Kim Cattrall, who plays sex-happy Samantha Jones on Sex and the City, confirmed on the UK TV program The Paul O’Grady Show (which was guest hosted by Melanie Brown) that “Yes, there will” be a sequel to the Sex and the City Movie. She added that altho it’s difficult to get everyone’s schedules sorted out, she is “hopeful” that filming will begin next Summer:
Carrie and Co. are headed back to the big screen. During an interview on Britain’s The Paul O’Grady Show, Kim Cattrall (a.k.a. Samantha Jones) confirmed they’re shooting another big screen version of Sex and the City. “Yes, there will be a sequel,” she told her interviewer, Spice Girl Melanie Brown.
Additionally, from BBCNews: Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall has said there are plans to “hopefully” film a sequel to the hit movie about the four New York women next year. Appearing on The Paul O’Grady Show, the 52-year-old actress said: “We will do the sequel next summer.” However, she said it was “difficult getting everybody who’s so incredibly busy all together at the same time” … Cattrall said everyone was committed to the first film and that they were planning to do it again. “We wanted to the first time, and now we’re hopefully doing it again for the second time”.
Oh yeah, this is great news … altho not really surprising, I am very happy that someone in the know is finally talking about a sequel to this year’s SaTC Movie. Now, don’t be surprised if we hear a new report later on refuting talk of a sequel … mebbe someone will be quoted as saying, “I have not been contacted to do another movie” … the back and forth about Will there or Won’t there be a movie is part of the game. I’m pretty confident that we will be seeing Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte on the big screen again very soon. I’m hoping that Sex and the City 2 will be hitting movie theaters by Xmas 2009 :)
I am torn about this. While I love SATC, I worry that another movie will jump the shark for good. There is something to be said about bowing out gracefully.

I really, really, really loved the series. But the movie? It didn’t really impress me. I felt like it took the characters in directions that weren’t authentic. I don’t want to detail specifics, because I might spoil it for someone who has yet to see the movie. I just didn’t think that the movie did the show justice. There were several plot points that made me angry, and it was a bit depressing in parts. So, I am a little worried about a sequel, because I was disappointed by the movie.

She has been so busy this year. I keep seeing her all round the world. She is at fashion shows, openings, starring in films, I mean I just got her voice on my GPS from Navtones.com even.

I agree with Ali! I felt the movie went for too many cheap jokes and the cheesy, swelling movie music really irked me (then again, in the group of 6 people I saw it with…I was the only one who felt this way).
My first concern with the sequel isn’t about the quality. My question is, what are they going to DO with the next movie. I don’t want to say too much , but I will say that most of the characters are happily settled with their mates. (I hope that’s not too much, but then again, anyone who wanted to see the movie has probably already done so). So, what is the next movie even going to be about?!

I loved “Sex and the City” as much as anyone and I loved the movie but a sequel…personally I think it’s overkill. I hate to be the one to say this – but aren’t they getting a little OLD? Don’t get me wrong, they all look great, but I just think once you get to a certain age you have other priorities than sitting around with your girlfriends, drinking, and talking about sex.
You are missing the point, Jamie. They are ageless. Age is JUST a number..You don’t have to stop at anything once you reach a certain age. If it was four men, no one would say anything! But with women, of course they do. It really bugs me. And I’m a man (well, I am still waiting for the DNA results LOL)….I can’t wait until a sequel but have to say I was not super impressed with the first one…

I agree with the first comment…this might just jump the shark. I had serious doubts about the movie, but I loved it. I don’t doubt that SJP and Michael Patrick King won’t settle for anything less than quality, but I just hope it wont be overkill.
That being said, I will of course see it on opening day.
They might as well just bring back the TV series already. After the sequel, we’ll be hearing that it’s actually going to be a SaTC TRILOGY.
