Dear Mr. President-Elect
Yesterday was my last full day here in Detroit and while I’m very sad to be leaving for SoCal in a couple of hours, I’m really looking forward to the warmer weather. Tracey and Zakiya came over to Sarah and Mark’s place (where I’m staying) to hang out for a little bit yesterday afternoon. I recorded a short clip of Princess Zakiya talking about President-elect Barack Obama … a topic she came up with all on her own. The little girl is growing up so fast and she is now paying attention to things she sees on TV on the news. I whipped out my little Flip Video camera and recorded this little rant:
LOL! Tracey tells me that she saw the excitement in people since Obama has been elected and she is happy to talk to anyone about her endorsement of our new president. I know it looks like propaganda but my girl is smart, she knows what’s what all on her own ;)
Sarah, Mark and I had planned on going out to the movies last night but our laziness and the bitter cold got the better of us … we ended up staying home. But, we did make time to participate in Join The Impact’s new campaign to help win same-sex marriage rights in this country. You may recall that they were the folks who organized the National Day of Protest for Marriage Equality last weekend and now they’ve started a new postcard campaign. Click HERE for all the deets but essentially, folks are being asked to send a postcard from their hometown and mail it to President-elect Obama before Thanksgiving asking him to help repeal the Defense of Marriage Act once he takes office. Here are pics of Sarah, Mark and me with our postcards that will be mailed to Obama this week:

I really love this idea and am happy to participate. I urge y’all interested in fighting for marriage equality to participate as well.
As I said, I’m off to LA in a couple of hours but I have to send out all my love to the fine city of Detroit for another great trip. I’ll be back again for Xmas … but I gots to get back to the warmth of SoCal right about now. I’m meeting up with Darion, Steph and Alek upon my arrival in LA tonight for a midnight screening of Twilight. OY! It’s gonna be a long night ;)

Trent, thank you for always posting about sweet baby (now big girl, ack) Zakiya…it’s the little ones like her (and my girl of course :D) that give me hope for our future!
Also, triple love the pics of you, Sarah and Mark with your postcards (you guys are on the website slideshow too.)
My 3 year old and I went and picked out our postcards yesterday, mailed them, and I put our picture of us holding them in her baby book.
These really are historic times!!

LOL What a sweetheart. So cute!
Ironically, the day of the election my 6 year old “voted” at his school for president. I had asked him who he voted for. He said, Ovama! I laughed because that was the day I decided to vote for him too (and we hadn’t discussed the election at all at home prior). I asked him why and he said “I like him, I think he is a very nice man. He will make a good president.” Kids say the darnedest things for sure.

My niece says his name the same way!!! She is five and thinks his name is Rocka-Bama! I LOVE IT!!! Though she went through a phase of wanting McCain to win since we were all so “mean” and wouldn’t “pick him”, she did eventually decide she liked Rocka-Bama better because he had a “funner” name!! Kids are awesome!

Trent I have been coming here for many years. I love your spin on the celebs and I love that you are an ex-teacher from Detroit since I was born and raised in Toldeo, Ohio.
I LURVE watching Zakiya grow in your pics o’ moment and hearing her talk about Barry was just a nice touch for long time fans.
Still wear my PITNB shirt with pride
Love from Southern Georgia
