I Voted!
Earlier this morning I got up early and made my way to my polling place in order to cast my vote today. Because my polling venue is only 2 blocks away, I was able to walk to my polling place this morning. To be honest, I did not anticipate finding a line there. This is the third time I voted at my LA address and it was my experience that folks meandered in to vote thruout the day, never causing much of a line at any given time. This morning, I was met with a line of folks that stretched into the parking lot and out near the street. It was a very cool thing to see. Here are a few pics that I snapped of my voting experience this morning:

As you can see, I proudly cast my ballot for Barack Obama for President and I voted NO on Prop 8. So as not to unduly influence any other voters in the room, I wore a hoodie over my SuperObama t-shirt up until I voted and then happily affixed my I Voted sticker on my shirt as I walked home. It was an amazing feeling, y’all. I was able to campaign and vote for President Bill Clinton (’92, ‘96), Vice President Al Gore (’00) and Senator John Kerry (’04). I’ve voted in Michigan, Oklahoma (which is tough for a Democrat … my lurve goes out to the OKie Dems out there) and now California. I am so pleased with the level of enthusiasm that I’m seeing all over the place — not just on TV but in person. Democracy at it’s greatest.
I’m asking all Pink readers to send in photos of your I Voted stickers once you vote today. If your polling place does not have them (David’s precinct in NYC did not have them when he voted earlier), feel free to make one of your own … email your photos to pinkisthenewblog@gmail.com and I will post as many of them as I can on the site.
Make sure you know when your polling place closes. DO NOT BE FOOLED if someone tells you that voting has been extended to tomorrow. TODAY IS THE ONLY DAY TO VOTE! The first polls close in just under 4 hours, make sure you know where you need to be and what time they close AND VOTE!!! Click HERE for polling information if you’re still unsure where to go.

Great post! For everyone outside the U.S., there’s a great email going around today directing you to: http://www.iftheworldcouldvote.com. The site is collecting internet “votes” from users in almost every country of the world and gauging how the rest of world would vote if we could vote. Results are shown in percentages for votes rec’d for each of the two candidates. As a Canadian, I’m proud to say that over 100,000 of us have “registered” our votes – so to speak- and Canada is 89% in favour of Obama – yeehaw!

The polls were just as busy here in the D this morning, but it looks like we had better weather! No rain & 70…that’s unheard of for November in Detroit!!! Waiting in line for over an hour was not so bad.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:41 am
Yea this election is crazy. I live in Georgia and did early voting on Friday. I waited 5 hours! Theres never been this kinda turn out.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:43 am
I love that you’re focusing on the election today, Trent. It’s my first presidential election and I was SO excited when I cast my ballot an hour ago. Luckily, my line wasn’t too bad. I only had to wait about 20 minutes. My friend was in a different line (different part of the alphabet) and had to wait a little over an hour, but it was worth it. I really hope everyone gets out and votes today. THIS IS IMPORTANT. Can’t wait for the election results to start coming in!!

Voted no on 8 and for Obama as well.
I grew up in Oklahoma (OKC area) and found myself in CA later in life just as you have… Oklahoma is a tough place for a non-bible thumping democrat. I tried converting various family members that aren’t even rich enough to justify voting right, but only one made the switch. Oh well. Things are looking good today!
November 4th, 2008 at 11:48 am
I voted, but did not see Prop 8 on my ballot?!!!! It was full of local election candidates, then the presidential candidates. That was it. HMmmm?????
November 4th, 2008 at 11:54 am
Congrats!
I was standing in front of you in line :)
Go-Bama!

My husband is working the polls today. He says it’s busy and has already surpassed the low numbers they got for the primary. I cannot vote as I am not a US citizen but we he allowed me to sit with him to decide what would be best for us, for our country and for our state which is Texas.
Obama!
November 4th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
I VOTED FOR THE FIRST TIME TODAY OBAMA 08 BABY MY FIRST ELECTION IS SO FUCKING EXCITING
November 4th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
I’m from Texas and its hard being a Democrat in my state too. I’m still living in Texas and I’m still representing Democrats. Obama!
November 4th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Voter high fives for everyone!!!!!congrats on voting!!!!!
November 4th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
while i have different view then you, it is very very exciting to see everyone getting out there and voting!
woohoo!!!
November 4th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
PS i did vote no on 102, AZs prop 8!!!!
November 4th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
I really don’t understand why you don’t have computerized voting in Cali???
I wish I could vote NO on Prop 8 (or its counterpart in different states). Unfortunately I live in SC and in my hometown, we are just voting today on a referendum that would allow Sunday alchol sales by the drink, in restaurants only. That’s right, folks, due to crazy blue laws, there are NO alcohol sales on Sunday. It is due to crazy “bible thumping” Christians. So I think we are a long way off from allowing gay marriage, but I have hope. I do want to point out that I am a strong Democrat and a strong Christian as well. It is possible to be a Christian and support progessive movement in our country!

The differences between our election day/results in Canada less than a month ago and what we’ve been seeing occur in the states is astounding.
America is boldly swaying towards a democratic lean, while for the first time in years Canada has had one of the highest amounts of conservative seats in Parliment. the U.S. has people coming out in droves to vote, while we recently had the smallest turn out at the polls since the 1950s.
November 4th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
Hey Ana! We are both representin’ Texas Dems! Woot!
November 4th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
Wow.. deleting comments, real professional. Looks like you’re enforcing tactics that you vent about daily on your blog. I guess only people who think and act like you are accepted at your blog, kind of reminds me of “separate but equal.” Way to show that liberals really are the most intolerant people !
November 4th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
I read this blog daily and I don’t ever recall daily “vents” about deleting comments. What are you referring to?
November 4th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Comments with too many links or that contain hate speech may get spam filtered out. If you feel a comment has been filtered out in error, please send me an email. PS: Marjorie — you are grossly misinformed about the tenets of “separate but equal”
November 4th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
Wow, punchcard ballots? Eeeeeeeek. Did we not reform that after the “hanging chad” debacle? I mean, seriously! Scary!
November 4th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
BTW, why do people feel entitled to free speech on this blog? It’s really Trent’s site and he’s allowed to delete whatever he sees fit. If you don’t like it, go see the “other” bloggers. JMO
November 4th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
LOL .. it’s not a punchcard, it’s kinda like a scantron sheet with a special pen to ink the circles. Back in Michigan I voted on an old machine where you had to turn the lever. In Oklahoma, it was a paper ballot where you had to connect lines next to the candidates name. Honestly, I prefer all of these ways to vote over electronic/touch-screen machines … those things scare me cuz I’m not sure I trust the folks in charge of counting those machines.
November 4th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
Our touch screens print out a confirmation that scroll through a little window so you can see that your choices have been made correctly, so I mostly trust it.
November 4th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Good thing you voted in L.A. instead of at home, Trent. They handed out flyers to voters in A2 saying that if they caught you photographing your ballot, or taking pictures in the polling place, your ballot would be confiscated and you would be evicted! I would have loved to have taken a photo of my ballot but I wanted it tou count.
November 4th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Brenda – how is that even legal? They can monitor you while you are voting? That’s some bullshizz right there.
November 4th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Wow! Well done to everyone who voted. I still can’t believe that some of you have to wait in line for so long. In Aus, you get annoyed if you have to wait for more that 10 minutes. I think everyone would vote a lot more if there were just more places for you guys to vote. It’d be a much fairer system if it didn’t take up your whole day.
Congrats, and I hope you all made the right decision!
November 4th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
Actually, the wait’s usually not very long it’s just that this election has been so monumental that everyone and their mother is showing up to vote.
November 4th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
I live in Vermont and we didn’t get stickers or a chance to vote no on 8! I really wanted a sticker and a chance to say no. But our lines were short. I made it through the line in 2 minutes. I want a sticker tho D;

I live in San Francisco, and there was a prop for naming the sewage plant the George W. Bush Sewage Plant. I proudly voted YES.
November 4th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Im in FL, and i voted for Barack, and NO on 2. (Amendment 2 here in FL seeks to disqualify any type of legal relationship OTHER than marriage, and add a specific line in our constitution that defines marriage as “one man one woman”. This also seeks to eliminate rights and benefits for civil unions and legal partnerships.)
I hope that we can go from “YES WE CAN!” to “YES WE DID!!” :)
Congrats all of you who voted for the first time today.
November 4th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
Paz – LOL! I’d do the same :)
Karly – send me a photo of you and I’ll Photoshop a sticker on you :)
