Britney Spears Does ‘Rolling Stone’ Magazine
Back in February of this year, Britney Spears graced the cover of Rolling Stone magazine with a feature coverstory titled Inside An American Tragedy. When that issue of RS was published, Britney had already suffered her two mental breakdowns and had already been admitted and then released from medical/psychiatric care. This week, our dear Britney graces the cover and is featured in the newest issue of Rolling Stone under very different circumstances — she successfully made two guest appearances on CBS’s How I Met Your Mother, successfully petitioned the court to be allowed more visitation with her children (after having her custodial rights stripped from her earlier this year), was the big winner at the 2008 MTV VMAs, recorded a new album and a new #1 song and is about to release that album and a new world tour … the title of this newest RS feature coverstory is Yes, She Can. Here is the new cover of Rolling Stone magazine with Britney on the cover and a report on the coverstory:

Nearly a year after a breakdown, Britney Spears says she feels as if she has matured. To be exact, “I feel like an old person now,” she says in Rolling Stone’s next issue, out Friday. “I do! I go to bed at, like, 9:30 every night, and I don’t go out or anything.” Spears turns 27 on Dec. 2, the same day her album, Circus, hits stores. “This is going to be the album that cements her legend status,” says her manager, Larry Rudolph. Indeed, the pop star has come a long way from her two trips to hospital psychiatric wards this year, the magazine says. After the last trip, in early February, her father, Jamie, filed for legal conservatorship so that he and attorney Andrew Wallet would oversee her finances and personal affairs. Interviewing the star is a “rigorously micromanaged process,” according to Rolling Stone. “We were never left alone together, and my questions had to be submitted ahead of time for approval,” reporter Jenny Eliscu writes. Rudolph says, “Her job is to be Britney Spears, and unfortunately, that job bleeds into her personal life and creates this odd situation where she needs to have security people around her all the time.” That goes for dates, too. Recently, Spears was accompanied by her assistant, Brett, and Rudolph’s colleague, Adam Leber. “Right when we got there, we just knew it was just bad,” Spears says. “He looked like an older version of Harry Potter, but skinnier. … So I had to get dessert first. And the other date I had, the guy was really, really tall and a lot older. … We’re trying to ask him questions, like, ‘OK, you’re into martial arts, so what kind of martial arts are you into?’ And he was like, ‘Oh, all kinds.’ … But you know how silly we are, so we were just cracking up.” She turns serious on the topic of her children. Despite losing custody of her sons, Preston, 3, and Jayden, 2, to her ex-husband Kevin Federline, Spears has been able to see them more often, thanks in part to the conservatorship. “Every time they come to visit me, I think about how they’re such special people,” she says. She is critical of her ex and says the children “are starting to learn words like ’stupid,’ and Preston says the f-word now sometimes. He doesn’t get it from us. He must get it from his daddy. I say it, but not around my kids.”
Altho the interviewer was closely monitored while talking with Britney, it sounds like this article will offer much info that might not be included in her new documentary Britney Spears: For The Record (debuting on MTV this Sunday night). It feels like Brit Brit is airing all of her dirty laundry in an effort to show the world that she is serious about making a comeback by offering us (almost) full disclosure. It’s a bold step, it absolutely sounds like an idea that svengali manager Larry Rudolph came up with. The man is a genius, he made her a star in the first place, he can make her a star again.
This morning, The Today Show interviewed this RS interviewer about this issue of Rolling Stone and offered a preview of the magazine photoshoot as well. Here are a few screencaps of Britney’s Rolling Stone photoshoot:

After the jump, check out all of the photos that will be included in this new issue of Rolling Stone magazine and watch the Today Show feature in full …

The photos are pretty amazing, she looks great. I love the mask one … it’s so apropos, I think. Here is the full Today Show video feature:
Again, sounds like a great piece in Rolling Stone — I can’t wait to pick up my copy. We are now one week away from the release of Circus. Those of you interested can stream the album in full HERE on Pink is the new Blog. Oh and those of you outside the US can watch the Today Show video HERE should the above embed vid not work in your country.

My gosh….that cover picture is absolutely gorgeous. The others are nice too, but I’m glad the cover is the one it is. She looks so natural and stunning.
Go Britney :)
November 25th, 2008 at 8:23 am
Tussled hair, jeans and a plain t-shirt one would wear on a weekend while just hanging around the house = sexy. The only other photo that could top that is her pantless, but wearing a hockey jersey.
November 25th, 2008 at 8:24 am
cute, and love love love the album, go britney!
November 25th, 2008 at 8:26 am
I am glad she is headed on the right track again, but I don’t think she should be talking bad about the father of her children. When she had her “meltdown” he was the one who took on the responsibility of raising them. She does look pretty amazing though!
November 25th, 2008 at 8:28 am
Kevin did not take any responsibilities. The nannys that were paid for by Britney took care of their children.
Britney looks AMAZING and beautiful and I am so proud of her.
November 25th, 2008 at 8:34 am
*whistle* Whoa….Brit is lookin’ fierce! That cover is hawt!
November 25th, 2008 at 8:35 am
Good for her! She looks fantastic! I hope this up swing is reflected in all areas of her life. I can’t imagine living the way she does – with all the scrutiny all the time. She certainly has been blessed in her life, but at a cost. Hang in there, girl! We’re rooting for you!
November 25th, 2008 at 8:36 am
I got to agree with Lori concerning Kevin. I understand the want/need for full disclosure, a sudden internet fad, but dissing anyone right now, especially Kevin since he didn’t while she was a mess, is not a really good move.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:04 am
She looks happy and cute with her Farrah F hair, but she’s still not the Queen of Pop, and never will be. She can’t sing well, and she doesn’t work hard enough. Happy to see her newfound glory but I wish she’d go away. But Beyonce is a lot more annoying, A LOT MORE. All agree?
November 25th, 2008 at 9:27 am
Agreed about Beyonce being extremely annoying – she always appears to be trying too hard, while Britney (when on top of her game) appears effortless in her performances. In terms of being the ‘queen of pop,’ she doesn’t need to sing well. Pop singers rarely sing well. Madonna? Rihanna? They are all fierce, but I wouldn’t say their strengths lie in volcal performance.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:41 am
what’s wrong with her belly button?
November 25th, 2008 at 9:44 am
There’s nothing wrong with it. She just has it pierced. Oh, and a pop singer who can sing well: Kelly Clarkson! That girl can flat out blow…
November 25th, 2008 at 9:48 am
There you go again JarEdina Monsoon. Does the hate just flow out of you or does it require gentle pushing?
November 25th, 2008 at 10:00 am
Nothings wrong with her belly button. it was pireced and she had 2 kids.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:00 am
im sorry, but she shouldnt have said anything about kevin. he didnt say anything when she had her meltdown when he could have ripped her apart. “stupid” could have been picked up at school. and for the F word…who knows if she was dropping that bomb when she was out of it.
good for her that shes getttin back on track & i love that cover picture. the other pictures arent anything special but that cover has been the best pic to date.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:03 am
I don’t like the fact that she is dissing Kevin. When all of this went down he stayed home every single day with those children and got them on a routine. Yes it is unfortunate that they learned bad words, but that conversation would be better had privately with K-Fed.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:18 am
It’s not hate whatsoever. It’s honesty, Bleeding Ears. I’m sorry you can’t handle the hurtful truth. I don’t think Trent lets us post comments so we can’t speak our mind, now does he?
November 25th, 2008 at 10:21 am
Agree, Jo. But Madonna is the Queen of Pop. Always will be. Can she sing superbly? No, of course not. But her pop songs will be remembered years down the road. Like A Virgin and Vogue, Lucky Star, etc…will anyone really remember anything by Brit Brit other than Hit Me or Toxic?? I really doubt it. Hey Bleeding Ears, look I am being hateful!! WAAAHHHHHH….
November 25th, 2008 at 10:40 am
LOL Jardina, you’re lame, Britney is a legend, if no one would remember her, or cared about her, the paparazzi’s wouldnt stalk her like they do, and this was BEFORE all her drama started. Britney songs are known all across the globe and she’s a big star, Britney can sing, but she’s more of a entertainer than a singer, which is why she lip syncs, cause no one really wants to hear you breathing trying to sing while dancing really fast to a song. Id rather pay money to see someone dance and perform (yet sing live during slow songs) than to hear them dance and breathe all heavy.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:43 am
Britney’s a legend? OMG you are on serious pills of delusion. She can’t sing whatsoever. She sounds like a mouse on helium. The parapazzi don’t stalk her because she’s a legend, sweetie. They stalk her because they know what a mess she is. And she’s great fun to catch in that mess. Yes, she is more of an entertainer but she’s probably the most overrated pop star that has ever lived, besides J Lo. Megan, I’m guessing that you are no older than 21? 23?
November 25th, 2008 at 11:02 am
love brit but i don’t get the pulling up of the shirt other than to show off the trim belly. in which case, good for her. better than the pics over the summer.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:19 am
Does anyone else have a link to her work out/diet regimen? She looks fantastic!
November 25th, 2008 at 11:33 am
I’m glad she can get back on the cover of Rolling Stone for a positive piece, in the same year that they ran her on another cover for a fairly sad story.
But I have to say I’m kinda grossed-out at the moment by noticing the magazine’s penchant for co-opting the work of others to create melodramatic headlines for their covers which the editors seem to feel will represent their story on Britney. IE: “An American Tragedy” and “Yes She Can”.
I dunno know, it just bugs me.
I realize they are crafting catchy, relatable phrasing for their cover, but it really does bug me for some reason right now. It’s now wonder she cracked up and continues to feel her life is like a jail sentence … she has outside entities attaching such weighted ideals to her.
November 25th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
avi, like megan said, the papparazzi was following her well before she had a breakdown. how old are you? 35, 40?
November 25th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
and i love the cover pic!!
November 25th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
I don’t know what y’all are smokin but that cover pic is anything but gorgeous! It looks like she took it in the bathroom of her mobile home wearing her neighbors clothes! I mean really, her hair is not done and her shirt is way to big and just pulled up, they could have at least cut it or something! Taking crazy pills… the lot of you.
November 25th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
I’m no fan of Kevin Federline but I don’t think Britney is in any position to give parenting advice. As a young mom myself I can honestly say I’d be more concerned about getting custody of my kids back and less concerned with making/promoting my new album. I feel so badfor those boys.
November 25th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
She does look pretty good, but what the hell was her stylist thinking? That bare midriff look is SO over. I really think it makes her look a little tacky. She’s not a little girl anymore…she’s a grown woman with kids. Time to put the belly away.
November 25th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
Avi, noticed i said BEFORE her drama they followed her around ALOT. theirs pictures to prove it. If she’s “overrated” it’s because the public made her that way. Britney is a legend, plain and simple and im 27.
November 25th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
I agree the front cover is not “FRESH” and I think the other shots, especially the black/white side profile one is MUCH better
November 25th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
This melodramatic hype over Britney’s comeback is beyond annoying. The cover photo seems to say “Look, y’all! I have a flat stomach! I’m back!”
Britney’s music is mostly forgettable, save for a few songs. What has gotten her this far is the media, scandal, rumors, paparazzi — all of that fluff. It’s in MTV and Rolling Stone’s best interests to help sell her as New and Improved — she brings in revenue.
And to Megan: There have been many pop stars who dance and sing live at the same time perfectly well. Britney lipsynchs b/c has never remotely shown any vocal skills.
November 25th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
GORGEOUS!!!!
November 25th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
she looks gorgeous! simply put. she is just showing us britney, without the glitz, the person she has become after all the shit she put herself thru, like she said, “she’s a smart girl” and she just fucked up, and now she is showing us that there is a life after almost ending hers. who cares if she is trashing kevin. he was a bad father to his children when he was married to brit (and where are his kids with shar???) he took advantage of her “dark time”, and painted him as the wondeful father to make herself appear worse, all he wanted, and wants is child support, if he wanted his kids so badly, he would want more from his kids with shar! so, there!!! they are divorced, bad blood, who gives a crap. all i care is that britney is back… and “ready for her close-up”!!!!
November 25th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
I think it’s a good sign that she is speaking out about her kids learning bad words from Kevin’s side. Some people here seem to have been fooled into thinking Kevin is some kind of a saint. I’m sure Britney is holding back alot of detail about what was going on in her house and things that Kevin did while she was going through her pregnancies. We have not heard the worst of it. I hope she writes a book.
November 25th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
I’m really glad that Larry is back on her life, we all know he knows how to manage her, but I to say: “he made her a star in the first place, he can make her a star again” is just stupid, she never stopped being a star, so she just needed good management to be on top again. Come on, it is just as stupid as people saying that her career was over, the problem was that she wasn’t putting any effort into it, but now that she is, look at it!! people just have to realize that she is “Britney Spears” a label bigger than the media, and bigger than the U.S., because people here in the U.S. don’t realize that only very few stars make it bigtime overseas, and she’s one of them. Bottomline is, no matter what she does, we’re gonna b here waiting for new material from her, wheather it’s number one or not, that’s just marketing, we know we want her (closeted or not)…
November 25th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
she´s an icon, she´s part of our modern pop culture, period.
November 25th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
joanne – its not a good sign…thats something between the parents not the world & the parents. they can pick those words up anywhere these days. and when she was going through her moment…she could have been saying it then? who knows? to go and just blame him that was uncalled for

Rolling Stone is fast becoming just another People magazine clone. Head underground, people. That’s where real music and art is flourishing. You can probably find plenty of it in your own town.
November 29th, 2008 at 7:46 am
LOVE. THEM!
November 30th, 2008 at 8:20 am
WOW! She must have forgotten the time she called the paparazzi a Fat F2ck in front of her kids. What a loser to diss Kevin like that when he saved those poor boys from her crazy arse. She hasn’t changed and is clearly only “better” on the outside otherwise she wouldn’t be playing the BLAME GAME.
