‘The Hills’: Dumbest.Storyline.Ever.
Last night’s ep of The Hills felt to me like the most contrived episode of the series that has ever aired. Now, there have been a lot of Hills eps where the “reality” didn’t seem so real and I may have questioned the honesty of some storylines but last night’s ep really takes the cake. To call it laughable would be an understatement:

Essentially, the crux of last night’s ep dealt with a rumor that Audrina Patridge heard from a “friend” of hers named Dino (who has never appeared on the show, mind you) that detailed a supposed “hook-up” between Lauren LC Conrad and Justin Bobby. When this ridic rumor actually spilled out into the real life tabloids and media (Audrina even went on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to cry on national TV before she even spoke face-to-face with LC about the matter), I honestly didn’t pay it any mind — there was no way I was gonna buy any rumor that LC would deign to even touch Justin Bobby if she didn’t have to. Apparently, the producers of the show figured The Hills audience would be stupid enough to believe the storyline and featured it last night. After the jump, if you still care, find out what went down between who on last night’s ep titled You Did This …

This whole thing is so stupid that I feel insulted that I even have to talk about it. It seems SO CONTRIVED that Audrina would take the word over some guy we never even heard about over that of her best friend — actually, that she would even entertain the notion that LC would even dream of slumming with Justin Bobby is stupid. In the 4 season history of the show, I’ve never felt like I was being force-fed a storyline like I did last night. AND to top it off, Audrina couldn’t even act out her fake drama in any believable fashion! It angers me to think that the producers of the show would treat their audience like this. There wasn’t a thing about last night’s ep that I liked … except for the scene where LC told Audrina she would never hook-up with Justin Bobby because he “digusts” her. That was the sole believable part about last night’s ep.
I dunno, y’all … my interest level in the show has nose-dived and it doesn’t look like it’s gonna get better anytime soon. Next week’s ep features Nana Pratt? Seriously? That’s the highpoint? As I said before, I’ll stick with the show til the end of this season … beyond that, I’m not sure.
What did y’all think? Did we like? Dislike? Not even tune in? Any ideas who that creepily sandwiched in lady sitting between LC and Audrina was? Script-writer, perhaps?

i agree, so ridic
but i was also thinking the same thing about grandma pratt next week!! i was like, really??
idk about next season for me….
November 25th, 2008 at 11:53 am
Aww.. that was a little harsh. I enjoyed this episode a lot and yes, I even cried a little at the end. Yes, it’s stupid that Audrina would believe a rumor like that (and I do believe she probably made it up to get publicity for herself), but it must hurt LC still that a “friend” would make up lies and ruin that friendship just so that they can gain more screen time.
I also didn’t realize that Justin can actually form a coherent thought and I thought LC was right to defend herself and get mad. It must be hard to make friends when most of them seem to want to use her for fame. I miss Whitney!
November 25th, 2008 at 11:54 am
Actually…I liked this episode a lot compared to recent ones. Stuff actually HAPPENED in it!
November 25th, 2008 at 11:54 am
Did you watch the aftershow with Holly? She started crying a little when they told her that Speidi got married on Thursday.
And I agree about the ep..sooo fake!
November 25th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
I dunno – I have to disagree! I was actually thoroughly entertained by last night’s ep. At least SOMETHING happened, versus the previous eps in which Heidi gets ‘fired’ then ‘rehired’ and Stephanie does nothing and Spencer is shady and Lauren is pensive and Whitney reacts and Audrina complains about meaningless boys. And Audrina and LC are not best friends – as we all now Audrina was hired poolside to play the part of LC’s bff. She has been dating Justin just as long as she has known LC, so why not believe his good friend? Plus, we don’t know just how detailed this mystery man’s account was…maybe it somehow sounded legit? Imagine hearing from a reliable acquaintance that your guy/girl hooked up with your friend. Tell me you wouldn’t at least consider it for a sec…??
November 25th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
I actually liked the episode, like the other girl said, they’re was actually some sort of drama happening! And even if producers made that up or told Dino to say that or whatever, i think audrinas really stupid enough to believe that. You could tell when lauren was talking to Lo about it in her room (which was a hilarious scene) that she was being real, that it really hurt her. And those weren’t fake tears at the end. Your being way harsh on the show.
November 25th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
That was laurens whole point, the rumor was so utterly ridiculous to people who have some common sense. Audrina obviously believed it, which is why she was so mad
November 25th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
Both Justin and Lauren were SO defensive though. Like if the rumor was so unbelievably ridiculous to them, then as good friends, they should just laugh it off and make fun of Audrina for believing it and move on. Why turn it on her and accuse her of this and that. I think JB and LC were more concerned about their resulting media images than Audrina’s feelings.
November 25th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
OMG
#1- Lo’s reaction in the beginning was ridiculous slash classic!
#2- Why didn’t Holly call her sister to see if they could talk? Who drives to someone’s house without knowing if he/she is home?
#3- I wish I were as crazy as Audrina.
November 25th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
I don’t know. I thought Lauren and Justin’s reactions seemed pretty real. At least Lauren’s did. You could tell she was sincerely hurt/pissed that Audrina would believe such a crazy rumor and spread it around to everyone. It just made me dislike Audrina… pretty much the only characters I still like are Lauren, Brody, Frankie, and Holly.
November 25th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
I think Lauren does have the tendency to be shady.
Don’t you remember how she was always after Stephen in Laguna Beach even when he was totally dedicated to Kristin. I have always liked Lauren but find her personality boring and dull. She whines all the time. The reason I like watching her is because she is pretty and does fun things. I heard the hook up occured in Las Vegas…I could picture her getting drunk and totally hooking up with JB. Shady.
November 25th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
Who The Eff Is That???? If you don’t know you aint hollywood dog. That girl is a hollywood regular.
November 25th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
semi-related hills question…in the pics of the wedding that have been made public so far, Heidi looks to be concealing a bump. That would be so awful.
November 25th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
Jo –
Lauren has made it plain throughout every single episode of The Hills that she despises Justin and is disgusted by him – and she did initially “laugh it off” to Audrina when Audrina asked her the first time if she’d hooked up with him, but when she asked multiple times, and called basically everyone they knew to spread it around after Lauren had already said no, then, you know, it becomes a little less funny.
Honestly, Audrina and her sister are insane – if you hear a rumor that you consider absurd (as Audrina’s giant-headed sister said it was) then you ignore it and regard it for what it is, you don’t take it seriously and ask your good friend, who’s never given you a reason not to trust her, and your non-boyfriend boyfriend, if it’s true. If it’s absurd, it doesn’t deserve attention. Aside from this jackass Dino, who’s never been mentioned before, Lauren and Justin have never given Audrina any reason to not trust them together (and all of Audrina’s comments on last night’s ep make it clear that she is a hypocritical liar; she said Lauren and Justin have flirted in the past, but every single thing Audrina has ever said about Justin and Lauren together has been about how much Lauren hates Justin, so I don’t really see how that now becomes frequent past flirting). To justify Audrina’s appalling behaviour is to suggest that Lauren has ever a) done anything to not deserve her trust and b) show interest in Justin Bobby, and she has never done either. Audrina is as desperate rfor fame as Heidi, and is prepared to do whatever she has to in order to make herself seem more interesting, even if that includes hurting her friends – and whether or not Audrina was hired to be a friend to Lauren is irrelevant; Lauren cannot stand Justin and has always been vocal about that, and she didn’t deserve to be accused by Audrina. If I’d heard from a “reliable” source that my friend who hates my non-boyfriend had hooked up with him, I wouldn’t consider that source “reliable”, is what I’d do – I wouldn’t call my friend and non-boyfriend and accuse them, call everyone else I know and spread it around, and then go on national television (i.e. Ellen DeGeneres’s show) and discuss it further. Audrina is a pathetic, desperately insecure person for having behaved this way – and if it’s all for TV, so much the worse, because she’s prepared to do this kind of stuff, or pretend to, for fame and money.
November 25th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
This was probably the most annoying episode of the Hills EVER. Clearly Audrina knows she needs to work her way in anyway and this is her genious plan. I LOVED Lauren when she was like ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!? He’s digusting. Obviously. Audrina is such an idiot. I love how she kept saying the same thing over and over and over and Lauren was like WTF!?
November 25th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
LOL. I am so not Hollywood :)
November 25th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
I totally agree with Trent. That show is so fake. I can’t even believe LC is agreeing to do it anymore. With each new show, I lose a bit of respect for all involved.
November 25th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
Who cares if it’s real or not real? Drama is drama. And we all watch it, so let’s see what nana Pratt has in store for us!!
November 25th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
I don’t know Trent… Lauren did seem genuinely hurt, and Justin was actually not a complete dumbass (haha), so I found it to be an interesting episode. I’m not so sure how contrived that particular plotline is, but there is a chance given the fact that most of the show is probably contrived. Having accepted that, I don’t feel insulted. I don’t take the show that seriously and enjoy watching this group of people awkwardly interact for 20 minutes, haha. And personally, I like the Audrina & Justin storyline…
PS: Christine, AMEN.
November 25th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
But I will say, the only fake part of this show that does get on my nerves is Heidi’s “sympathetic” pout. UGH.
November 25th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
Christine – Fair enough – you make some good points. And I’m not about to get into deep character analysis with the characters on the Hills, haha. But to one point, LC despises Justin because she seems to despise to boyfriends of all of her female friends as they come between her and her overbearing friendships. Granted, she has made a few cracks about his hygiene, but I don’t think she’s above a drunken makeout session. I mean, just look at Jason. She definitely cannot argue that he taste is far superior to the likes of Justin Bobby. But I agree nonetheless that it is very possible Audrina is just fame-whoring it out in an attempt to make herself more interesting on the show. In my opinion, it worked – whether for better or worse.
November 25th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
i think that was the best JB has ever looked LOL
November 25th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
Trent I so agree with you, this show is way to fake.
November 25th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
i actually really like the episode! i felt so sorry for holly in the aftershow!! heidi and spencer are so selfish i cant stand them. and holly is still sooooo nice! after everything they have done to her.
November 25th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
I actually thought that this was the best episode this season! Audrina is an idiot!! How many times does everyone have to tell her that nothing happened??!!! The girl is so insecure!!! Geez….I even like Justin-Bobby this episode! I loved how he told Audrina off!
November 25th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
the best part of the show hands down was when holly brought up to heidi that she thought she had an office. and then heidi like half pretended to make a sentence to explain her stupidity. hah
November 25th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
last nights episode was so bad it was funny
“I thought you had an office?” LOL
and seriously? nanna pratt? really?
blah
although this ep was the one time when i though justin bobby sounded smart
November 25th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Did you see when Audrina got up after their bar fight to walk away from the table and when she faces the camera she is smiling. I rewound and paused it to be sure. What an idiot. Maybe she should be more concerned about the fact that her eyes dont touch the bottom of her lids.
November 25th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
I hate to say it, but i also think the show is getting way too fake….like Trent said, the whole thing just seemed so forced.
I did like the part when Holly asked Heidi about her office though…hahaha classic
November 25th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
HUGE editing error: when Holly visited Heidi at work, Heidi had on outfit #1. When Heidi gets home and talks to Spencer on same day, she has different hair and outfit. OOPS.
November 25th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
The only thing real last night was Audrina’s serious lack of self esteem and her huge bundle of insecurities.
November 25th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
oh, i think they did it….drunk, did it, regretted, agreed to deny, deny, deny. (been there done that – not proud, but true)
November 25th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
I enjoyed it, obviously Audrina really believed it and if I was Lauren I’d be freaking peeved too!
It was so entertaining, a great episode!
My roommates commented on Holly visiting Heidi without calling, but it looks better on TV having people meet in person than talk on the phone so I’m sure the producers just convinced her to stop by
Audrina shouldn’t have gone blabbing to the media about everything especially since she has no proof of what lauren did.
November 25th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
Honestly, I also really enjoyed watching this episode last night. Something DIFFERENT finally happened, and I was thouroughly entertained.
I think that Audrina completely over-reacted to this stupid romour. Anyone with a brain who watches the show would know that Lauren and Justin would NEVER EVER touch eachother. Audrina was completely out of line spreading this around, going on national television and totally running with this fake story. Justin made such a good point (for once) stating that Audrina freaking out did not just affect her – it has affected both LC and JB. They both deserve an apology from Audrina not only for accusing them of this, but then for not believing them when they told her it wasn’t true. I lost so much respect for Audrina in last nights ep.
November 25th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
I actually really liked last nights episode. In contrast to everyone else, I think this was the first REAL thing we’ve seen happen all season. Maybe that’s what is throwing everyone off. lol.
p.s. JB looked extra HOT last night. If that’s poor hygiene, sign me up!!
November 25th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
I liked this episode. I’m a huge fan of Lauren. I only wish I handled myself as well when I was her age!
November 25th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
Well I can’t even see this so called far fetched episode because for some reason about 4 weeks ago, MTV.com and MTV.ca stopped allowing access to the online episodes for Australians! WTF
Does anyone know where I can see the last 4 eps without any issues? Thanks!
Love love love Pink is the new blog!
MWAH
November 25th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
im not sure if we’re supose to believe heidi returned from work after talking to holly, bc her hair and dress have changed… but knowing the Hills we are.. and they no longer even care about continutiy in their editing.
and yea i enjoyed tonights ep, fake or real
November 25th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
Jo – I agree that Lauren isn’t always the easiest person to get along with, but to say that she hates all of her friends’ boyfriends is a bit of an overstatement – she hates Spencer because he’s the world’s biggest douche, and until it didn’t suit her to anymore, Audrina hated Spencer too. Spencer is a poor excuse for a human being and everyone hates him…so I don’t see why Lauren’s feelings for Spencer are reflection of Lauren’s character or of how she is with her friendships. As for Justin Bobby, Audrina spends at least as much time complaining about him as she does discussing the good things he does, so it’s not hard to see why Lauren would be justified in disliking him, as well…other than those two, I can’t really think of any other boyfriends her friends have had that she’s disliked. I don’t think that makes her overbearing.
November 25th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
Uhh, I really can’t stand this show, but what I hate more is that I faithfully tune in every week. But whateves, the whole thing is fake so I don’t find the farfetched drama the producers are able to conger up. It keeps the show more interesting!
November 25th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
well i loved last nights ep cuz it was entertaining….i mean when i heard about this rumor in early october….i didnt believe it at all. LC even addressed it on her MYSPACE page i really dont think its just publicity for the show…why would they make it all up im pretty sure LC doesnt want to be seen crying again on TV. I think audrina has just lost her mind. Justin bobby actually did sound intelligent last night ….like a realperson! i think theres a side to audrina we are not seeing because of all the crap she said to LC and justin bobby off screen…..
November 25th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
i also liked last night’s epi. i thought it was too short though. yes audrina is the biggest famewhore i have ever seen and she is def way WOrse than heidi..atleast heidi is open about it…i cant stand audrina anymore and her fakeness…and
did anyone notice AUDRINA WAS SMILING WHEN SHE LEFT LC CRYING AT THE BAR!!!!!! BITCHHH
November 26th, 2008 at 1:29 am
Has anyone noticed that this Dino “character” is a lot like the Tino character on My So-Called life? In that he’s someone that everyone knows, apparently, and talks about…but is never seen or heard? haha Im just saying… and gawd could Audrina be any dumber? really it seemed like her mind was made up before she even talked to L.C or J.B! Also who the freak goes to a CLUB to have a serious conversation?!!! ai yai yai!! I love to hate this show!!
<3 B
November 26th, 2008 at 6:23 am
i love you trent but I disagree. I think Audrina went off the deep end. I don’t think she was acting, I think since moving out of LC’s she may feel left out or not as close- and justin keeps her hanging on a string- couple those two together with this rumor, I think Audrina believed it because she is insecure with both relationships. I also think she acted like a total beytoch about it when talking to Lauren!! Audrina makes me sick, she hangs out with spencer and heidi – hello doesn’t she memba how spencer was hitting on her all the while he first began dating heidi? and Heidi she’s pathetic she totally deserves a life with spencer, he is a tool and she is his box.
November 26th, 2008 at 7:25 am
yeah, the reason this ep seems so out of place is because it reflected more “real time” drama than ever before. audrina really did make these accusations and believe it. in the ep, she refers to the two of them flirting previously. we have to remember this crew is hanging out all over l.a. at various events, and it was reported in the late summer audrina complaining about lc and jb flirting at some poolside event.
this whole thing just shows how UBER insecure audrina is.
but yeah, it was all real, popsugar showed photos of lc and lo leaving winstons with lc totally sincerely crying. and jb ROCKED when telling audrina off. i’ve always thought she was pretty dumb, but she just proved herself to be dumb as bricks.
November 26th, 2008 at 7:41 am
Christine –
I mean there’s really no point in even arguing about it, because there is SO much we don’t see on this crazy show. Like the fact that Lauren is (or was?) dating Kyle Howard and that she probably reacted the way she did more because the rumor threatens that relationship rather than the one between her and Audrina. My real beef with the show is that they have become too famous for the show to remain even moderately sustainable without addressing the fact that they are bonafide celebrities now and what we see is NOT their current lifestyle.
November 26th, 2008 at 8:25 am
Jo – I totally agree with you. I just get a little tired of people (in general, not you specifically at all) justifying the kind of behaviour Audrina exhibits, whether it’s real or fake. Lauren is fortunate enough to be famous in her own right and doesn’t need to resort to the kinds of things Heidi and Audrina do to keep herself in the public eye – assuming that these things are not real, and are just publicity stunts. If they are real – well, I’ve pretty much already made my feelings about Heidi and Audrina clear. Lauren can date Kyle Howard, shop, design her clothes, and people care (enough to still read articles about her, anyway) – but Audrina has to either act like a whore on TV or hurt her friends, and Heidi has to be with Spencer in order for either of them to remain famous. Lauren may not have to act like a crazy, mean-spirited bitch to get herself press, but frankly I don’t think she would even if she did have to. Audrina, on the other hand….
November 26th, 2008 at 8:35 am
ok i watched it too, and i’m with LC, she had already told Audrina no several times before that it was a ridiculous rumor yet Audrina kept going after her like rabid dog. “is it true, is it true, is it true” Jesus you dumb ho she just said no god knows how many times and it’s still not sinking in your shitfilled head! i dont even like LC!
November 26th, 2008 at 10:43 am
Dude I don’t know I really do think this is like contrived reality but this is probably pretty much what these kids lives are like. I’m sure “friends” tell them all sorts of stuff tying to get their 15 minutes ya know. I mean they are all this large group of sudo-famous people that all hang out in the same cirles & same clubs & just drink & party thier lives away. When I was in that kind of life style there was always tons of drama. SO just add to that people always trying to be on the Hills with them it’s a recipe for shady people & false rumors. The show is what it is & I still like to watch it. I loved Justin reaction I totally thought it was real you know right after she heard the rumor she was all drunk & called & totally cursed him out cause she has all this pent up rage towards him cause he doesn’t want to commit to her I have totally been there…. Hilarious. They’re all young and party too much I bet stuff really would be happening like this even if the producers weren’t hand picking the story lines
November 26th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
i always look forward to the hill’s night, and will stick by it until the end…but i do not take the show or any of these characters with a grain of salt. My guess is that they’re scheduled in for set times for filming the show and the rest of the time they’re out living their REAL lives. I doubt that Lauren & co. have camera crews following them around 24/7. it is purely entertainment in my mind, a guilty pleasure! but i must agree with trent, the show has taken a nose dive in this 4th season, this lack of plot is becoming rather dull :(
November 27th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Don’t watch. Don’t care.
