The Longest Flight Ever
Welp, I made it to Detroit safe and sound just after midnight ET last night. While the flight from LA to Detroit is only 4 hours long, last night’s flight felt like double that time. Ugh. I was seated (in the aisle seat, thankfully) next to a very creepy guy who did nothing but stare past me at the family seated across from us for the entire flight. It was very disconcerting. I kept trying to read and not notice him out of my peripheral vision. I’m not even exaggerating … if I would sit up or lean forward, he would have to adjust to regain his line of sight with the family (two parents, two kids). I did manage to be distracted a bit by the wonderful goods for sale in the Sky Mall catalog. I was most impressed by the Digital Camera Swim Mask (which allows you to take photos and videos while underwater) and most grossed out by the Ashes Pendant (which allows you to conveinently carry a portion of your loved one’s ashes around your neck):

I’m always so impressed with the ingenious products that are sold exclusively in the Sky Mall catalog. OY … you see the things you learn when you travel all the time?
Tonight I’m meeting up with my peeps to attend a fund-raising event orchestrated by our friend Tara in memory of her late mother. It’s an annual event that she organizes every November and this is the first time I’ve been able to attend. I’m really looking forward to it. I’m also very happy to learn that Detroit isn’t as cold as I feared it would be. It’s rainy and dreary but not as freezing as I thought so … I’m just gonna enjoy it :) Have a great weekend, y’all!!

eww … that’s so creepy – about the ashes necklace and the major creeper that you had to deal with. at least you were partically blocking his vision of the kids across from you.

my roommate has a necklace and carries some of his fathers ashes with him. It just looks like a wooden piece of jewelry, you wouldn’t know it if you saw it. i don’t see what the big deal is.

I carry my Dads ashes in a tear drop ashes pendant it’s luckily a trinity set and hold valuable symbology.
The Tear= I held out being the tough and strong and when my Dad passed away in June it took till August to cry about him.
The Cross= My Brother holds, being the most masculine and only one that keeps Catholic.
The Heart=givin to sis who was five when Dad was found by her, she’s very innocent to have saw that, and she’s the one that will be the closest to him always with the natural youth of her ability to unconditionaly Love, even if he’s gone.
I think an ash pendant doesn’t have to be seen as discusting but a real symbol, there always with you when your down.

Ugh the worst creepsters are always somewhere you can’t escape from. It’s not like you can jump out of the plane LOL. I always find creepsters at the DMV. Blech.

Trent, I’m sure you know this already but…if you’re in Ann Arbor today, the Prop H8 protest starts at the post office on Liberty right after the U of M game (4:00ish).

Okay, not to be a wet blanket but I’m a little offended about the mean comments regarding the ash pendants. My mom, who was also my best friend, died in 2004 and I have worn a necklace with her ashes in it ever since. Not a day goes by that I don’t wear it and it comforts me to know that she’s always with me, right next to my heart. It might be a little non-conventional but it’s hardly creepy. When you lose someone so young that you love so much you take whatever you can get. Instead of knocking it be glad that you don’t have to wear one of someone you love.

I’m not trying at all to make mean comments about the people who choose to wear them, I was merely stating that it’s not something that I would ever want to do and is no reflection on the folks that would choose to do so. Trust me, I am very thankful that I have not lost anyone close to me.

Just want to give you a hug Zac, My Dad died when he was just 42, I was raised by him mostly my Mom worked abraud, I never thought I was much like him till he passed away I relized how much values he’s instilled in me to pass on his great volunteer work and legacy. Like your Mom he was my best Dad’N'friend.
Fair enough Trent, just would hate someone asking me about my necklace and explaining it and all I’d get is a face full of sour.
