Earlier this morning I got up early and made my way to my polling place in order to cast my vote today. Because my polling venue is only 2 blocks away, I was able to walk to my polling place this morning. To be honest, I did not anticipate finding a line there. This is the third time I voted at my LA address and it was my experience that folks meandered in to vote thruout the day, never causing much of a line at any given time. This morning, I was met with a line of folks that stretched into the parking lot and out near the street. It was a very cool thing to see. Here are a few pics that I snapped of my voting experience this morning:

As you can see, I proudly cast my ballot for Barack Obama for President and I voted NO on Prop 8. So as not to unduly influence any other voters in the room, I wore a hoodie over my SuperObama t-shirt up until I voted and then happily affixed my I Voted sticker on my shirt as I walked home. It was an amazing feeling, y’all. I was able to campaign and vote for President Bill Clinton (’92, ’96), Vice President Al Gore (’00) and Senator John Kerry (’04). I’ve voted in Michigan, Oklahoma (which is tough for a Democrat … my lurve goes out to the OKie Dems out there) and now California. I am so pleased with the level of enthusiasm that I’m seeing all over the place — not just on TV but in person. Democracy at it’s greatest.
I’m asking all Pink readers to send in photos of your I Voted stickers once you vote today. If your polling place does not have them (David’s precinct in NYC did not have them when he voted earlier), feel free to make one of your own … email your photos to pinkisthenewblog@gmail.com and I will post as many of them as I can on the site.
Make sure you know when your polling place closes. DO NOT BE FOOLED if someone tells you that voting has been extended to tomorrow. TODAY IS THE ONLY DAY TO VOTE! The first polls close in just under 4 hours, make sure you know where you need to be and what time they close AND VOTE!!! Wow, punchcard ballots? Eeeeeeeek. Did we not reform that after the “hanging chad” debacle? I mean, seriously! Scary!
BTW, why do people feel entitled to free speech on this blog? It’s really Trent’s site and he’s allowed to delete whatever he sees fit. If you don’t like it, go see the “other” bloggers. JMO
LOL .. it’s not a punchcard, it’s kinda like a scantron sheet with a special pen to ink the circles. Back in Michigan I voted on an old machine where you had to turn the lever. In Oklahoma, it was a paper ballot where you had to connect lines next to the candidates name. Honestly, I prefer all of these ways to vote over electronic/touch-screen machines … those things scare me cuz I’m not sure I trust the folks in charge of counting those machines.
Our touch screens print out a confirmation that scroll through a little window so you can see that your choices have been made correctly, so I mostly trust it.
Good thing you voted in L.A. instead of at home, Trent. They handed out flyers to voters in A2 saying that if they caught you photographing your ballot, or taking pictures in the polling place, your ballot would be confiscated and you would be evicted! I would have loved to have taken a photo of my ballot but I wanted it tou count.
Brenda – how is that even legal? They can monitor you while you are voting? That’s some bullshizz right there.
Wow! Well done to everyone who voted. I still can’t believe that some of you have to wait in line for so long. In Aus, you get annoyed if you have to wait for more that 10 minutes. I think everyone would vote a lot more if there were just more places for you guys to vote. It’d be a much fairer system if it didn’t take up your whole day.
Congrats, and I hope you all made the right decision!
Actually, the wait’s usually not very long it’s just that this election has been so monumental that everyone and their mother is showing up to vote.
I live in Vermont and we didn’t get stickers or a chance to vote no on 8! I really wanted a sticker and a chance to say no. But our lines were short. I made it through the line in 2 minutes. I want a sticker tho D;
I live in San Francisco, and there was a prop for naming the sewage plant the George W. Bush Sewage Plant. I proudly voted YES.
Im in FL, and i voted for Barack, and NO on 2. (Amendment 2 here in FL seeks to disqualify any type of legal relationship OTHER than marriage, and add a specific line in our constitution that defines marriage as “one man one woman”. This also seeks to eliminate rights and benefits for civil unions and legal partnerships.)
I hope that we can go from “YES WE CAN!” to “YES WE DID!!” :)
Congrats all of you who voted for the first time today.
Paz – LOL! I’d do the same :)
Karly – send me a photo of you and I’ll Photoshop a sticker on you :)

That’s hilarious!!! Hope that it actually happens!
Despite being an Aussie, Go Obama!
Wow, I really wish that you would leave the bias reporting to CNN
Sally — I am not reporting anything. I’m professing my pride at voting for the next President of the US :)
