to cop it when they get to school. Even though the times are a-changing, albeit slowly, people will always talk and ridicule and I think these little kids are really going to have to have thick skins later on in life.
I also believe you can’t have it both ways. If you want to be a man, then be one. Get rid of all of the female bits you’ve obviously hated. You can’t be both man and woman. Just my opinion.

People also gave crap to Britney and a lot of other people who give birth so soon after have a child. I was just commenting because people were saying it was because Jamie Lynn was stupid and young that she was having another kid so close to the birth of her other child. What about the Beaties? They aren’t young and they needed IVF to get pregnant so it could not have been a ‘mistake.’ There are studies that show it healthy for mom or baby to have kids so close together. BTW I didn’t say that I supported Jamie Lynn Spears or young unmarried teenagers getting pregnant.

This story would not be such a big deal if the media would just stop headlining every story about these people with ‘pregnant man’. I blame OPRAH!! She introduced them on the show by saying “a man is pregnant” (and of course the audience gasped). Instead of just EXPLAINING the issue of transgendered people (to an ignorant public), she exploited this story and set the tone for the way the media talks about this.
not healthy to have babies so close together for any woman or person capable of having children. they should have waited two years and then done it again. but oh well. good for them if this is what they want. best of luck to them all. they look very happy and the baby is adorable.
I agree with Joanne. He is transgendered – a person who was born female, now living their life out as a man. I think it’s kind of rare for someone who is taking male hormones to actually WANT to carry and give birth to a baby. It’s a pretty unique story. It is confusing but at the same time, it challenges me to think outside of these constructs and labels we are so rigid about. They look happy. The baby is beautiful and healthy. They’re doing something right. I worry more about the Jolie-Pitts children constantly being chased by the Paps, parents moving them all over the place, different people in and out of their lives. I bet you their lives are going to be a lot harder!
I have absolutely no problem with these two having children. More power to them.
What I DO have a huge problem with is the way they are whoring themselves out to the media. That’s probably why they’re having another baby so soon- the money stopped coming in. I’m sure there’s already a book deal in the works too.

Guys…SHE is not a man…SHE can only get pregnant as a woman…this is ridiculous…its one thing to have a child in this unusual way but its another thing to parade this in the media and still trying to portray yourself as this “normal” family. This is so not kosher.
